  • dupe , that offer has been in officeworks more than a month ago, plus you can buy cheaper elsewhere(not WD but hitachi)

    • really?
where can i get cheaper ones?

      • check ozbargain often…theres lots of deals of external HD's
however, not always WD but just as good if your not after the 'garuntee' of big brands

        • oh thank you so much!
cause am searching for a bargain for HD now ^^

          • @eimirai: Honestly, given the recent price drops in 2tb drives (int ~$140, ext ~$170), that would be the capacity I'd be aiming for if your budget allows! ;)

            • @StewBalls: I am worried. If i get the 2tb, if something went wrong, all my stuffs stored in it will be gone…

So it is safer to use 1tb right?

              • @eimirai: If either drive fails, your data would be gone. It is safer to get get 2x 1TB than 1x 2TB hard drive. but it would take 2x amount of power sockets, usb ports, and space.

              • @eimirai: That's one theory, yes, I don't subscribe to it completely however, since if we followed it to the letter none of us would even have 1tb drives now, we'd have all gone for two 500gb ones, and so on…! ;)

I don't trust my important backups to a single storage medium, as good as they are nowadays, HDDs are still a relatively volatile device…I recall whinging on here a year or so ago about my two new-ish Seagate 1tb drives crashing within days of each other despite being from slightly different batches & being firmware checked! Of course the liars at Seagate didn't do the promised data retrieval for me either, so I wasn't a happy camper…a valuable lesson though, once bitten…

              • +2

                @eimirai: buy 2 x 2tb and use one as a backup.

  • North Shore Computers has it slightly cheaper
    http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=1tb+wd+elem…

    • but after delivery, will cost more…

and their pick up locations are not as convenient…

  • Sad thing about Officeworks is that they dont negotiate and even with clearance, prices dont come down. Go figure. They like being difficult and different to every other major C.E. shop…

    • well they do have the lowest price guaranteed…..

      • +1

I wish I had a buck for every argument I've had with idiot OW managers getting them to honour it! :(

        • Well if you won those arguments, arguably you would have more than a buck for each of them :P

If you didnt… well that sucks

        • why do u talk to the managers for? just talk to the other people that work there….they'll just put it right through for ya.

          • @mr_vino89: Nope, they always ask for the manager, never had a staff member do one without the boss present!

Oh yeah, I always get the discount, even if I've gotta invoke threats of FT or ACCC; but you get sick of wasting time fighting for a discount when there's other retailers who'll do it without whining! ;)

            • +2

@StewBalls: lol tru tru. well i work at OW in Brisbane and I just put it through for people. im not the manager either. guess it depends on which ow store you go to and which nice team member is helping ya. 'majority' of the time though, u should get ur discount etc etc.
the only reason why OW doesn't give out random discounts or negotiate prices is because we operate like a woolies or a Coles supermarket where prices are fixed. Employees there get paid per the hour without commission etc. Whereas JB Hi-Fi, WOW Sight and Sound and Harvey Norman also get commission for their sales and therefore can negotiate the price which subsequently determines how much commission they make.

              • @mr_vino89: I've had several staff apologise (out of the manager's earshot of course) for being forced to do this…they all say the same thing, pretty much word for word…"if the company's gonna bitch about honouring it, they shouldn't bloody offer it", lol..they don't get an argument from me on that score! ;)

FWIW, I've found the worst guy IME to be at Market Town OW in Newcastle, bald guy, complete idiot! I told him that too when he wanted to keep my newspaper with the competitor's advertised price in it once; roflmao, I told him to wake up to himself & made him go photocopy the page himself whilst the staff did the transaction! Actually, in hindsight the look on his face trying to give me stinkeye whilst doing the copying was worth the argument that day! :p

              • @mr_vino89: I must agree with mr_vino89. I've been to OW Milton and Mt Gravatt, both of them give me discount stragiht away without consulting managers.

                • @katsuya: Fair enough, good to hear someone, somewhere doesn't have to battle for it! :)

Kinda almost makes me wish I lived in one of those areas, possibly it's just some of the Hunter (NSW) store managers' instore policies that ain't much chop! ;)

  • yea always back up your important stuff multiple times. i learnt the hard way one too many times
ill stick to 500gb-1tb hds since if you lose it it isnt that much
losing 2tb of data would make me cry

  • This 1TB HDD for $90-100 dollars deal has been going on in some shape or form since July last year.

OfficeWorks just tend to alternate between Seagate (who's 1-2TB range you should avoid like the plague, Google "seagate clicking noise") & WD from time to time.

Harvey Norman & Dicksmith also sold 640-1TB Seagates for around $90 dollars last year too.

    • I second the comment about the clicking noise, I have a seagate and after the first one crash totally within 2 months the second replacement one they shipped out to me is now clicking too. Seagate should be avoided at all costs

  • HN has had this exact HDD at $94 for a month. Was $95 before that and I think $100 before that. They're slowly creeping down in price
