Any possible deals for USB-Type C cables?

    • +1

yeah, so hard to find these!

  • Does anybody have experience with this using to charge dell xps15 over USB type-c

    • +1

It'll charge but only at 30W. The Anker one from cablegeek does 45W.

      • -1

Maxing out a charger is a bad idea. Great way to blow it up.

Look at wattage requirements on or near the battery compartment, or better yet what does the standard charger put out?
        100w? More?

My point is, if this thing can pump out 30w max but the device wants more you'll shorten the lifespan of the charger for sure.
Better to go the other way around and get a charger that is rated HIGHER in wattage than the device requirements.

But 30w won't cut it… not even close.

        • Negs? Really?

          Volts x Amps = Watts.

When you match a charger to a device the volts must be accurate, but as long as the amps exceed the device requirements the charger will be ok (as will the device).

OP's charger will AT MAX puts out 30w.
The Dell XPS15 standard charger puts out 130W. That's a huge difference… and there's no magical charger out there that'll pull the difference from thin air and still allow a device to function properly.

Just because the USB-C port can 'throttle' the amperage down by also throttling the device power requirements down (in this instance from 130w down to 30w… or a 77% reduction), doesn't mean it's good for either.

Your charger will be running flat out to pump 30w to the device, and in reciprocation the Dell will run 'barely' at 77% reduced power (if at all)… or maybe a 'trickle charge' for the battery (a very slow charge that won't actually allow you to power up your device).

Those negging need to a) Pick up a 8th grade Physics book, and b) Read up on the huge holes in USB-C right now. There's no industry standard because too many companies arent following it, and people are stuffing their devices and/or chargers left right and center. There is NO magical charging standard for devices folks. At least not yet. USB-C will hopefully be that standard soon, but at present its not cutting it.

Negs from idiots. This site needs to show who's negging who to show up the punks who can't/won't follow the rules because they are suffering from butt hurt for whatever reasons.

But god forbid, don't just take my word for it:

          http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/best-usb-c-chargers-whats-safe-…

Have a careful read of the list within… just sayin.

Long story short, just cause your device has a USB Type C port, doesnt mean it can just use any old USB Type C charger. There's a lot of crap out there that doesn't meet the standard 'trying' to be set.

Edited: Case in point, two USB-C chargers from Apple… but both are very different in power delivery, but both are USB-C chargers:

Get the right charger for your device!

  • Both my phone and laptop are now usb c so hopefully we start seeing multiple USB c ports soon.

    • +2

Most of the multi port chargers only do 10-12W on the other ports. Even getting 15W on a second USB-C port would be unusual.

  • +1

    Any experience with the earphones

  • is there any reason why it says Macbook 2016 model? does that mean it won't charge the 2015 model?

    • +2

I quoted Tronsmart on that one. Should definitely work on the 2015 model if it has Type-C.

      • thanks mate, bought one. thanks for sharing ;)

  • no QC 3.0 support on the USB type C charger?

  • -1

Is the power adapter an Australian plug? I don't want to use a converter to use this charger.

    • An EU cable is included, but supports a standard Figure 8 Cable.

      Uses this:

      • -1

So I have to buy a separate cable if I don't want to use a converter

        • yes

        • Unless you don't have a spare, then yes.

        • Do you sell a separate AU cable?

        • +1

Anyone know the best place to buy an AU cable on the cheap but not so cheap it will burn the house down?

        • +1

@mrpickle: Officeworks stock them for about ~$4.

        • -1

A link would be good, ie, some customer service. I'll do it for you
          https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/jackson-fe…

        • +1

@HONDA4LIFE: Didn't link that one as the reviews aren't good. They should stock others instore.

        • -2

You shouldn't bother posting a product that's not suitable for use in Australia, with additional costs involved to get it to work. Sorry, I don't have 'spare' cables just lying around in my house. Was close to purchasing, but it's not worth the hassle.

        • @HONDA4LIFE: I negotiate these deals myself with GeekBuying and there is often a high demand for these kind of products regardless of the plug type.

        • This is Australia, not EU.

        • @HONDA4LIFE: No need to be so aggressive about it. If there was an AU option like this I'd post it. Besides a lot of people request other plug types.

  • -2

Negotiate better next time to get one with an AU plug, then I'll buy. I'm sure this back & forth will put a number of people off. I want convenience. I want a working product delivered to my door. That's the whole point of buying online. I don't want to drive 10km to my nearest Officeworks to pickup a cable to get your product to work.

    • Prior deals came with AU plug included. Just have to pick your moments (and ask the right questions, like you have done).
