Free Velocity Reward Points (7 Million Points Shared Equally between Registrants) from Velocity

3610

Velocity are giving away 7 million points to members who enter their details and velocity membership number. Everyone is guaranteed to receive points and the same amount (split evenly between everyone who registers). For example if 100,000 members register then each member receives 70 points (7,000,000 divided by 100,000). Numbers are rounded up (no decimal places).

Runs for 48 hours, 21/2 3pm - 23/2 3pm. The point amount will be announced 9 April (and credited shortly after I'd imagine).

*Note that you are consenting to receive promotional material, thanks cola2002.

  • Velocity has at least 3 millions members
But I don't have the date of this news.
    https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/ProgramBenefit…

If everything sign up, everyone will receive 3 points (The point is rounded up).

  • Velocity has likely close to 5 million members - it hit 4 million in Feb 2014.

    https://www.virginaustralia.com/au/en/about-us/media/2014/VE…

So if everyone entered, we'd each get… 2 points!

    • +5

You didn't go the link did you.. they hit 7 million members, that's why they are giving away 7 million points.

      • -8

        its a phishing scam

      • D'oh! Definitely over 5 million then.

Guess they're giving everyone 1 point for their celebration. ;-)

    • -5

      I also did the same.

They have advised me that they're contacted the police re the fraudulent website.

    • +1

How it could be scam when listed on their official facebook page?

      • -3

Anyone can make an "official" Facebook page, purporting to be any company they like.
Like Albert Einstein once said, "don't believe everything you read on the internet ".

        • +1

And the fact that the Virgin Australia FB page likes the Velocity FB page?
Or that it's linked to from the Velocity website too?

          Take your trolling elsewhere.

        • jaffadog: I don't believe you.

  • +2

Lucky I used my fake email account in the name of Kim Jong Un.

  • I wouldn't touch anything from ROKT, they do the comps at the end of eBay when you make a purchase, they are just a marketing company.

    • +1

Same, for the few points you're likely to get - it's not worth it.
I made the mistake once of going through ROKT, won't do it again.

  • Crap, I signed up before there were enough comments.

Is there anyway to reverse it? I used my proper velocity email too. Can't believe I got done.

    • +4

It's a legitimate promotion, confirmed by verified Velocity Facebook and Twitter.

Edit 23/2: It's also advertised on the Velocity home page https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com

      • +3

They're probably just trying to cry phishing to make other people not enter so they can get more points haha.

  • +8

    Jaffadog really wants his points…

  • +1

Very dodgy but signed up anyway

  • check their facebook page. though it looks dodgy it is legit.

  • Yes it is a legit comp but through an outsourced marketing company that use your details for all sorts of marketing purposes.

  • +1

Well with all the clicks on the page looks like we will be owing them points

  • Will not accept a legitimate Australia postcode with 4 digits! 0.o

  • -6

I don't understand why you shared this here unless you're associated with this company?

    • +1

Because we at OzBargain like things for free. Who wouldn't say no to some free VFF points?

I don't understand why you felt the need to leave a negative comment. I'd neg you for it but I've negged too many people in this deal within 24hrs.

    • +2

Because it's a nice thing to do for the community that's given so much towards saving money for him/us.

Considering you've been in the community for so long why would you ask that?

      • The reason I ask this question is because it's a diminishing return for the individual the more people sign up while the only people to really gain from this is the company collecting data.

While it may seem "free" the payment you're making isn't monetary.

        • I'm already a VFF member so I haven't "made any payment" in any form, they already had my details.

        • @bricabrac89: that's true but VFF can't sell your details or use it for anything other than what you agreed to when you signed up but this company you're giving details to isn't VFF

wow some people are dumb enough to put their details into anything…. Registrar: CRAZY DOMAINS FZ-LLC

    crazydomains for alllllllll!!!!!!

edit: i looked up rokt pte ltd.. and they seem legit.. however that doesnt mean much.

i would have thought virgins IT dept would issue them a cert to be able to control the promo and their own asses…

so it seems dodge to me.

    • +1

      "some people are dumb"
"they seem legit.. however that doesnt mean much"

      OK mate.

    • +1

i would have thought virgins IT dept would issue them a cert to be able to control the promo and their own asses…

Why? It's a separate domain so the owners of virginaustralia.com or virgin.com have no say in it. If you register a domain called microsoftkillswombats.com, you don't need to get a cert from Microsoft.

Obviously a marketing campaign outsourced to an overseas company.

  • Even if this isn't a scam, if more than 7 million people registered, that's less than 1 point each. Rounded down, no one gets any

    • Whilst it wouldn't happen, if every member or even all of Australia registered you'd still get 1 point. As stated in the post it's rounded up so minimum is 1.

    • They round up.

      • Even you get 1 point, it extends the validity of your existing points by 24 months. It is good for infrequent velocity point earners.

        • Don't forget that you also get spam emails too :)

Mods: threads like this are why we need more than 5 downvotes per day.

  • The site will not accept my membership number anyway, so care factor is zero.

    • But you cared enough to comment though ;-)

  • Is it just me or are there 2 'hidden' fields on that form?
When you go to email you can press 'tab' 3 times before it gets to the 'postcode' field.

Maybe don't use autocomplete if you have that enabled on your browser

  • When do we find out how many points we get?

    • Have you tried reading the description above?

      • I read the link that said prior to 9 April and thought someone may have a facebook update.

  • +3

Can I just say, I am a Velocity Member and I didn't enter, just so other members who entered can take my one point.

Because I am nice guy :)

  • So what did everyone get?

  • Received 200 points.

    • So that's about 0.5% of the total membership pool, or around 35,000 people signed up for the points.

  • 200 points credited yesterday.

  • They announced on facebook that 35, 000 members signed up, meaning 200 points each.

  • Got my 200 points yesterday, thanks OP!

  • Got my 200 points in my account - not a phishing scam at all.

  • I received 200 from a pooled account, but not my own account.

  • Checked my account today, 200 points. Meaning only 35k people signed up for this.

  • From the e-mail I got the other day:
"We had an incredible response with 35,574 members entering, which would have meant everyone would have received 196.7 Velocity Points each."
