  • Model's discontinued… how many are in stock?

    • +1

We are expecting that we have enough stock for the promotion period.

      • I just wanna say I didn't neg this comment.

Thankyou for assuring me this wasn't a low stock level clearance.

  • I would get this if I had 1300 on me… :(

  • +2

Not a great resolution to match the specs of the laptop. 1366 x 768 not great for Blu-ray.

    • I would've got one if the resolution is better.. :p
Only ASUS and Dell are offering higher resolutions these days :(

      • I believe Sony have Full HD resolution on some of their laptops as well.

    • Yeah actually i noticed the low res…(by today's standards)

  • not a bad deal at all pretty decent for a top of range laptop.

hp. Was a fan but never again.

  • +2

Hp laptops heat up fast (so i always hear the fan), never going for hp ever again.

    • yeah! i remember when i was studying in the library and this guy in front of me has a HP laptop, and his laptop's fan noise is just sooo loud! i moved away from that study area. lol

      • Lol bad laptop to bring to the library. Therefore no one should buy hp laptops,go for Asus or dell

  • +1

i remember people talked a lot about the serious quality issue of hp's laptops. does hp still suffer for its poor quality?

    • if i remember right its a 1/4 chance it will break down it will break down in 3 years. for hp.

    • My $2000 DV9000 (DV95??) now collecting dust, no recall for their serious issue, and needs $1000+ for fix. and would not last more than 1 and half year after fix.

      NO HP.

  • Why 1366x768, oh why 1366x768????

    • Why? Because it's cheaper.

      • There's a very large increase in cost price when you go from 1366x768 to 1600x900, which explains why the majority of 15 inch laptops only have the former.

They could of course build a 15 inch laptop with a 1400x900 resolution or thereabouts (as was the case with the 2007 generation Macbook Pro), but that would result in a 16:10 aspect ratio. I would personally prefer a 16:10 AR though.

  • Why bother with Blu-Ray and an Nvidia GPU? Without a PAP (Protected Audio Path) you can't get the high-def audio to your stereo/receiver via HDMI.

I bought this notebook back in April at JB for $1299 with an extended 3 year warranty (via my haggling powers).

    Pros:
    - Love the black colour (not the swirls though)
    - Keyboard is very nice to type on.
    - Touchpad is very good - a massive improvement to the previous DV6's sticky touchpad.
    - Good sound from the speakers (however not the best)
    - Blu-ray Burner and TV Tuner
    - A vast variety of ports available
    - i7 processor which is extreamly fast - equivelent to that of a Desktops Q6600 CPU
    - Relatively light

    Cons:
    - 32bit Windows and bloatware that comes along with it. I'd strongly suggest doing a fresh install of windows.
    - It's noisy as hell, not to mention HOT (55'C Idle in a 10'C Room) ——- not looking forward to summer…
    - The Entire notebook is a fingerprint magnet, however if you are clean (and don't sweat) then it shouldn't be a problem.
    - Looks a bit girly due to the swirls
    - Out of the box screen contrast is…..well poor to say the least (I wasn't expecting something incredible but still..). The Blacks were grey and the colours appeared to be washed out. However, if you calibrate the screen in control panel it should be fine.
    - Short battery life: Less than 30min when stressed and about 1 and a half hours when doing basic tasks i.e word processing, internet browsing (no youtube, videos etc)
    - The HP LED Logo at the back is annoying particularly at night - thankfully it can be disabled by unscrewing 2 screws and detaching the logos power cable.
    - Massive 120W Powerbrick - if you don't know what it looks like simply go on ebay and type in 120W HP power brick for an idea.
    - Keyboard not backlit. It also doesn't match the design of the notebook particularly in sunlight due to the matte texture (almost a grey colour) which makes it look tacky.
    - A 12 Cell battery cannot support the imense power of the notebook. It will do an instant shutdown once you do something intense i.e. encoding or watching HD videos - even the stock 6 Cell has this problem. To overcome this, you must use the powersaver mode.

Overall this notebook is good particularly for the price. I have my notebook plugged in 98% of the time, so the battery issue is not really a big concern for me.

    • u got a pretty good deal though.. but the cons u've noted are a shame

do u know if this model uses an MXM graphics card?

    • +1

55C idle for what? CPU or GPU? If CPU that's a bit hot but if GPU then that's perfectly normal.

      • It's the CPU.

        • -2

          No its GPU!

          • @some_one_some_where: ?

Well my machine (temps via speedfan) indicates that the CPU is idling steadily around ~54-55'C where as the GPU is slightly higher 57'C

            • @Hirokuro: Hmm well it's an i7 so I suppose it's expected to run a bit hotter.

            • @Hirokuro: seems a bit high considering its winter.. my i5 idles @ 39-40.. and 5650 gpu @ 36-39.. but this is on an Acer 5820TG

Not buying another one of these after the graphics cards problems with my last one… and i expect better build quality for something i am going to pay $1200+ for

    DO NOT BUY HP!!!

I spend $2000 for a DV9000, graphic cards broken in 14 month, and search on internet, a lot DVXXXX got same problem, more than 1000 HP user post same issue in HP suport, HP never give them answer, HP should recall all DVXXXX like ACER or DELL. but HP choose to ignore. very very unhappy, very bad service.

I call them, told I have to send my DV9000 back, change a mainborad, I think this will cost me $1000+.

  • and it makes noise, fans never stop.

  • The DV9000 problem is a fault with Nvidia, it affected other manufacturers besides HP. HP are one of the only manufacturers who have acknowledged the problem. Most other manufacturers have ignored it.

    • I do not think so, HP have not recall DV seriously and never reply complain. some other manufacturers did recall in my knowledge.

  • Sometimes you're just better off buying a Macbook at these prices. Sure they are expensive, but after 3 years they only depreciate by 50-60% after selling it on ebay (Even more so for Macbook Pros), some people are nuts when buying them 2nd hand.

  • Got the same model from OW for $1198 last month

  • DV series are baddd…seriously, dont buy this model

  • WARNING WARNING!! I see most people here are experiencing the same kind of problems… My warning is of the Retailer Digital Star! They have terrible service and don't want to know you after you've purchased something from them… Read here for further info http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/22531

I'm convinced, I'll never be buying from digital star! Thanks for the notice.

I did buy a laptop and some accessories from this guy before, one of the girl served me alright. I got a problem to install a driver for the add on card,, I brought back and they help me to fix the conflict for free. Actually, I will recommend this shop to my friends. They provided reasonable good service and no store is perfect (I had lots of bad experience with other stores, lodged a few complains to fair trading. but they are not one of them), you wont' get good service from hardly normal even you pay much higher price.
