      seems pretty useless to me

      • +2

Well, it's good for the size and price.

But I like this one more.

I can't comment on the ryobi but the way he's splitting is completely wrong. He's splitting hard wood and trying to split directly against the growth rings. He should be splitting parallel to the rings. Even my old 9T 6HP hydraulic splitter would struggle on some Aussie hardwoods. Best to split that log would have been to split four D shapes pieces around the circle then you'd be left with a square centre piece.

Good ol Aldi keeping Bunnings in check

  • +2

This is to match the Aldi deal?

The Aldi one has 6.5 tonne and 5 yr warranty

    • Sorry looked but can't find a reference to Aldi having one of these… was this in the past?

      • I believe it is Saturday week, as we've had the pamphlet delivered, but gone now.

Thanks OP, just in time for mothers day.

    • yep.

we have combustion heater, and I will do 10-15 minutes of splitting at a time so it's not a big chore. more if I want the work out.

      splitter was about $30…

      • good luck splitting knotted logs though. I cut about 6T with a Fiskars X27, but I have another tonne of bastard logs that won't split by hand :(

        • been lucky so far. then again I'd estimate we only burn max 2T/year.

          mainly olive & gum trees

if I find a bit that's too hard to split and it won't fit in the door of the heater it will end up as campfire/bonfire fuel

        • I love my Fishers x25. I don't know why I bothered with the cheaper axes and splitters before it. Anything with a knot, or too dry, I use the Victa 80V chainsaw I got on the previous deal.

Sometimes I even use a 2lb splitter and sledge hammer as well with a real thick log.

If I need to split the hardwood, will it be a lot more difficult in the morning?

  • Or you could just use horse power:
