Just a quick heads up on the quality of the Espressotoria machine - we got one at work that would leak coffee grinds (using the official Espressotoria capsules) and produce pretty ordinary coffee (this coming from an instant coffee drinker…)
Then they were giving these away for free when you bought more capsules so we got 2 machines - both now broken and sitting in the kitchen. That was a year or two ago so who knows they might have fixed their quality…
Agreed, it's a pretty low-end machine. But FWIW, I've grown to quite like mine. I've found:
. I too was getting coffee grounds in my cup - this was usually accompanied to a much louder 'pop' than usual as the coffee started flowing. Checking the used pod, I would find the bottom of the pod split open (hence the pop). I find that if I give the pods a bit of a shake before putting them in the machine, this doesn't happen nearly as much.
. Often the machine would leak all over the bench while making a cup - I believe this is related to the pods not siting quite right inside the machine, and the machine then not sealing all the way around the pod. Generally it happens when I drop / push the pods in with a little too much force - just drop them in nice and gently, the machine seals well and I get no leaks.
Only buy the pods when they're 50% off, I'm finding this is about every 4 weeks or so. Works out to approx 30c/cup. Mountain Grown is probably my favourite.
