400

Now………Before
$19 100MB……..0MB
$29 200MB……..50MB
$39 200MB……..150MB
$49 1.5GB……..500MB
$59 2.0GB……..??
$79 2.0GB……..1GB

now there is data even on the $19 cap plus the $69 cap is a $59 cap for a limited time

similar on vodafone however once you exceed your download limit is $5/MB on voda and 50c/MB on three

It’s applicable to everyone. Not just for new customers but for everyone.
The contract will not restart.
The $59 cap is actually the $69 cap with 10 dollar credit given to you.
The new rate plan will only apply from the next billing cycle.
Call rates and conditions are same. Just data difference.

  • what about if you are on one of the previous caps? any way to "upgrade" ? they're offering 4x more data than before!

    • +1

Why not call and ask? Don't think he's a 3 rep.

      • +1

lol. but i do know that last time when they went form $150 to $180 on the $29 cap i couldnt change it online. but if you give them a call they are more than happy to do it for you. not before they inform you that you cant go back to the old cap.

  • +1

same on vodafone, it seems, although the rate per MB on vodafone is higher when you exceed it ($5/MB)

    • thanks ill update the post

  • Sorry for newbie question, what does data actually mean? Can we connect to internet on our phone with that? I have $29 and can't connect to internet (used to be able to do so, but they seems to remove it ever since they merged with Vodafone a few months back). The only thing I can do is read their news (as I took News & Weather one for my cap). It's the same for my $29 cap (about 18 months old) or my wife's one (only 2 months old).

    • what happens if you point ur phone browser to www.google.com?

      • Connection error (after waiting for a while). It used to work. The only thing I want to use is actually google maps app (I use old Nokia E61), and same thing (always have connection error) since a few months back. So, do you reckon I should be able to use that 50MB to connect to google?

        • Yes, you can

        • You probably need to apply the connection settings.

          Have a look at step 3 http://www.nokia.com.au/get-support-and-software/learn-how/h…

          • @anthony: Indeed. By default 3 devices are setup to use the WAP APN I believe, and that is in a walled garden (i.e. only able to access their sites)

        • like ozhunter said. yes u can. as obama said yes we can. :p

you probably should check ur settings. also can u access three.net.au? if you cant then its definitely the settings.

  • OP: Put this is in the description above or you'll get bombarded with the same questions:

I have approx 4 months left on my 24mth contract. If I want to go on these new plans, it looks like i have to commit to a new 24mth contract?

      • -2

I'll be very cautious and wait for another 4 months, as I'm on similar case with you. Though they say it should not be the case, but from my experience, there's 101 reasons that it might go wrong, and will waste ur time to try to get it right. Also, beware that the new caps is more expensive in voice call than the old one (for my plan, the call is 80c/min, rather than 90c/min on the similar new plan - probably that's why they keep increasing the total dollar value, but the amount of call you can make is probably just the same thing).

        • Man, I can't believe it. I just said it, your contract will not restart. Call 3 and ask them. They will not say, 'SHOULD NOT' they'll say, 'WILL NOT' restart.

    • thanks mate. updated.

    for existing customers:
its not an automatic change is it? we have to call to get it changed?

  • It's 50c/mb when u exceed your quota on Vodafone and 3.

I think they scrapped that $5/mb out of the cap, which only applied to the $19 cap.

    • When I checked a few minutes ago it still says $5/MB for the $29 cap. One "oopsie" and you're out of pocket by a lot.

      • Weird. In their terms and conditions it says 50 cents/MB, but for the "included services" it says $5/MB. I guess the only difference is that social networking stuff Three throws in.

        • Can you post the link and tell me where it says the $5/mb.

          • @ozhunter: Just go to the list of phones, click on a phone (e.g. http://store.vodafone.com.au/handset-nokia-n97-mini.aspx), and under the listed caps select "terms and conditions", which says 50cents/MB. Under "View Cap Details" it says $5MB, though.

            • @Make it so: Still don't see it lol, Under "View cap details" it says "Mobile Internet exceeded included data allowance will be billed at 50c per MB (in per KB increments, minmum session of 12KB)" which is the same as terms and condiitions.

  • what about the iphone AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    • What about it? The new data increase applies to it as well.

      • iphone cap plans hav increased data too
        just checked

        • so $49 vodafone iphone 4 plans purchased earlier should get 1.5gb + the bonus 1gb = 2.5gb a month?

  • just thought of something though
would this imply that if i'm on the 49 cap
i will now be getting 2.5gb of data?

when getting the new iphone4, they've given me 1gb bonus data for 24 months
so with adding the 1.5gb of data from the cap

that makes it 2.5 gb right?

  • Rang 3 re my $49 iphone cap.
New cap increases data from 250Mb to 1.5Gb. Now includes 3 to Vodafone in the 300 mins free calls.
HOWEVER. Call rates have increased from 40c per 30sec to 90c a minute.

Cant change over immediately - have to wait till the end of your billing cycle.

    • same here, just got off the phone and was told the same things. The included data pack makes up for the rate rise. Won't affect light users much.

  • mods should rename this to "vodafone/three caps with more data".

I just rang vodafone and got my data upgraded to 2GB, which is awesome because i've been hitting the 1GB limit - dam streaming radio :-)

    • done :)

    • well some lucky three customers got to take advantage of the half price double broadband offer which i did. 2gb for $10. not sure if voda had it too.

      • Are you sure that vodafone is $5/mb if you exceed your data limit? It's not on the website.

  • so just confirming…i signed up to a plan like..3 months ago.
will this change be automatic for me on my next billing cycle?

    • No, its not automatic. You have to ring them

    • no. u have to call up and ask to be moved to the new plan. and only then will it be effective from the start of ur new billing cycle

      • One reason for this is that call costs are higher. But if, like me, you were using up all of your data but hardly any of your calls, then its well worth changing.

      • I think if you are changing to the cap plan of the same rate, its effective within the current billing cycle.

I was only $69 plan, then changed to the $59 plan ($69 plan with $10 credit) and was told that it would be effective within 4hrs.

  • +1

I just called the rate plan change dept and moved over to the new $69 cap plan. I got the following:

    • even though my billing cycle started today, my new cap change will apply within the next 4hrs.
    • $10 credit off
    • went from 0gig data to 2gig data
    • plus my previous loyalty credit of $20 still applies :)

Only downside is I went from 35c/30secs (70c/min) to 90c/min, which is of no issue to me since I hardly go over or close to my call caps. Really happy that I now get 2gigs of data plus I will only get charged $39/month.

Thanks for the heads up xavierdylan!

    • $39 a month!?

      Niiiiice.

How long did it take you to get to loyalty status?

      • I actually have a dispute with them and the $20 credit was just to say sorry :)
It just shows up on my invoice as loyalty credit

  • You can also get the NRMA 10% off deal with this plan ($59pm), and 3 months free (4 5 6 month credited)

    https://www.mynrma.com.au/cps/rde/xchg/mynrma/hs.xsl/m4m_vod…

so 16mb Iphone4 free on the plan, with 24 month contract effectively around $46 a month

    • do they verify you are with NRMA? Or could you join NRMA 'temporarily' to take up this offer?

      • yes they verified it

    • i was told it was the first three months free.

Also, 16mb iphones are all the rage.

  • Edit: hmm on 35th look it seems like it was talking about blackberry related stuff, those terms are just badly written.

Not sure i like this in their terms and conditions though.

    # Pack gives you unlimited BlackBerry® data (BlackBerry® Internet Service (BIS) version only – excludes Blackberry® Enterprise Solution (BES) version) which includes BlackBerry® Email and Internet browsing, Facebook® and other applications, when accessed via the BlackBerry® APN. 3’s Fair Use Policy applies.

Additional charges apply for some services such as video streaming (eg YouTube) and single file downloads over 3 MB. Included voice value cannot be used for data.

Unless its always been like that, i never tethered with 3 so i cant say. It seems badly written at best if not quite dodgy.

  • Just called 3 to change to new plan but they said no need to call. It will change automatically.

Note: i was already on their new plan giving 500mb of usage and 90c/min.

  • Does the 10% off with NRMA only apply with Vodafone or does this now apply with 3 as well?

    • nrma site only says vodafone, so you may need to call them

      • voda only currently

  • Thanks for the heads up! Just changed to the new plans.

Thumbs down for three, they should've done this automatically for existing customers.

    • call costs are higher so it won't benefit all

      • higher than which plan. tho old plan also had the same rates unless ur on a plan pre March 2010

  • SWEEET got 200mb data from end of september

  • Anyone know if this works in old plan with 35c/30secs? i got it from old iphone 3gs deal..

    • Nope it doesnt, and once you upgrade you can't change back.

      • NO, I mean would I be able to update with this new plan?? I don't care about call rate going up but I also don't want to make a new contract. Have 1 yr left

        • +1

Why couldn't you, I am assume all old plans can upgrade and as the OP said in the description, the contract will not restart.

  • -2

I changed my plan over and they charged me $700 even though they told me it was at no cost at all. On top of that they charged me for data roaming while I was on my home wifi. Three has really bad reception and I have been calling them every month for goodwill credit =(

    • I'm not sure which mobile you're using but I know Android mobiles can completely disable mobile roaming. I'm sure there's a setting somewhere in your handset. Or turn off 3G altogether if you're roaming. Especially if you are already using the WiFi at home.

      • Yes I have to turn off both my cellular data and data roaming on my iphone, otherwise it drops onto data roaming without my knowledge (tried and tested it out on different dates, keeping records of data usages etc) even though the symbol is still on 3g. From what I know, it drops onto Telstra's 3g network and you are charged for "national roaming". You cannot avoid "national roaming" unless you completely turn off your iphone or you jailbreak it, voiding your warranty. Makes my data pack useless as Three's 3g network is patchy and heavy relies on Telstra

        • Jailbreaking your iPhone voids your warranty? Um. You can just restore it using iTunes and the Apple store "geniuses" won't know. Besides, I don't get how you're using WiFi and getting charged for data usage? That's just not possible. iPhone only uses one type of connection - either WiFi or 3G. It cannot use both simultaneously. So 3 charging you for data usage when you're on a WiFi network makes no sense whatsoever.

It's weird that the phone doesn't show that you're roaming. I've never seen any phone do that. Even Symbian phones show you a different icon (H, 3G, R) when you're roaming. Call 3 and tell them. But your story doesn't make sense. Getting charged for Data Usage when you're on a WiFi network makes no sense.

  • ok, thanks for the details but i'm confused.

about a year ago i signed on to the $69/m plan on voda with 10% off as i'm a NRMA member.

so if i ring, what happens:

    a) I change to the $59 cap and get a further 10% off, resulting in a monthly fee of $53.1

    OR

    b) I will not get the 10% off the monthly fee, so i will have to pay $59/m, which is of course better than the $62.1 i'm paying now.

so it is a win-win, but i just want to confirm.

also for anyone that asks, i did call but apparently they are very busy so they just hung up on me.

    • +1

If you contracted on the $69 cap you will have to pay a fee just to downgrade your plan. In most cases you would be better off staying on your existing plan until your contract is over.

    • Dont know about change over, but with the $59 plan I got $53.10 in my welcome email as the amount I will pay per month with NRMA discount

  • Anyone have number for rate change dep for 3? Thanks

  • Upgraded my $49 cap plan 250mb to 1.5gb. Just got to call

  • +1

if your contract expired. signing up again there will be another 24 months so only do it while you are still on contract.

    • thats not true. u dont have to sign up. u just have to switch plans. and no u wont be put on another 24 month contract

      • I confirmed with a rate plan staff on 3. If your contract expired, signing up on the new cap means another 24 months.

If you switch your rate plan while you are on contract, it will not extend.

        that's how it works.

        • I suggest you jump into sim only plan… no contract and the benefits are more calls too, and double the data….

          $20 = $150 + 100MB (before 50MB)
          $35 = $350 + 500MB (before 250MB)
$55 = $550 + 1GB (before 500MB) + unlimited SMS + MMS (if you sign up with vodafone, you get unlimited GLOBAL SMS+MMS)

          • @zack2020: I see that's not bad at all! Cheers!

However I already had the Internet Value Pack for $4 on 500MB and if I cancel that within the 12 months I need to pay $35. I'm on the old $29 cap meaning 29+4=33 all up…also the flagfall and per min charge is lower

The SIM only plan is $20 but not enough calls with higher charges and $35 SIM only plan is more expensive than what i pay lol

    • Why don't you sign up for a new 24month contract with this deal and the bonus is you get a new phone….

      • +1

problem is not too many good phones with 3

        • go to Vodafone then…

          • +1

@BlitzR: lol. they r not that much better.
            desire—-telstra
            Samsung galaxy— optus.

            • @dy4me: Second that. 3's selection of phones is horrible. Especially Android phones. Vodafone had Nexus One but sold out. The stupid exclusivity crap with Desire on Telstra ia annoying. Galaxy S should be on all networks. Hope by the end of the year, we have some of the rumoured Android phones on the 4 major networks - HTC Vision, Motorola Droid Pro, HTC Desire HD (Ace) or even the G2.

              • @ragflan: There are no Android phones or good handhelds that I like on 3. I was thinking of going to Voda but they only got HTC Legend same price as Desire and Galaxy S on Telstra and Optus. Not good at all.

  • just called voda to change my cap to the new cap with bigger data allowances. now I got 3GB instead of only 1.5GB and I can use it straight away and I'm on 49$ cap.

  • I'm on the old 49 plan which I signed up last June… I called customer care today to change my rate plan he said I have to sign new contract for 24. I still have contract till next year June. From what I been reading, I could change it without new contract??

    • Yes correct, if you are still under contract its fine.
