Arista HD Set Top Box with HDMI DVB-HD72, Freeview $49.95 with $10 shipping cap

50

Looks like an OK choice for those that missed the other two recently. Even better if you still have a $20 or $10 Shopping Square voucher.
Good on Shopping Square for doing reasonable postage this time - $10 shipping cap.

  • Good price. Although not as good a deal as the previous Highlander and Kogan deals that included usb port for media playback and PVR recording

    • Yes true, no USB.
Still a good way to use your shopping square voucher (if you have one) with reasonable postage, this time.
Spare telly in the bedroom etc…

    • Yeah true. Theonly positive from this one compared to the Highlander is that this STB has Optical Out - Highlander didn't.

  • does being "freeview compatible" make any difference?

i've been told to avoid those

    • Looks like it has not licensed the freeview logo, so probably not crippled.
Then again, if its just a cheapie, it might not have commercial skipping features anyway.
I use mythtv, which can be set to automatically jump over the adverts, and works very well.

    • freeview means it can recieve further firmware updates from TV stations I think.
However for those that can record - it apparently blocks skipping ads.

  • BUYER BE AWARE.This unit is MPEG2 only. No MPEG4 support.
Box is not future proof and reference to Freeview is all fluff

IMO better off spending a bit extra & getting an MPEG4 compatible box
