    • +1

sell after 12 months at ~65% of full original price and update to new phone.

  • TRS?

You can't claim refund on GST if you don't pay for in the first place.

      • -8

It depends on whether the invoice has the GST amount.

        • That's true but this would be a Kogan Smith direct import it appears. Especially when the shipping is $45.

    Nothing to say,

Probably worthy to mention it's grey import.

I have a 7. Wife has a 6. Close to no difference as far as we are concerned. Save $ for next iphone.

    • Agree, I'm working on a 3-4 year upgrade cycle at the moment. Waited for the iPhone 4, as it had the Retina display, got the iPhone 6+ as it seemed to be the next quantum leap, will wait to see if the iPhone 8 is the next logical jump step, otherwise will wait again. I mostly use my iPad mini4 and the phone is just for things I need the SIM for. It also makes a good hotspot for the iPad as well.

    • I'm waiting until kogan / dicksmith does the 7 S 32gb again they had it for $995 when they had the ebay 20% off promo just before christmas….. hope they can repeat.

Memory isn't such a big deal …. you backup your device anyway and a lot of content doesn't get accessed, and how many apps are really used regularly . How man times do you watch the same episode of games of thrones or walking …… you watch it and erase it.

I tend to clean up my phone so I can find stuff quicker anyway .

Optus now include spotify, pandora, inherit and netflix streaming without it coming off your data plan also.

My main storage hog on my phone is music.

      • Why wouldnt you want the ability to use a 200GB micro sd card for just a bit more?

      • +1

        is there an iphone 7s?

Wife has a 6. Close to no difference as far as we are concerned.

Is this what you told her when she wanted to swap?

  • Do these imported phones have all the bands of the local product?

    • The HK phone has the faster qualcomm chip, over the slower intel chip in the AU version.

    • Apple have international clientele so the phone has the Australian bands, rather than make lots of models, apple make one model for global market. In the USA some are carrier locked if you buy from carrier as contracted, or have a carrier specific band enabled in the USA for wher phone is contracted.

Rest of the world you are good to go.

Feel free to correct me. last time I check, Apple Australia will not officially support grey imported iPhone. It has to be send back to country of purchase.

    • You won't be organising this however, Dick Smith (Kogan) will send you out a label and you post it back to them, which they then repair or replace.

iPhones have 1 year global warranty - so they'll honour your warranty for the first year the same way they would honour Australian stock.

What you will miss out on is the extra 1 year that is imposed by Australian Consumer Law.

      • Yes and no. Apple voluntarily agreed to provide that given the expectations in the law - after numerous claims against them.

As Apple likely won't offer for non-AU product, you'd have the same claim via Dick Smith/Kogan.

      • Apple no longer provides gloabl warranty for cell phones/pads, so you wont get any help from apple australia.

Furthermore your iphone is not protected by apple australia and australian law

        Source
IMPORTANT RESTRICTION FOR iPHONE AND iPAD SERVICE.
Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone and iPad to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device.

        • Apple has never provided global warranty for iPhones and iPads. I'm not sure what information OP relies on to say 1 year Apple warranty. Warranty from Kogan yes, from Apple maybe. I hope people don't buy iPhone from Kogan thinking they're 100% covered with Apple warranty.

        • @Sharp:

You are right. Very few companies offer "global warranty". And Apple isn't one of them.

        • @Sharp: Actually, Apple has. They provide 1 year global warranty for the iPhone - at least in practice.
Source: Apple staff members, more than a handful.

    • +2

      No,
Apple have global warranty. Where people get caught out is they dont't keep the American carrier locked models in Australia so they don't have spares hence "MAY restrict"

Buy a phone in France, Germany, UK, Singapore and if it's the same model they carry in Australia they will fix / replace it …. so USA carrier specific models are the problem.

One of the beauties of Apple if you travel a lot …… they look after you ….. probably why corporates like them ….. if your staff get off a plane they are covered.

      It's all about customer experience.

  • I'm looking at getting my first iPhone after using a Lumia 920 and then 930 for a few years. Should I be looking at a 6S or 7? They seem similar specs-wise just that I'd expect the 6S to be cheaper. The 6S seems harder to find new though.

    • Hmm..Daihatsu to BMW.Good on ya mate.

    • If you were to get the plus model, the 7plus is quite better than the 6splus. If you don't need the larger model, go for 6s.

    • You have waited long enough, so might wait few more months till the newer version comes, the new iPhone will be a major upgrade, as it will be 10th anniversary for apple since the original launch in 2007.

      • iPhone 8 is due in sep right?

        • Or a bit earlier..Dont see any reason to buy an iPhone now.

      • Apparently the iPhone 8 won't be available until early next year.. But iPhone 7's' might be on the cards come September.

  • Can anyone please shed any light on the issue of limited 4G LTE capability from these HK grey imports, specifically band 28 (700MHz) as raised in this thread…
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/265616

Was about to pull the trigger on an iphone se but now having doubts…

    ADDIT:
Just looked up vaya website vs dick smith.

The vaya iphones say "4G LTE" and list band 28 (700MHz) as included.
The dick smith / kogan ones do not include band 28 in the description on the website.

I've emailed vaya to confirm that their iphone se model includes it.
