Avoid. Deliveroo tries to profit from exploiting delivery staff by underpaying them and is known to ignore Australian workplace laws. Their business model involves sham contracting.

I know someone who delivers for them and loves it.
They get flexibility, ride their bike, keep fit, and get paid for it.

No one is forcing anyone to work for them. Sure, some people might get paid below what's considered standard award wage as they're in a bad area with few deliveries, but no one is forcing them to work for Deliveroo. Just quit if you don't like it.

This country has laws. You cant just ignore them and pay people what you want. If you knowingly pay less than the legislated minimum, its exploitation, pure and simple. Just because someone agrees to work for less, it doesn't make it okay. A fair wage is one of the foundations this country was built on.

They actually do pay them what they like and do it by treating delivery drivers/delivers as contractors and NOT employees. Therefore minimum wage rates and legal entitlements do not apply.. so its true they get underpaid on hourly basis compared to delivery employees BUT they dont have any less rights than a uber driver.

        • Telling unemployed job seekers to get an ABN in order to get paid, when they don't really understand the ramifications (liability, laws, tax, etc) of running a business is called sham contracting, and its unlawful.

  • wish they would list which pizza places are included…
