Yep the locals know Yackandandah as 'Yack'. (I used to live in 'Punkah') That is real 'country'. It is amazing how far we have come in a country where the most exotic dining experience used to be the local Chinese restaurant, now we have Thai sauce made in Yack!!

    • How long ago was this? We may have one degree of separation! Haha

      • Probably before you were born. hehe! I wasn't even old enuff to drink at the 'Punkah Pub' when I ran away from home in '68 to join the navy and defend Aust from the Commo's (Domino Theory Vietnam). But I still remember the local lingo:- 'Wandy Pub', 'Punkah Pub', 'Yack Pub'……..ummmm? they spoke about pubs a lot!! But they were the salt of the earth hard workers, and so why not. Sadly the 'roll-your-own-cigarettes' probably got them!

  • and a good Thai restaurant (Grace's Place) in Yack now as well

    • years ago I had to make do with the chinese restaurant down that side street in Beechworth.

Hey, I go there all the time, best Chinese within a 200km radius! Love the sizzling Szechuan King Prawns!

        • hey, chopsticks restaurant in Corryong does a damn good banana fritter

        • @altomic: Hmm allergic to banana, so that will go down like a cup of hot sick. I assume other items on their menu are good also though? If so, I'll make a trip out later this month to try!

        • @sqeeksqeek: save your petrol. the banana fritter is probably the best thing. it's your traditional Australian-Chinese restaurant.

though I will strongly recommend Imperial Chopsticks on Dean St in Albury (opposite the commercial club). it was a regular place for me.

      • Know that one well!
