So minimum spend would be $11.95+ for a foot long and $2.80+ for a drink, total $14.75.

Even for one meal that's a pretty good deal. I'm consistently surprised how Subway doesn't seem more popular given the value for money and quality of food.

      • +22

in my experience Subway has had one of the most remarkable declines in quality in fast food post-covid

        • +1

Ah fair enough. I use to get a lot veggie subs pre-covid, and haven't really had it since due to location.

        • their bread is the worst, and this coming from someone who used to eat a footlong once a week till 2020

        • +3

This exactly. Used to be my favourite chain takeaway by far and I'd eat it 5-6 times a week, now I'm genuinely lucky to get it once a year because it has fully jumped the shark, both in value and more so, quality.

I'll give it another go with this deal, but I bet it's still no good.

          • @BradH13: no harm in getting a turkey or veggie wrap for $6 once in a while

          • @BradH13: Could you explain how quality deteriorated?

      • Because they are expensive in comparison to other fast-food chains. I quickly checked out this deal in the app and any footlong subs with average amount of meat is $15+, then $3 extra for a drink. $18 for 2 footlongs (and bottle of water if you value it) is really just an average deal in fast food standards. With their everyday prices, I would just go get a proper dish from cafes.

      • Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure Subway is the biggest (pr was the biggest) fast food brand in the World. So pretty popular.

        • +2

          Big is a bit vague.

Had the most franchises - yes. Other metrics, hell no.

        • +2

I don't think this is right. The article that came out was they now had more stores, but Subway stores are comparatively smaller and sell on average less than McDonalds. There are more of them in places like the USA because they are a small cheap store to throw up in a shopping centre as a franchisee. McDonalds would have more floor area and sales. I read somewhere that a Maccas store (given many are large stores with drive-thru's etc) can generally do like 6-7 times the sales of a Subway.

As for advertising spend, at least in US, in 2022 Dominos was biggest followed by McDonalds.

Globally I'd think it has to be McDonalds.

McDonalds has the largest global market share. So even if advertising dollars get pipped from time to time, it's only because it doesn't have to. Whilst watered down as a proportion, it still dominates after all these years.

But regardless, Subway are still are massive brand.

… and coincidentally I've been a customer of both within the past day!

      • It is the app. So clunky

    • +5

Really depends on your local pricing. Seen footlongs for $9.95 and cheapest drink anywhere from $2.50-$4.

      • Ah ok, well that was Gold Coast prices, cheapest footlong was Turkey and a few others, cheapest drink was 250ml chocolate milk.

        • +1

Ah okay, if you get ones with fountain drinks (where you're only paying for the cup) they are often cheaper but still $2.80 not bad.

      • yes I went a regional area and ordered what I usually do and paid more than I was used to - two footlongs (meatball and chicken teriyaki) was $29.70.

    • Why would it be $11.95? Plenty of stores have for around $10

  • +4

Back in the prime of receipt vouchers, this was always on the back at woolies, except the footlongs were mostly $7-9. I used to live off this deal.

    • +1

Yep the $7 value footlong deals were the bomb becomes too expensive paying $28 for two basic ones these days.

      • Oh yes the pizza sub.

Also why they removed oven roasted chicken

    • I wonder what happened to shopadockets. They went from ubiquitous to disappearing very rapidly. maybe the onslaught of the digital giants making it no longer effective. Even their website is dead.

Looking further it went into liquidation in 2023.

    • +2

Very time racist of them for sure. You should complain. Before 5pm.

    • -2

Just tell them you identify the time as 5pm whenever you go.

      • hillarious?

    • I'm with you on this one. After 5PM, I don't think I have ever had a Subway that late. Subway is not 'dinner' food, it is lunch.

    • +1

it's after 5pm so they can give you leftover bread that no one else would purchase that night

  • +1

I remember when Subway had VIP cards with stick on stamps and I bought hundreds of stamps off eBay for cheap. Good times!

    • I just got heaps for free off a mate who worked there - allegedly.

  • Ask to pay in store to stack with another discount if you have one (can against their terms).

  • Haven't had this since the 90's. Customer made me buy for him which meant I was eating subway too. It's improved alot. Just avoid certain franchisees and you'll be fine.

  • Anyway to see the participating restaurants? I was caught out with that Smiths Chips promotion. Ended up having to contact them to find out

  • Thanks OP

  • Saw this on the app…..shame it's after 5pm only, can't quite bring myself to subway for dinner these days, more of a lunch time thing ya know?

  • Don’t bother trying to use at mackay stores they won’t honour it. Then proceeded to throw your subway at you as you question them.

  • Coca-Cola Vanilla Zero Sugar 600mL - $99.00

    JEEBUS!

  • Chicken & Bacon Ranch Melt Subway Footlong® - $15.40
    Italian B.M.T.® Subway Footlong® - $13.50
    Mt Franklin Spring Water 600mL x 2 - $8
    Subtotal - $36.90
    Discount: -$13.50
    Cart total - $23.40
So the water effectively pays for the sub. I guess $24 for two is alright.

    • I misunderstood. Removed one bottle, so just $4. Savings, whoooo!
      Thanks op! $19 for two.

  • What does the following mean?

Redeem via the Subway® app or in-restaurant

Can I go in store and buy without the need for the app or does it mean that I need to order on the app and I can collect in-store?

If the former, the title is incorrect.

    • -2

You have to order and pay via the app

      • So the description in OP's post is incorrect?

        • Yeah, you can't just walk into a store and ask for the offer to be applied to your order unless you're a subcard member - which requires the app.
Even if you walk into a store and show the offer on the app, they will most likely ask you to make the order on the app itself for click and collect.

          • +1

@deathjr: The deal in the subway app has a QR code that the store can scan with their QR code scanner. It will apply the discount. I did so yesterday, allows you to pay with cash.

            • @D0OMZDAYZ: good to know, the stores near me don't allow that

  • My local does 2 for $18 after 5pm which works out cheaper unless im derping
