2016 Suzuki Baleno GL Automatic - $16,990 Drive Away (Was $17,990) (+ $500 for Premium Paint) @ Suzuki (Excludes QLD)

82

Baleno GL just took out 2016 Best Light Car by RAC, NRMA etc, ahead of Mazda2 Neo and Kia Rio, among others.

$500 more for metallic paint (any colour other than Pearl White)

  • Reverse Camera
  • Multimedia System with Bluetooth, Voice Control, Apple CarPlay (and soon to be Android Auto)
  • Cruise Control
  • Privacy Glass
  • 5yrs/100,000km Capped Price Servicing which gives you a 5yr/140,000km Extended Factory Warranty (See here for Capped Price Servicing costs)

Really good value for money imo and even if you compare it to the next class (i30 etc).

Made in India, where Suzuki has ~48% market share, selling just over 1 million units locally in 2016! About equal with the whole of the Aussie car market!

And of course, there is some wiggle room in that if you talk nicely to your local dealer :)

Oh and of course Officeworks will take a price-match ;)

    • -6

      Officeworks don't sell cars.

You must be fun at parties….

        • Only when people are bold and incessantly loud.

  • Thanks OP was just in the market for one of these! Offer so good I have decided to get 10.

    Cheers.

  • That RACV worst-rating-next-to-Peugot for warranty, dealer access and insurance is a little worrying.

    • The problem is that on paper, Suzuki has a 3yr warranty as standard. So if you get the car serviced at Kmart, Automasters, your local mechanic etc, you get a 3yr/100,000km warranty
By doing the 5yrs CPS that warranty gets extended to 5yrs/140,000km, which (I'm guessing) would give it more points if it was a standard thing)

    • Peugeot was offering some 8-9 year warranty on their 2015 models I think. Are the new Peugeots better than previous models ? I had 407 v6 for 6 months, never again

      • It is one of best car, just unfortunately in Garage not on the road.

        • I had a 407 V6 - perhaps you bought mine when I traded it or perhaps mine was yours before you traded it……it was by far the most mechanically unreliable car I have ever owned. Mine actually broke down while driving past the Pug dealership once, I nursed it straight into a service bay it stayed there for about a month waiting for parts from France…..

        • @jason101: I feel your pains mate, one of my friend got a 206 convertible, literally the first 206 land in here, end up 8 months either his garage or Pug's waiting for parts, after he brought for 5 years which used less than 1 year on road, they sent message and asked for regular service and my friend text them dealer's address and ask them if they can move his car to service, what a great sense of doing business, now they team up with Missze so they can change their slogan "Love that crap…"

        • @dlovep: I had similar kind of issue. Went to shopping centre and it just died and won't start.Fortunately, my dad helped me diagnose and I ended up soldering a new relay.
Sold it the next month. Never again

    • I have answered my comment myself. Nvm

You think $1000 off a new car is a bargain? Have you ever negotiated the purchase of a new car? Ozbargainers are not that gullible!

    • -8

This is $1,000 off a sale price, not RRP. I would hope you'd know the difference.

    this isn't ozrrp.com.au

I need a post like this for a Kia cerato or hyundai i30

    • You are probably aware that a release for the next generation i30 is imminent.
As such you would expect Hyundai will tip the old gen units out the door with a hot incentive and hold out for full price on the new gen for 6 months or so.

    • Amen to this, give me a deal for a cerato for end of the quarter

Somewhere in my mind I think the new Octavia 2016 would be good too, with the AEB and Adaptive Cruise control as a standard, but VW DSG parts :(

      • +1

Just get manual and avoid DSG worries. Manual + 110tsi is a great combo.

        • yeah I was thinking the same too, need to get used to manual, I've always driven automatics even though I ride motorbikes :(

Other than that the DSG in Skoda is a far cry from the ones that caused all the issues it seems

  • Made in India

Interesting, from memory the Swifts are now made in Japan. I had assumed the rest of the range was too.

Spackbace - out of interest do you know where the other models are made?

    • Not a European company, so I'd assume anything with a VIN starting with J is actually made in Japan (Euro companies use the country designation for their headquarters). Alto was made in India, so I'd assume the Celerio is to.

    • +2

      Current line-up:

      Celerio - India
      Swift - Japan
      Ignis - Japan
      Baleno - India
      Vitara - Hungary
      S-Cross - Hungary
      Grand Vitara - Japan

          @bm:

          Altavista?

        • Can be difficult I'll admit, car companies are getting shady on their Build Plates.

As an example, looked at one on the new Holden Trax the other day, which we all know is Korean… no identifier on the Build Plate, just a QR code

        • @Spackbace: did you scan the code?

        • @PVA:

          Nope lol

Only $1k off RRP. No deal. I can easily negotiate for this any day.

    • You have to remember that not everyone can negotiate. Some people may consider this a deal.

      • +1

If you can't negotiate you deserve paying extra :)

        • I can negotiate. We've bought 3 cars in the last 2 years and all have been a minimum discount of 15%. :)

    • This means the dealers are getting more money back from Suzuki so they essentially have $500 to $1000 more negotiating room before they hit break even on this car (depending on whether Suzuki pays the full $1000 difference to the dealer or whether they split it $500 each.)

So yes, it is a bargain.

I don't quite understand this deal. I'm not sure if you're using ozB as a platform to advertise, although I can clearly see you won't get anything out of it. So that's why I'm really confused. At the same time, I feel like this isn't a good deal - I've seen you post a lot on this website Spackbace - and you know how cynical people are about deals. So I'm a bit confused…

In terms of this deal, I don't see how it is different from purchasing it any other time of the year. Even your comment : "And of course, there is some wiggle room in that if you talk nicely to your local dealer :)" - it just means, this isn't the best price. Go ask for a deal and you'll do better.

I could see it being listed for $20k with on roads and most people would be able to driveaway for about $17k… so again, really confused why you posted this deal if it isn't one and you know the ozbargain community better than almost everyone.

See that's the thing with car deals right, it always brings out the Eddie the Experts (and that isn't aimed at you btw). Forget the fact that anyone can negotiate on whitegoods, electrical etc, people will still happily up-vote a cheap TV deal because it's made their negotiation a lot easier (or effectively the company has 'negotiated' for the customer). Cars are a different story. There's always some armchair expert, an article, whatever, telling you that 20-25% off is a reasonable amount, always start at that figure… fact is it's just not true.

Now I'm bound by corporate rules that I can't advertise for my dealership on here, or advertise a price better than current sales (learnt that the hard way too lol), so any Suzuki/Holden deal I post on here will always be at sale price.

$16,990 drive away for an automatic has only come into effect this month. So no, this isn't RRP, so let's move on from that one.

As to negotiation amounts, well anyone who knows anything in the car industry knows that in order to reduce the price, the car company increases bonuses to the dealer to get to that amount. By increasing the bonuses, they also lower the price you could effectively negotiate to. Now we sold one the other day below cost, other dealers may be willing to do the same, it's entirely up to them, but I'm certainly not going to post a deal for a below-cost price now am I? That would just be stupid.

I can tell you that one of these at what it owes (including loads etc) is around the $16,500 mark. So we're certainly not making a lot of commission out of them, not going out and buying a new house every month.

I just saw it as a good value for money car at a price that it has never been since launch. Never. Not once. And if people want to negotiate below that they certainly can, but that can be said about most purchases in life and many products that front page on here.

      • I just saw it as a good value for money car at a price that it has never been since launch. Never. Not once. And if people want to negotiate below that they certainly can, but that can be said about most purchases in life and many products that front page on here. - fair enough that makes sense - trying to do your part by contributing to the forum. I genuinely believe you.

I 100% agree with you that the amount you can negotiate is always different depending on a variety of factors. In general though, it is widely accepted that you haven't done well if you've paid RRP. This felt like a $1k below RRP post which in some cars is nothing (But for this car as you've said it's decent) - and hence all the questions.

        • This felt like a $1k below RRP post - and hence all the questions.

I know, and such is the nature of the business that everyone thinks you've got a lot of commission in the cars… Certainly not the case for new cars, and <$30k cars at that!

        • @Spackbace:

Exactly. Go blame Audi for giving everyone unrealistic expectations.

I bought an A3 Audi Sedan a while back for $39k driveaway that was RRP $52k.

I'm sure BMW/Mercedes etc are the same too…

The euro guys seem to post really high RRP's and make you feel like a hero when you've bought a car for $10k below RRP - but that's just the norm now unfortunately. The Japanese automakers seem to post realistic RRP's and don't deviate too much from it.

        • @Tech and cars:

Yeah and they get big bonuses on demos, so their demos are massively reduced compared to RRP

        • +1

          @Spackbace:

I think that business model works well for them. Most people don't have an OzB mentality and I know people who are too proud to ask for a discount and own cars in European luxury car segment. So for every guy that buys the car for cheap, there are 5 others who paid close to full RRP… Lol (idiots).

        • @Spackbace: So what sort of price would you expect to negotiate a 2016 kia cerato with AV pack to? Or even a 2016 hyundai i30? Just curious if there is much room to move in prices. Pm me if you prefer. Thanks

        • @kimba88:

I don't work for Hyundai so I couldn't tell you.

        • @Spackbace: Ahh ok. No worries. If you have any mates that work for Kia or Hyundai.. Get them on here! Please :-) Haha

Just curious what is a very good price I could negotiate a Vitara for then?

      • Too much bs for me to read

        • +2

Sorry I guess my comment was aimed at someone who could read. I guess I don't have it in picture book form.

    • -3

Because it's blatant advertising and not even the cheapest price by his own admission.

      • No item is ever posted as it's lowest price.

Groceries - buy discounted Wish cards to get it cheaper
TVs - always room to negotiate

I could go on. How many items that hit the front page can't be further discounted? I'm just one of the few reps that state I would take a lower offer, such is the nature of the business.
