  • Are they weatherproof ?

Some people put them outside undercover but they're definitely not waterproof.

      • thanks…

  • Needs a plugin to view video in the browser… Stupid.
Not going to down vote as the price is good.

    • Wow that shipping is much cheaper! Updating the post

Please DO NOT enable Telnet to this camera and everything will be fine. If the Telnet username/password is root/vizxv then this is one of the 61 passwords Mirai uses.

    • Given that almost every Internet of Shit Things device is hopelessly insecure just don't connect it to the internet.

  • our first baby is on the way, and we are looking for a video monitor. any thoughts on whether this would be suitable, has anyone used anything similar before?

    • Lots of people in the SlickDeals thread said they used it as a video monitor because it had great night vision.
      https://slickdeals.net/f/9841427-amcrest-prohd-1080p-wi-fi-s…

    • I got a couple of zosi ones, easy to use and PQ is good.

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ZOSI-720P-Wireless-WiFi-Network-D…

      • I have the same and very happy with the picture and sound quality from it. The only negatives for me is no timestamp on the videos and the generated files on the SD card seem to be saved with in UTC time. Local time would have been nicer.

      • As a bonus, use code C5AU for an extra 5% off.

    • We used the foscam 720p 9821 cameras (several rooms). This is a much better version (same people behind both companies I believe). The foscams were very good for this and imagine the higher res and zoom features would only improve the functionality. Just don't expose them to the net without a private vpn, etc… I also wouldn't use a cloud based service to post/access video of my children but I guess not everyone is as paranoid… :)

    • You can get a 720p camera with the same features for a lot less. I got this one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/252462209165 from a local eBay seller for under $40 with promotion code and cashrewards cashback. Good as a baby monitor, with excellent night vision and very sensitive microphone so we can hear the baby stir before she cries & wakes. Uncertain about the Chinese app security but I'm not paranoid & the ONVIF camera hardware seems great value.

    • Definitely get a baby cam with night vision.

Big thing to consider is notifications. Some cameras can do motion or sound notifications, so you don't need to view the video stream to know baby is awake.
I used the d-link wifi baby camera, used notifications for a short period with baby #1, but never with baby #2.
It will strongly depend on your baby and/or parenting style as to whether or not you use them.

Also, consider room placement. I always found it difficult to find good placement for the d-link, because of the average field of view.
One of the best features I liked about the d-link was the temperature display on-screen, and you can configure the led on top of the camera to change colour when it's too hot or too cold.

Don't know why people on SlickDeals are going crazy?

It's only $3.10 more from a repuatble authorised seller Newegg for US customers US$68 with free shipping
    https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=0YH-0118-00…

No stock in the Newegg Au store for us though.

  • Don't get it - where's the deal? It was cheaper on amazon last month… ??

Do you only want deals posted when it's the lowest price ever?

  • Does amazon US deliver free to Australia (Perth) and within 10-12 days ?

    • Free? No. Australia? Yes.

You could always just check yourself by going to the checkout.

      • didnt show me the delivery charge!!

  • Any recommendation of weatherproof WiFi camera ?? Looking for Home Security camera…..

  • A basic optical zoom matched with motion tracking seem to me like valuable features worth paying more for over this type of camera. If a burgular walks through my front yard I want the camera to track him and have a reasonably close up image (not pixelated by digital zoom in the dark..)

I'm happy to spend ~$200-300, can anyone recommend models with these features? Is it worth going for brand names or are some of the cameras on Aliexpress actually worth considering?

    • +2

Optical zoom, motion tracking, weatherproof and IR? For $200-$300?

Yeah, not going to happen. For those feature you're looking at $500+ per camera easily.

      • I found one for $340 in a few seconds:
        http://www.lightinthebox.com/reolink-rlc-423-4-megapixel-144…

Does anyone have any experience with these higher spec cameras from Chinese brands?
In addition to optical zoom this one features POE and 360 degree pan and tilt, seems very good to me and a lot more useful than the one listed in this post.

        • Doesn't have motion tracking. Only motion detection.
