    and $80 cashrewards too :)

    • +1

Has it been confirmed? Or would it happen over the life of the plan? I forgot to use CashRewards, because I was too excited :(

      • +5

Update: Due to the overwhelming response to this offer, I'm happy to say CR is extending the $101 cashback until deal expiry (April 4 @ 11:59pm AEST). Thanks.

    • +81

Just been given approval to take this cashback to $101 until midnight Sunday. For those that have already ordered the handset/plan at $80 cashback, please ping us via the CR contact us form, and we'll gladly make the adjustment for you. Enjoy your day :)

      • how this cashrewards works? do i need to got to cashreward website and redirect to wws website to preorder?

        • yes

      • oh.. I just phoned Woolworths to cancel my order because I didn't know I had to go throught cashrewards site. FFS ive made a mess now.

      • I went through CR but didn't get any notification or credit in my CR account D: what do i do?

        • contact tightarse

      • +1

Any chance you can do the cashback until the date of the deal completion with Woolworths Mobile on 4 April?

      • +1

Got a lot of problems with the woolworths order. Can get the cash rewards credits currently pending but none of my applications got through (even though I got to the last page - confirmation email sending to you soon, but never received)

Woollies can't figure it out either, they think it's to do with CR ghosting system??

        • +1

Yep, me too. Can't get any payment (credit card) approved. Been on the phone to woollies support and they've said there is an issue with CR redirects. Not sure when it'll be rectified.

        • +1

@Caltron: yea talked to the woolies rep and they said the same thing, they can't do much besides raising the issue to CR.

I'm curious if anyone gone through CR and actually received a confirmation email from woolworths.

        • +1

@omnimaqq: Mine went througg without any dramas. You're not using a mobile web browser are you?

        • +1

@aja12: not at all, used google chrome, not sure what went wrong

        • @omnimaqq: hmmm, I used chrome too. Might give Firefox a shot when I get home.

        • @Caltron:

Finally got the confirmation randomly this morning. I seems like the very first one that got to the confirmation page got through.

Hope you had some luck getting the order. It may just be a delay in their system

      • Just made a purchase and got through fine on my second submission. The confirmation email came through so whatever issue they had might have been resolved.

      • +1

Tightarse it's been over 2 weeks and i'm yet to receive my cashback, I've opened a claim with the Ticket [#66861].

    • I'ts much cheaper than the $100+ that Telstra will be no doubt charging (and the S8 itself is $1199 outright) so $361 more isn't as bad as previous phones.

  • +46

    For the S8+,
    $69*24 = $1656-$80 cashback = $1576. $1349 preorder on Samsung website which means 1576-1349 = 227 = $9.5/month for 4gb data + unlimited calls and messages.

Even if you somehow get the S8+ for $1000, that's still 1576-1000=$576=$24/month which is still fairly decent considering you aren't paying for the phone outright

Overall, pretty good deal in my opinion :)

Also a free Samsung Gear VR!

    • +3

Sell the Samsung Gear VR for a bonus saving too, this is quite a brilliant plan

      • +2

well that'll get you an extra $75 on ebay perhaps, including postage…

      • +40

You can get a galaxy s2 for $60 in cash converters

        • +18

True. But when I see a fellow ozbargainer trying to justify a purchase by referring to Samsung's $1,349 pre order price…I guess I think that someone needs to say something. Lol.

        • +8

          @clandestino:
He didn't though, his figures were based off a very generous $1000 street price.

        • +1

@Merlict: well there are two examples in the post. Like you said, the second is more conservative and assumes 4gb for $24 per month, for 2 years.

Personally I wouldn't want to spend $1k on this phone and have that 2 yr contract, but I totally appreciate that many would be happy with it.

      • +22

I always argue against contracts and buying outright. However this is pretty good value for a pre order phone on a plan. In 6 months it will be cheaper to source outright, but it won't have vr headset and you have to wait 6 months. Opportunity cost and there's also the fact you'll have to come up with that $1000 in one go.

        • +2

Adding to that if you were to buy outright grey stock it may be difficult with warranty. Whereas this would be local stock making warranty an easier process.

        • +2

I always argue against contracts and buying outright.

What option does that leave one with? Stealing? ;)

        • -2

You really shouldn't get a new phone if you can't come up with $1,000 in one go, irrespective of whether you're buying it outright or plan.

      • -1

In 12 months time you will be using an "old phone".

        Waste of money.

Just get Aldi prepaid $249 for each year. Plus a good android. Each year.

Total cost $1000 over two years.

        • +12

I needed some comedy on my Friday morning.

        • +8

So you mean $500/Year? So after the plan cost you want a good android phone for $250? Sure, you can get a phone for that price, but putting "good" in front of it is a stretch.

    • +2

The Optus $10 recharge gives 3gb and calls. And in 24 months plans will be better. I say hold off till the price drops in a few weeks.

      • +3

Which Optus recharge is this? There's a $30 SIM (starter kit) including 3 GB that's currently discounted to $10, but any recharge itself will cost you $30, not $10

        • +1

Stock up in those and you can use the $10 card every second month. Wait for a sale on telstra packs and swap back and forth

        • +1

@crentist: Telstra packs haven't been on sale for quite a while.

        • +1

they come up very very often though really. event the $10 for $1 sims.

        • @crentist:

You don't even need to do that. You can just replace your current Optus SIM and it automatically loads the $30 to your account.

        • @ronnknee:
Interesting, you mean we don't need to port out every month?how do you do that?

        • @ronnknee: do you have to ring them?

        • @n4630386:

Yes. Like, I said. Using the "Replace my SIM" function in Optus.

        • +1

          @IMBI3:

You can if you want but you can do it easily online.

        • +2

@ronnknee: woah, nice. can you confirm if this is still okay over a long period? i was porting monthly for about 2 years without any trouble, but this would be a bit easier if they don't kick up a fuss or take long to port

        • @ronnknee: 6 - Choose the reason for replacing SIM and click OK

          What are the options?

        • @crentist:

Well, I haven't had any issues so far. Can't tell what's going to happen in the future, but I'm comfortable continuing.

        • @unity1:

I assume faulty SIM, lost SIM etc. I actually do it through here which doesn't require a reason. I think you have to go through "My Account" if your service is no longer active.

        • @ronnknee: Thanks, might give it a try one day. Just need to pop into Optus and grab a few blank SIMs.

        • +2

@unity1: You're not gonna get any credit using blank SIMs. I'm sorry if that's the impression you guys got, but you actually need starter packs which are loaded with credit. Eg. Replacing your SIM with a $30 starter pack gives you $30 credit; replacing with $40 gives you $40 etc.

The advantage of this is that you deal with one carrier and do not have to risk screwing up between two carriers when porting.

        • +1

@ronnknee: I see, thank you so much for clarifying that. I thought you may have found a loophole that gives you unlimited credit. Happy to stock pile these starter packs as long as they have good expiry dates. I purchased some a few months ago and can't find where I put them.

        • @ronnknee:

do you still get bonuses like the offers u get from prepaid ultimate or are u saying $30 flat credit.

        • @terahammer:

$30 flat credit. So the following month, your service will continue and deduct $30 credit. If it happens to be double data period, then you will get it.

        • @ronnknee: so service would continue on the same existing plan or it would be pay as you go plan ?

          Thanks mate

        • +1

          @OzSikhs:

          Whatever your current plan is.

        • @ronnknee:
Hi, I was trying to replace a new sim(starter kit without activated) but failed.
Do you actually need to activate a starter kit first and then replace old sim to the new activated one? Thanks!

        • @n4630386:

Do you currently have an Optus prepaid service? If so, if you use the "replace SIM" function, you are essentially activating the $30 starter pack and transferring your number to that SIM.

        • @ronnknee:
I am using optus prepaid now and it is expired tomorrow. I didn't activate a $30 starter sim first. Should I activate it first and then use replace sim function to transfer my old number to the new sim?

        • @ronnknee:

          Which one do you choose?
Are you able to send and receive SMS with your old SIM?

I choose Yes, and fails. Maybe I should try No?
          Thanks!

    • One problem versus buying outright is that you're at the mercy of the carrier to provide updates which always delays an already slow process - how have Woolworths been in the past?

      • +1

Just flash the australian stock rom to get rid off all the customization and always have the newest available official AU updates. Not that they are updated very regularly anyways

        • +3

I'd hazard a guess that the Woolworths stock will just be the stock ROM anyway.

Can't see a small telco like WW messing around with their own customised firmwares.

          Could be wrong, though.

        • Standard is once a month now. That's pretty regular if you care about staying up to date. Mostly security updates.

        • +1

@elusive: Thats security updates, however OS updates are yearly, and Samsung seem to be improving in this, where my Galaxy Note 4 is still getting monthly security updates and recently had software updates to 6.0.1, although I doubt it will get Nougat.

        • @Trishool:

They're security updates, but it's still a new firmware version & ROM - specifically, one that can be delayed by a carrier. Though the rep confirmed Woolworths runs stock so not an issue here.

        • @elusive: Good to know, thanks.

        • @BradH13: whats the difference between stock and branded?

      • +22

Our phones run stock firmware and updates are pushed directly from Samsung.
        Cheers

Hi is there any discount for staff members with the rewards card?

        • +3

          @shadowrukia:

Hi - yes if you enter your People Discount card number during the sign-up process (and it is validated successfully) it will apply the 10% discount
          Cheers

        • @Rod S: awesome, what would the cost be over the years with that? sorry im not the smart with maths

        • +2

          @shadowrukia:

          $65 x 0.9 = $58.50 x 24 = $1,404 (minimum cost) over 24 months

        • +2

          @Rod S: Hello Rod,
Is there any discount code for family and friend?
          Like something we can use?

          Thanks

        • @Rod S:
          Hi
Can i use my friend's discount card and order under my name. Because i want to port my number.

      • Woolworths phone is unbranded. At least the s7 was

      • -1

Samsung suck giant balls when it comes to updates anyway. I bought the note 5 outright on day one. I was shocked to my very core by the total lack of updates. I wasn't even getting basic security updates. Now I have a pixel. I find with nexus/pixel/iPhone I keep the phones much longer because they stay relevant where as Sammy's phones are considered ancient after a year because they don't update them (and the ui usually looked dated on day one so they don't age well)

        • +1

Not really. It's best to just not update to the latest OS. my Nexus 6P went down the toilet in terms of battery life and unexplained lags ever since i updated from what came out of the box.

    • However, you are locked in for 24 months.

    • +6

      yes dude

    • +2

      Haha i get it.

  • +2

Pretty good price, they also use Telstra services

    • Entire network, or part of the network, like Aldi, Boost and Kogan?

      • That’s why Woolworths uses parts of Telstra’s 4G mobile network. Our customers can enjoy a combined 4G and 3G coverage of 98.8% of the Australian population.

        part,

      • +4

        Isn't Kogan Vodafone?

      • +1

So keep in mind that using a part of the Telstra Network means that it's Ok for town folk but if you need coverage in remote areas your shafted.

        • +1

Not to mention the outages they're so notorious for lately!

Looks sort of interesting, but I will wait for M-au's unbiased opinion. :)
