  • Will the GEAR VR be the new version with the controller? Or is it the 2015 stock?

    • New version with controller.

  • So tempted to bite the bullet. Any recommendations for mobile phone insurance? I just don't trust myself lol.

      I heard you're affiliated to a competitor :)

      • -5

hi you tightarse, no i'm not a competitor i'm just stating my own experience with woollies.

        • +12

i'm just stating my own experience with woollies

No you're not. You said you "heard" they are bad.

    • You're negging the deal because you "heard" there is "no reception what so ever". Yeah, that Telstra network really sucks. Here, have a down vote for inappropriate use of a neg vote.

  • Hey Rod S,

I just signed up for this deal for S8+ and got my confirmation e-mail, but didn't realise that in order to get the $101 cash back, I was meant to signed up with cash rewards first.

I haven't seen any instructions about this so if there are some somewhere, they must be very well hidden.

What can you do to help me out here to get that $101 cashback?

    Thanks.

    • No really a question for Rod, as they have nothing to do with Cash Rewards. Maybe try and get a hold of Tight Arse? I don't know if he'll be able to help though.

      • Thanks mate.

    • Hi - that is a CashRewards-run offer which is why there's nothing on our website about it.
      I'll PM you
      Cheers
      Rod

      • Ok, thanks Rod. Waiting for your PM. Appreciate your help.

        • I signed up via Cashrewards link. I was never able to get the order complete until I rang and they did it manually. Doing so has cost me a $101. I was not able to include my Credit card details and ringing in the first instance was pointless. The lady I got just seemed to shrug her shoulders,(whilst eating something by the sounds) and said no idea, just try again in 30 mins.

I eventually rang again after more fruitless trying and got hold of someone that processed my order manually but I lost the Cash Rewards offer in the process.

I chatted with someone from Woolies on their webchat who said he would speak with supervisor and log back in to webchat in 45mins.. .I did this and waited half an hour for someone to answer who said the person had left the office. The new guy I spoke with said the answer in getting the cash rewards was to cancel and try again but they said, no guarantee it would be cancelled today allowing you time to reorder at the special price.

I was soooo tempted to cancel and walk away. The guy that processed the order manually was very helpful, understanding and deserved a pay rise. The webchat guy that put me off and went home deserves the sack.

        • @Ruprect:

Yeah i had to accept that I'm not going to get the $101 at the end as well. The WW customer support couldn't do anything and cancelling my order would have been pointless since it would take 24-48 for the cancellation to go through and during that time i can't put another order through and by then the cashback reward promotion would finish anyway.

Anyway, my fault in the end i guess for not doing a proper research on how to exactly do it. TA was very helpful even though there was not much he could do.

        • @wookie: Cashrewards promotion got extended to April 9.

But the woolies $15 discount expired April 4.

I'm not sure why you guys ran into problems signing up via CR.

I did it and it went through without a hitch. Paid via AMEX Essential if that matters.

  • My credit check was denied by woolies? I don't understand. I've never had a loan or credit card in my life, just a debit card and substantial savings. Is it because I don't have a credit card? So frustrating… =/

    • +1

Ever had a loan, name on any utility bills, or previous post-paid phone account etc.? If not, I don't think you would have a credit rating.

      • I was on a contract phone plan with vodafone for 2 years with no issues, and I pay for foxtel and internode with debit cards.

    • not having a credit history could lead to failing a credit check
i personally know of a few people that constantly fail credit checks because of exactly that

I'd suggest applying for a credit card with no fees. even if you don't use it or have little use, it will help with your credit history

    • same thing happened to me - AMEX used VEDA as well and said my account was fine but Woolies website said otherwise. Calling VEDA didnt help as they wanted to charge a fee to provide me with a credit report… worst ever.

  • How can I get the CASH REWARD? I filled in my card number in the order form and got the comfiration email, but now I am checking my Woolworths Rewards account, there are no credit relating to this order…Any one can answer me? Thanks!

    • The cashrewards is separate and not credited to you by Woolworths. Cashrewards will credit you separately.

      • Thanks for your reply, so I dont need to do anything but just wait for the cashrewards credit to me?

        • Yes. But that will take a while, probably months.

Just ensure you get the confirmation email from cashrewards.

  • -2

Why is this deal rated so high? yeah its good value but 4GB for the next 24 months is something you are probably going to regret.

    • You just answered your own question.

      • Not sure what you mean? yes you get the phone cheap on the plan but being locked in a plan for 24months on 4gb I think you will regret it. As other people said, its quite expensive to add on data once you are locked in.

        • +4

You asked why it's getting upvoted, and then said its good value. So you answered your own question. It's good value.

Different people have different usages, which is why telco's offer different tier plans. Believe it or not, but 4GB is more than adequate for some people, and those are the type of people that are taking up this plan.

4GB isn't enough for who? You? Probably lots of people, and they're the one's that won't be signing up to a contract with 4GB data per month.

        • -1

          @aja12:

Yes I get that, hence why I merely asked why it so popular. Just pointing out I think all people should consider their options if they are thinking about purchasing this plan.
I am not saying this is a bad deal since I said its good value.

But if you want to be locked a plan until 2019, and the way technology is evolving, all the plans are getting bigger and cheaper while on this plan you will be stuck on this.

4gb may potentially be enough for now but 2 years ago but so was 1.5gb that all the cheap tpg plans had (which would be basically useless now).

Anyways each to their own I guess. For people who it suits their needs good on them.

        • @richmond12: You don't think people can consider other options without you suggesting it?

The way technology is evolving? Advancements in smartphone technology has slowed to a crawl compared to a few years ago.

Plans are getting bigger and cheaper? Uh, no they're not.

4GB may be enough now but not in 2 years? What is going to change between now and then? Smartphones could not be any more dependant on receiving and transmitting data than they are now. Why would someones usage dramatically increase?

        • -2

You just answered your own questions.

        • @richmond12:

I have unlimited internet plan at home. You download content to watch at home or you use lower streaming quality if you are away from home. See the likes of Netflix allow downloading for offline viewing now. If I need additional internet I purchase a 2nd SIM pack cheap such as labara deal, 5gb for $4.95 and tether. To me 4gb is an upgrade compared to what used to be available, so I'm already have adapted.

        • @Ronnnie: I get by with 200MB a month using one of Telstra's prepaid offers. I bought about 18 of their $30 starter packs when they were $5, and use it as a second SIM in my dual sim phone. 200MB is enough if all I check is email and google cards, and occasional websites and apps.

I download all the stuff I want to watch via a youtube downloader.

My primary SIM is a PAYG plan. I make calls and use data on Telstra SIM 2. Every month I get $30 of Google Play credit then throw away the SIM. Back when Rebatr was a thing, I'd get $16.50 cashback (the SIM card cost $5, so I make a profit of $11.50).

I've gotten by fine without massive GBs.

    • I've been on Telstra prepaid for the last 3 years. For the first 2 years i had only 800MB data allowance and a few times had to recharge earlier than normal because i ran out of it. For the last 12 months my data allowance was 3GB and i never came close to using that up so 4GB for my use is plenty and i gather that most people who have upvoted this deal and took advantage of it are in a similar position as myself.

  • +2

For those that need more data, Woolworths Mobile has just added a 12GB plan for the S8 at $92/month. If you believe an additional $27/month is worth 8GB of data, then this may be a good alternative.

Grab a great data deal with your Samsung Galaxy S8. 4GB data from $65/month, or 12GB from just $92/month.

Purchase the new Samsung Galaxy S8 on any of our great deals today:

    • 4GB plan from $65/month, min cost $1560 over 24 months.
    • 8GB plan and receive 12GB (bonus 4GB) data, from $92/month, min cost $2208 over 24 months.

Also get a bonus Gear VR to help you explore the world in 3D when you pre-order today. Pre-order now in just a few minutes.

    • -2

yep this is pretty good. should add this in the op.

    • For me, I'd rather pay $2 more for Optus, with 10GB data and free streaming of Fetch/Netflix/Stan/ABC Kids/ABC ME/Optus Sport/Premier League/Spotify/Google Play Music/Pandora/iHeartRadio.
But not everyone is in a good coverage area for Optus I guess.

  • Hi tightarse how long would it take for the cash rewards amount to register against my account? I purchased it through cr last night and there is no indication of it against my account? Cheers

    • +1

I'm not him, but I signed up about an hour ago, and got the CR tracking email a few minutes later.

  • Hi Guys
As woolies mobile is closed for this evening does anyone know if woolies postpaid mobile handsets are unlocked out of the box? Looking at the S8 deal? But would like to know for sure if they are unlocked like Tel Optus and Vodafone postpaid handset's.
    Thanks in advance

    • +1

      Yes they are unlocked.
      Cheers

  • Not working.. looks like a bug with the site:

    Failed to perform credit check
Element with the key 'FIRST_NAME' is not valid. (Error code: 2)

Just wanna thank OP for this absolute bloody rip snorter of a deal!
And 'Rob S' from Woolies Mobile for going above and beyond in assisting me with porting enquiries!
    Bring on April 28 :D

    • +2

We are expecting to get ours week before that :)

      • Can confirm - pre-order page changed from April 28 (when I first pre-ordered) to April 21 :)

  • +1

I signed up on Sunday and had a preconfirmation number and set up my password but now when I try to log in it is saying there's no mobile associated with that account. Is anyone else having this problem or are you able to assist Rod S?

  • +3

It has been over 24 hours and I still haven't received the cashrewards tracking email. Is anyone else in the same boat?

    • +1

yep, a click is registered on my acccount but I haven't received a tracking email for cashback so I guess the purchase itself didnt register. It's 7 days tomorrow so I'll open a support ticket with CR in the morning

      • Any luck with that?

        • Nearly been a week and still no tracking email….

  • +2

Bad news for anyone who went through CashRewards with staff discount. You'll be ineligible for the $101 cash return. But I guess the staff discount offsets that. So that's something.

However if anyone does get their cash return with staff discount tell me :)

    • Where did you hear this? Mine tracked alright, will have to wait and see if paid out

      • My CR wasn't logged so I contacted CS and they said it was ineligble as:

"… stated on the Woolworths Mobile store page under Special Terms, "Cashback will not be paid in conjunction with any other offer, voucher or discount code unless listed on this page, or with any other discounts such as staff, or student discount."

Showed them some of the comments here, the response was that:

"Some transactions may have been automatically tracked by the system but it doesn't mean that they will get the rewards as well. It will first show on their account as pending and since it shows on the stores special terms that cashback is not eligible for purchases with staff discount once the store reviews their purchase the cashback will be declined."

  • Wondering if there is a chance of getting a second sim card to share data?

    • I tried to look that up. Woolies doesn't offer data sharing afaik.

  • +1

    Hi
I am wondering, is there any way to check our online order? I cannot find any information when I logged in my account. I remembered when I preordered iphone 7 plus from Vodaphone, I can see the order and can see the delivery date.

  • +2

Just got the shipped email with a startrack tracking number. Though can't tell if it's the phone or just the SIM card.

    • When did you order?

      • Pretty much right after it was posted, before the increased cashback kicked in

        • Did you order the S8 or S8+?

        • @jcck: S8, midnight black

  • Shipped. Let's hope Startrack don't stuff it up…

  • Haven't received shipped email yet. I ordered mine a couple of days after deal was posted, so guess I'm down the queue. Lol

    • +1

Rod was saying only a very small number would ship on Tuesday, and the majority of preorders would ship this afternoon.

Shippining notifications can be quite late though, so don't lose hope of it shipping today until 9 or 10 pm tonight lol.

  • Did anyone else's existing SIM get disconnected? I was with Amaysim, gave Woolworths mobile my number for porting, and just this morning my SIM has been disconnected (no data no calls). Amaysim website says my number no longer exists. Should I be concerned or just wait for the s8 to arrive (sounds like others are getting their's shipped today) then reactivate my number?

    • I just checked. My service got disconnected too! But I have not received a shipping notice for the new phone and sim so what do they expect me to do without a phone service?

      • That's not fair, mine was sent out yesterday but my number is still working atm.

      • I gave Amaysim a call and they were not very helpful. Lodged a support request, told me 3-5 business days to find out what happened to my number. The S8 will probably arrive before then. Weird - I have no idea why they just disconnected our service before we've even activated the new SIM from woolworths.

  • Merged from Samsung Galaxy S8 Woolworths Mobile Order Status - SHIPPED

Just received an email from Woolworths Mobile telling me "Your order is on the way".

    Dear XXXX,

Great news, your Woolworths Mobile order has been shipped. To track the progress of your order, please visit www.startrack.com.au and enter your order number XXXX

    Check your Emails!

      • I live in Tassie so it may take longer?

    • Just got my e-mail too.

Edit: StarTrack website is working now, it lists my service level as "Overnight" - so perhaps we can expect our phones to be delivered the day after we get the shipping e-mail.

  • +1

Arrived! S8 + Gear VR with controller (& free content offer) + sim card.

    • when did you order ? Color ?

      • Midnight black, got the 'welcome aboard' email at 1:02am 31/03

        • thanks for sharing.. ordered mine on the 2nd April.. so i guess will be few days later than yours

        • When did you get the shipping email?

        • @plasmapuff: Yesterday, 4:40pm

  • +2

Mine has shipped. S8+ Orchid Grey, ordered 01/04.

    • Have you received it?

      • Arrived this morning (Brisbane).

        • I missed mine. Hope I can pick it up from the post tomorrow.

  • Has anyone managed to claim the Oculus VR voucher yet?

    • You can generate a voucher code in the "my Samsung' app.
It wasn't working for me yesterday but has appeared in one of the banners at the top of the home screen of the app.
Then you have to put the phone into the Headset, register an Oculus account and put in your voucher code and choose which bundle you want (I haven't got this far yet :-) )

      • Yeah that banner appeared today, and was informed by Samsung after I contacted them

  • Just thought I'd ask if anyone that placed their order on the 2nd April has received a tracking information email yet?

    • not yet, i ordered on 2nd April about 7pm

    • I just got a tracking mail from woolworth. I ordered on 2nd of April.

      • what model and color ?

        • got my tracking email around 4pm yesterday. 2/4 s8 plus grey

        • Its galaxy S 8 mapple gold colour

        • just got my tracking during lunch time.. ordered S8 Maple gold, but changed to S8+ Grey later..so not sure which one will be shipped :-)

  • anyone from WA got their mobile yet. I ordered gold S8+ and got the welcome mail on 31st March at 5:30pm wst and still awaiting shipping confirmation. Hard to wait. what's the link on Woolworths mobile to check the progress. It keeps taking me to the prepaid page.

    • Received mine in Perth. S8 Orchid Gray (looks better in person than on screen) with the GearVR and sim all in the same box. Ordered on the night it was posted (past midnight AEST I think) before the CR changed from $80 to $101.

    • I ordered on 04/04, got dispatch email 19/04, received today. S8+ Black

    • Received at 10am today

  • Received my dispatched confirmation from Woolworths yesterday lunch time. Was hoping that it would get delivered today to Melbourne. I appears that it was sent from Preston NSW. Called Startrack and they said that it will be on board for delivery tomorrow. So if you're from Melbourne I assume you can expect it to take two business days once you've received the email. But the StarTrack lady did say that there was issues with the Brightstar depot today which may have pushed it out to two days.

Speaking to Woolworths, a rep said that a few customers in Melbourne have received it and most likely they got the dispatch email yesterday - so fingers cross I get it within the next few hours (doubt it). He also said that the postage service used was the regular 3-5 business days sort not express overnight.

    • Mine was shipped on 20th from NSW, and received it today (21st). Maple gold. Courier required ID.

I'm in Melb too, so that would have been overnight shipping. Haven't unboxed it yet. Waiting for my screen protector to arrive… from China. Sigh.

      • Nice! Mine's coming today but driver hasn't come yet.

What screen protector did you get? This is my first edge display phone and I've read that glass screen protectors don't work well with edge displays because glue is only around the borders. But I bought a case friendly glass protector anyway for first hand experience.
