  • It's grey stock

  • It's only 16gb (of which 11 - 12 is available to the user - most people wouldn't be able to get by with this. Personally, i have before)

  • It was released nearly 18 months ago

  • There are many Android phones on the market that far out-spec this phone for the same for less money

16gb will get chewed up in no time.

Depends on your usage. I did it with a Nexus 5x without any issues, and am currently doing it on my old Galaxy S5.

I don't do mobile gaming, which is a big reason for being able to get away with only 16gb. I use 15 - 20 apps, including Youtube, Netflix, Instagram, Facebook, Play Music and a heap of other Google first party apps. All my photos and videos are automatically uploaded to Google Photos when i'm on wifi and charging, and removed from local storage. I keep 2 - 3gb of music on my device at any given time.

I wouldn't want huge amounts of files stored locally on my phone without being backed up to the cloud, and i dont see the point in having huge amounts of files stored locally that are backed up to the cloud. I'm on wifi at home. I live in a metro area, almost always have a 4g connection, and have a fairly generous monthly mobile data allowance, so streaming on the go if needed isn't an issue for me.

I absolutely get why 16gb isn't enough for a lot of people, but for me it is.

      • For me it is too. I don't do games and music I stream.

Only thing that takes up space Is photos which I import every few months

      • Exactly
I can't see how people get a 256gb Iphone 7 then whinge and bitch when uploads take 3 months to complete backing them up because they are on ADSL1 or Cable lol, Or they don't even have 256gb of free space on their laptop or desktop and then cry when it breaks down and Apple format their data because they didn't have a backup

Until Australian internet speeds improve ten fold, you are better off with a smaller size device to upload and backup quicker
16gb isn't a lot of space but its more than adequate

  • Do you get an authentic Australia charger?

  • How bout a little love for them 64gb 128gb Plus models? 16GB is nothing these days.

    • its enough for basic usage / work phone

  • Pity it is only 16GB

  • My wife copes with a 5s that is 16gb.
Would this suit or does the 5s use less storage for the iOS?

nope the larger the screen, the bigger the app size (especially apps with lots of graphics as everything has to be scaled up).

Photos and videos are also larger - 12MP vs. 8MP; 6s captures video in 4k (approx. 350MB per minute) vs. 5s' 1080p (approx. 130MB per minute). Sure, you can set video recording to 1080p in 6s but it's reassuring to know you have the space should you want to shoot in 4k.

IMO just get the 32GB from Apple if your wife is a light user. It's a newer variant compared to the 16GB (which is no longer produced by Apple). If price is a concern ($929), i suggest you stuff your ears and sing real loud immediately after handing over the credit card.

  • Does this come with a 12mth apple global warranty or just a DWI warranty?

    • Apple's global warranty doesn't apply to iPhone. 12 month RTB warranty.

      • Kogan Iphone's come with "1 Year Worldwide Apple Warranty" and they are grey imports so DWI isn't the same?

        • "Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone and iPad to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device."

        • @aja12:

          Okay thanks

        • @aja12:

May, doesn't mean they will and from memory never had an issue with grey import in Australian stores
if its apple and its faulty they will fix it to keep the customer happy
technically speaking if you do get a new device swapped, wouldn't that be now Australian stock :)

        • @shawncro 222: all depends where you got it from. Up to 12 months is fine then other factors come into play

you wish. I know from firsthand experience that Apple would only swap a malfunctioning device with the exact product code, which show the original intended market.

Otherwise the phone would be no different than Australian stock and you'd be eligible for the extra 1 year warranty under Australian consumer guarantee.
