  • super cheap. I don't know whats going on with Avanti, but there are a lot of aggressive discounts at the moment.
    possibly being wound up?

    • when i asked them why they were so cheap they said they were clearing out "old stock", 2016 doesnt seem too old

      • Old comment I know, but for reference the next year's bikes come out pretty early. For example, the bike store recently told my mum that some Giant 2018 models would be in around the end of June. 2017 models have been out for maybe 10 months already, so 2016 models are definitely older stock.

      Moving to disc brakes

      • Yep ….Lots are moving to disc brakes …. Wouldn't buy a caliper brake bike anymore ……

All of the Bike Brands will be closing out last years models right now, these guys are just being a little more obvious. Trek recently had some kind of 'Trek fest' and I just received the email from 'Total Rush' this afternoon about their once a year sale (I normally get one of these 3-4 times a year). The ravce season has started in Europe with the 1 day classics, leading into the Grand Tours. All the pros on the TV are riding the latest bikes that will almost certainly be taking centre stage in the bikeshops. Just like when a new model car comes out, the outgoing models (even if they are just a new paintjob of difference) will be on run-out pricing.

sweet.. might buy a few after lunch….

  • For that price I'd expected to see it come with Di2s, rather than a mish-mash of components.

    • +3

      $2000 for Di2s? That's a bit stretching.

      • Shimano Ultegra 6870 Di2 11 Speed Groupset is $1300 retail, so not an unreasonable expectation in a allegedly $4000 bike!

        http://www.wiggle.com.au/shimano-ultegra-6870-di2-11-speed-g…

        • If you are a true OzB you wont pay too much attention to the RRP$4000 and see only $2000 if is worth for a bike with all these specs.

        • @wtfnodeal:
Of course. I was just responding to the above. Not sure which "that price" ryanhunt was referring to.

Personally, I cannot see much difference between this and the recent carbon bike at <$1k.
And I actually prefer the old-style Sora shifters, not being a racer. :)

Is this bike aimed at people doing real competition riding? Or more wannabes?

        • @manic: Wierd mix of parts pushes up the price. Dura Ace bits would add a fair whack to the price. Not sure what Wannabes means. I dont think this is aimed at racers but with a swap to some better wheels I am sure this would be OK for racing. I dont race but I will be knocking out a few hundred Kms in the Dandenongs over easter with my crew of fellow tragics. It wont be a race but we will all be obsessed with our Strava times when we get back. Having a lighter bike will make the several thousand metres of climbing much easier. We are more MAMILs than Wannabes but i can appreciate the value of better and lighter parts.

Got the SL in the last deal for $999 in the last deal. Ray's were super helpful. Bike is shmick. Upvoted

    • Right.
I was a little confused for a moment there.

I don't buy anything unless it's half price, so this may qualify.

  • Both the SL2 and DR2 are amazing value given the specs

  • The chain and the cassette are meh, other than that this looks a bargain. And who races with the supplied wheels? Though I'm glad that they specify that "Hubs Included in wheelset: and "Spokes Included in wheelset"

  • +1

    Cassette Shimano 105 5800 12-25T 11-Speed :)

You can get a ultegra < $70 online

  • No pedals? How does one propel this bicycle along?

    • +21

you put it on your roofrack, drive to your favourite coffee shop on Beach Rd then take it off the car and lean it on the fencing outside the shop whilst you sit nearby in a cycling jersey and cap talking about Paris Roubaix with your mates over a Soy Macchiatto! No pedals needed.

      • You mean blah, not blah

        • Absolutely!

    • Lower the seat and kick it until you learn to balance. Its better than using training wheels.

  • weight?

    • Typical 7-8kg I guess

      • thanks for the info
