  • -2

an ice cold beer or wine

    Cheaper at Dan Murphy's…

    • +1

do you go to a restaurant, look at the menu and complain to the waiter that everything can be bought from a supermarket and cooked at home cheaper?
      don't lie now…

      • +4

JV brings his own stuff into the restaurant, and cooks and serves himself.

        • LMAO
          good call mate!

      • everything can be bought from a supermarket and cooked at home cheaper?

I'm talking about the beer, not the food. It's marked up to ridiculous prices and they don't actually do anything to it to add value, unlike food.

        • and they don't actually do anything to it to add value, unlike food.

Except provide an enjoyable atmosphere and environment, and staff who bring it to your table?

        • Must something fancy happening in the fridges. They probably just forgot to mention it in the advert.

        • @Chazzozz:

Except provide an enjoyable atmosphere and environment

That's subjective and doesn't justify the rip-off markups for alcohol. Especially beer that does not need to be cellared…

and staff who bring it to your table?

they just got a pay cut, so costs are now less

Except refrigerate it, put in a glass for you if you want, bring it to you, clean away your bottle/can/glass/rubbish, provide a toilet for you to piss the beer out, pay water bills for your toilet to flush, clean the toilets. AND you’re comparing the price of their beer to the price of a VB stubby? Not the same thing. Do you just post comments for the sake of your comment count?

        • @WillisAU:

          Except refrigerate it

          Dan's are also refrigerated.

put in a glass for you

I prefer straight from the stubby…

          clean away your bottle/can/glass/rubbish

Unnecessary… I can return them in SA on my next trip there and get back the deposit.

provide a toilet for you to piss the beer out

Have you been to Oktoberfest in Munich?

        • @jv:

What WillisAU and I are trying to point out is you're attempting to compare two disparate things. Buying beer at a discount price at Dan's/1st Choice/BWS/Liqourland/Cheap-Piss-R-Us and taking it home to consume it in private does not equate to buying the same product in a full-service public establishment. Yes, you may perceive the product to be more expensive, but as we've tried to explain the cost involved is not just for the beer itself - you're actually paying for a lot of other ancillary costs that must be met in just providing you the service.

To bring it back on-topic, if a bar or licenced restaurant is happy to provide a $5 drink where I can unwind and relax with friends after work I think that's actually a pretty good bargain. If I'd rather drink alone in the privacy of my own home I'll go to the bottlo and pick up a 6-pack of whatever is going cheap, and that's a pretty good bargain, too. Horses for courses, mate.

        • @Chazzozz:

does not equate to buying the same product in a full-service public establishment.

You're paying for the food to be cooked and served. They do not do anything to make the beer better so the markup is unjustified. What if you just have tap water???

        • @jv:

What if you just have tap water???

Even if you take your own glass and fill it from the tap in the loo the business still has to pay for rent, electricity, insurance, wages, advertising….the list goes on. If they were to give away their drinks at a vastly lowered price then they'd have to compensate by raising the price of the food. Agreed, they don't do anything to enhance the beer, but they still have to sell it at a profit in order to pay for everything else you're taking advantage of. And, I'd be willing to wager that the price they pay for beer is not a lot different from what you are paying at Dan's. The wholesale markup on alcohol is three-fifths of bugger-all, and with major discounters like Dan Murphys and 1st Choice selling at just above the wholesale price (and often below) that leaves no room for full-service establishments. Hence why they have to sell the same thing at what amounts to twice the price you're paying in order to just pay their bills.

They've already added that to the cost of the food… Have you seen their prices?

        • @jv:

Just because you deem it expensive doesn't automatically make it unworthy.

Just because you deem it expensive doesn't automatically make it unworthy.

          It is for me…

That's why there is a comments section and a voting section on OzBargain. So we all get a chance to express our opinions on the deal posted…

How many upvotes had this 'deal' had ??? 164 people have read the deal…

        • @jv:

Exactly! It's also why I didn't neg your comment, despite not agreeing with it. The Deal is in the eye of the Bargain Hunter.

        • @Chazzozz:

The Deal is in the eye of the Bargain Hunter.

So far 0.61% of people reading this 'deal' consider it a bargain… The other 99.39% don't…

        • @jv:

…and your argument that a $5 drink in a full-service establishment is the same as buying from Dan Murphys still doesn't hold water, either. Or beer, as in this case.

  • So.. like happy hour?

  • 糯米鸡 hehe

    • -1

      糯米猪肉更好 haha

  • Neil Perry = totally overrated. Burger Project is terrible.
