Better off getting a Xiaomi Mi Box which can also do Netflix in 4k.

    • What is the issue?

  • Is this player a faster unit than the Xiaomi Mi Box?

  • Finally, a box that can play true 4K with H265 HEVC. Bought, thanks.

  • How is the H265 HEVC playback?

    • i've got an s96, if its a usb stick then its great even HDR, etc. but since the LAN is limited to 100Mbps on that its quite crappy if i try to dlna stream, this model overcomes that by having gigabit lan

      • 100mbps? isnt there gigabit ethernet now

Anyone know how I would be able to get a whole lot of international TV channels for free?

    • By flying around the world with and watching it?

      • I remember back in the day you could install a large (~3m) satellite dish and basically receive any channels in the world without a monthly subscription. Was hoping for the same option without the satellite dish due to space constraint.

S912 chips and kodi don't play well together. Poor Android support for these boxes are their downfall.
You are better off buying an S905 or S905x box and loading Libreelec. Hassle free media and audio playback
for all files including H265 HEVC 10bit.

    • Had an s905 for a few years and can completely back this up.

You can get them for ~$40 on Aliexpress these days, and they're more than enough for openelec to run smoothly and playback H265 HEVC.

I've had Amlogic boxes for 5 years or so (M3, MX, MX2, MXQ) and have had excellent luck with them all.

The OP's listed box is fast but total overkill for Kodi/Openelec, (though gb LAN is nice) plus Kodi support currently isn't yet where it needs to be.

      • +xdirex. I doubt kiarod will answer, so I'll ask you.
What is the issue with Android and the S912?

    • Do you have a link of where to download Libreelec and also if possible some simple instructions on how to do it.

      Thanks

      • download and info from here

        • Thank you. Will give it a go on my Vega S95.

    • I have applied for my order cancellation and will get the s905x instead. Thank you for the info. Is the 3g version over killed?

      • Just make sure you get a 2GB version,Kodi has some memory leak dramas at times with 1GB.

        • Is the 3GB version over killed? Some article say the S905 is faster than the S905x.

        • @Bargain Zombies: what box are you looking at?

        • @kiarod: Beelink m18 2/16gb.

    • What is the issue with Kodi? Or is it the Android Port? What is the issue with Android support considering it is a fairly mainstream chip?
I have had a look around the web and haven't noticed any detail on this issue.

I'm not sure whether I can recommend cheap Android Boxes anymore from poor experience with another model (MXQ 4K) - preloaded with a LOT of adware that you cannot get rid of unless you reflash the ROM. APKs will just automatically install for no reason and Ad's just fly around when I'm watching IPTV.

    • You are basing ALL Android set top boxes on ONE unit, from ONE suppler. What format do these ads that fly around take, while using Kodi?

      Amazing reasoning.

      • I was talking about my personal experience with one that I happen to buy from Geekbuying as well. Warning to other people that some Android boxes such as the one I received has Malware on it.

The ROM itself has a hidden background process that would regularly download APKs in the background that would display advertising randomly. Nothing to do with Kodi (Did I even mention Kodi?), Nothing to do with the IPTV app. It was basically the same ads as you find in various ad-driven applications that will come up and requiring you to close them before your own app would resume. When you look at the app list, it will appear as though an app got installed, usually spoofing other well known app names in an attempt to hide itself.

        • Out of the thousands of MXQ 4K's sold that's the first I've heard of adware being on it.

        • If you believe in God is very relevant to any statements anyone makes. It makes it easier to realise the form of logic used, and how the discussion is progressing.Check it out. It is in politics, news, everything. Not allowing for this is the major cause of misunderstanding in our society.

  • Thank you geekbuying in assisting me to change my purchase to a different model/unit.

  • Wow, I have received my TV box today via TNT. Thank you very much.

    • Good to hear. Amazing what happens when you pay a little bit extra for express ;)
