    FYI

Potenza Adrenaline RE003 215/50/R17 is around 219 each for members, very competitive price considering the services included.

    • +1

Agree, we had our tyres changed there late last year. We had a flat recently (caused by a metal screw). They repaired the tyre free of charge. Yay!

      • Good to know. I never know what type of services are included in the deal @ costco.

    • Do you know their rough cost for 255/45/R18 or 255/35/R18 RE003?

    • Odd ball sizes seem to pay a premium. Common sizes like 235/45R17 and 235/40R18 are much cheaper. Think someone paid $185ea for the 235/40R18 last year.

  • Why do my coupon emails come after a batch of people and not shown on the costco site yet?

    • I was looking for tyres deals and happened to see the coupons after lunch…

  • +1

This offer is NOT exclusive to Costco.

It is also available at other authorised retailers.

FYI, I found that Bob Jane was cheaper than Costco for my Potenza Adrenaline RE003.

Costco also don't do wheel alignments.

    • "Costco also don't do wheel alignments."
Really? They sell and fit tyres but don't do alignments? That's not good. Fitting time is certainly when you are most likely to want an alignment.

      • +1

You might be getting confused with a balance. Balance = ensuring the wheels and tyre weight is distributed evenly across the wheel, if not, they add the wheel weights. Alignment = making sure all the wheels are pointing the exact same direction.

I've never purchased tyres from Costco but have read they do not have alignment equipment.

        • +1

no he is right, a wheel alignment should be done with new tyres too…

        • @eciuj
"You might be getting confused with a balance."

No, but balancing is also an essential part of getting a new set of tyres. Do Costco at least do balancing?

        • @jdr:

Of course they would, it's done by the tyre fitter, whereas an alignment needs a mechanic and expensive machines.

        • +1

          @Tuba:
Most cars have very few adjustments anyway. If your current tyres arw worn evenly and doesn't veer off line, it's probably πŸ‘Œ

        • @Steptoe: True, and many have no rear wheel alignment at all yet arent cheaper to align, doesnt change that toe should be adjusted regularly. And fitting a new set of tyres, is probably a real good time to do it. Keep ot right, not fix when I see a problem. Savings on alignments will be offset by the loss of tyre by the time you notice it., its unlikely youre out there testing it mm to mm. More likely, the edges have lost half their tread and hard not to notice. I guess it depends on tyre prices.

        • @Tuba:
Toe only goes out of you hit things like gutters πŸ™‹

        • @Steptoe: Where do you buy these impervious super parts from? Im stuck with stock or superpro bushes and OEM tie rod ends. That and as I siad, I prefer not to ruin tyres to find I need a $40 alignment. Its a false economy.

While theyre often not easy adjustment, there are shims and various other methods of adjustment to camber and castor. At the very least, its responsible ownership.

        • @Tuba:
          😝
Well I've been trying to kill my current shoes for a while but they are treadwear 400 or so so taking their sweet time.

        • +1

@Steptoe: Bogan up and get a skid car…

      • Costco doesn't do wheel alignment. It's a $40-50 job elsewhere.

  • How much are Ecopia tyres there?

    • ecopia 215/60 16r are $127 each. It's the size I need so the only one I know.

  • Slightly off topic but for the automotive illiterate do the types of tyres (Potenza or Ecopia) matter or should I just buy whatever is cheapest?

    • +4

Tyre compound is usually geared towards durability or grip. Grippy tyres have a softer compound so typically wear faster, and vice versa for tyres geared towards long life. Do you want performance or economy? Just make sure you don't buy those rubbish brands. You want the best tyres you can afford as they are they only thing holding your car to the ground and could save your (or some elses) life.

    • +1

      Generally,

Ecopia for your usual everday cars like the Corolla, Mazda 3, Civics etc

Potenzas for performance sports cars like the WRX

  • -1

This deal is more like a duplicate of Buy 3 Tyres and Get The 4th FREE* Available on Bridgestone Ecopia, Potenza or Turanza Serenity Plus Tyres.

Unless OP can provide extact price compared to other retailers to show Costco is cheaper, this should be unpublished a duplicate.

    • I did a compare, Bridgestone service centre vs Jax vs Costco, for 215/50/R17 AE003, Costco is the cheapest.

      • I was in Costco on Monday. The deal is on.

My sister just purchased 4 Bridgestone Ecopia tyres for her Mazda 3 - they were $150 each at Bob Jane which was the cheapest non-Costco price she could find after shopping around a lot (sorry i dont know the exact model).

Costco price for the same tyres was about $131 fitted and balanced.

        Costco definitely way cheaper.

        • Hmm, I'm not sure if all ecopia tyres are the same, but from memory, bob Jane has them for 99 bucks each, and 4-for3 regularly.

Bought them for my honda jazz.

        • @cloudy:
          Tyre Sizes vary between cars.

        • @Steptoe:

Yea, that's obvious, but ecopia are small car tyres and the whole range at bob Jane is same price.

I actually kept the catalogue of bob Jane for reference.

        • @cloudy: Ecopia comes in a range of specs and even the E100 has a large range of different sizes (and likely very different prices). You may have missed the size spec on the catalogue which states 175/65/14 82H for $99. Mazda3 wheel sizes differ with the year and model but most fall into the 15-18" range iirc.

These buy 3 tyres and get one "free" are a con.

They never work out as a bargain, you can shop around and get 4 tyres for the same or cheaper.

    • +2

IDK, I changed about 8 tyres on two cars last year and both times I waited for a 4 for 3 offer and it beat any lowest price by FARRRRR FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAr

      • I've never seen one of these deals work out cheaper, ever.

And I was also in the industry for a couple of decades, it's the oldest trick there is.

Happy to stand corrected if anyone can show me differently.

        • I noticed with Bridgestone tyres they never jacked up the prices for the sales (Potenza R03) and I just waited a few months for the sale as I expected them about twice a year. Maybe with other brands it might not work out but it seems like without manufacturer deals there is only a few $ to play around with the Potenzas anyway.

  • Would I be correct in guessing that you only get the 4th tyre for no additional charge but still have to pay fitting, disposal, etc fees for that 4th tyre?

    • Bridgestone has a $10-15 charge written but don't rhink they enforce it as others aren't.

  • Back in December, Bridgestone had the buy 3 tyres get the 4th one free and that coincided with the Amex Bob Jane offer, that was a good deal. But the buy 3 get the 4th free deal is now pretty standard.

    • You don't get anything for free, it's just a sales pitch.

  • As others have said, Costco don't do wheel alignment.
I found that their prices aren't any cheaper than Bob Jane or Jax. The only benefit is that they use nitrogen to fill the tyres which supposedly holds the pressure better than normal air. However, you will need to go back to them if you ever want to put air in the tyres again, which they do FOC but just annoying.

Also time is money. To need to wait for Costco to fit the tyres, then drive somewhere else and get them to do a wheel alignment… double waiting time.
And being a wheel alignment customer only vs someone buying tyres, you will definitely be at the bottom of their 'to do list'.

    • Plenty of places that specialise in high accuracy wheel alignments (usually suspension shops with racing pedigrees). If you can, take your car to one of those rather than having the average tyre fitter do it

      • rather than having the average tyre fitter do it

Tyre fitters only do balancing, they cannot do wheel alignments.

That has to be done by a qualified mechanic.

    • Air is 78% nitrogen. Available free at all good servos.

Just be careful with the Costco pricing and shop around. During this promo they quoted me $1050 for 4 x Re003 in 245/35/19.

Beaurepairs quoted me $885 fitted. So Costco was $165 more. That's quite a difference.

I told Costco about the other quote I received and they weren't interested in altering their quote.

    • Kmart or JAX would beat it

      • Funnily enough, I recall Kmart advertising that they pricematch.

Only the other day, the shop told my dad that they only price match on items they STOCK. They won't match prices for tyres they need to order in.
Figure that one… guess I didn't read their fine print!

        • My local said they would match even if they had to order in πŸ€”

    • Look at the bigger picture, free Nitrogen refill, free tyre rotation. That it self will cover all the price difference. Where would you get all that for free?

      • +1

Many tyre places do free rotation.

        • Some examples would be helpful. Even the stealerships do not do free 4 tyre rotation. Forgot to mention free puncture repair which is worth lot of money if you know the prices and Bridgestone has quoted me upto $50. So the gap is being narrow down. Anyway my next full tyre change will be with Costco but YMMV.

        • @some_one_some_where:

          Nitrogen refill

Which I believe doesn't do much for passenger cars.

        • @some_one_some_where: just ask the retailer, if that service is of value to you - it's a highly competitive industry and if they want your business they'll sort something out. Rotation/inspection has been part of my last two purchases at Bob Jane, who were significantly cheaper on Bridgestone tyres than the Bridgestone Select outlets themselves. The advertised price at Bridgestone was THE price, end of story. Pretty obvious they had no room to move or were bound by franchise rules.

I have no problem with Costco, in fact they were competitive on price for the tyres I wanted but couldn't match Bob Jane, which is conveniently located only 10 minutes away from my home.

The thing with tyre purchases is to ALWAYS ring around and make sure the price includes everything you want. It also pays to have a few brands and sizes as options. Dealers have various deals with importers so will often give you a better price on a tyre/size they have plenty of.

        • @Possumbly:

Rotation/inspection has been part of my last two purchases at Bob Jane

Many moons ago when I worked for them they gave out service booklets with tyres.

The first rotation and balance is free, then the rest are discounted.

Not sure if they still do that, probably not.

The advertised price at Bridgestone was THE price, end of story. Pretty obvious they had no room to move or were bound by franchise rules.

          Bob Jane are also franchise.

        • @Scab: I know BJ are franchises Scab. I was speculating on the reason for Bridgestone Select outlets being uncompetitive on Bridgestone tyres during the 4/3 sales. Only reason I can see is that either they don't get the same deal on wholesale tyres from the importer or they are bound by franchiser rules to keep within certain parameters. Could be entirely wrong. My local BJ might simply have lower margins or were happy to shift the size I wanted.

You could be right about the one free rotation. I didn't check my booklet because I prefer to do it myself. They overtightened my wheel nuts once and that was more than enough to keep me on the DIY path.

I always said that there should be a price tag to compare otherwise this is just scam and definitely poisoning the ozbargain community but looks ozbargain could not care less about the damage that is ruining its credibility as long as there is just another post sockpuppeted to the front page!

  • Does anyone buy these tyres to get a good deal and store them at home for when you need them? Or are people just lucky enough to need 4 new tyres at the time of these bargains?
The last time I had to buy tyres was when I got knocked back for a pink slip so I just had to buy whatever was out there…
Just wondering if I should save for a rainy and whether anyone else does..

    • They come up a couple times a year, so I'd guess people just wait it out.

Keep in mind if you buy and store you'll have to pay for fitting (and disposal) later. Not sure if they would provide a discount for supply only.

    • Change your tyres when they hit the legal tread wear indicators (little blocks between the tread), or soon after. That gives you plenty of time to shop around or wait for the regular sales. Waiting until they're at knockback point could cost you a heavy fine not to mention the obvious safety risks.
