I know you haven't listed it, the digital deadbolt door lock seems like a good buy as well for $80?

    • Cheers, edited the description.

  • +3

Note these aren't compatible with Aldi's other range of cordless tools - they are 20V, not 24V like this hammer drill.

    • +2

Proper brands rate their batteries at 18V, ie 3.6V/cell.
Using 4V reminds me of the old PMPO power specs.

      • +5

so many brands are jumping on that marketing wank, dewalt does it too.

  • +3

It has been a long time since the last post about power tools…. After Masters closed…

  • Thanks - was trying to find out what are the deals without walking into the store.

  • +1

Any thoughts on the laser levels on page 13?

    • +1

      yes?

  • Anyone had any experience with the suction vice and or table vice?

    • +1

I bought a vice lasr time and it is shit. Totally unusable

      • Did you return it? Aldi have a 60 day satisfaction guarantee on Special Buys.

        • No I didn't return it because it was >60 days after I bought it that I needed to use it properly.

They seem OK when you buy them but it's when you go to use it for a project that you realise it's not a quality solution.

        • @llama: You could have still returned it, because under Aus consumer law if a product isn't fit for purpose you are entitled to a refund.

      • Thanks for saving me a trip.

    • +4

They won't hold against heavy torque, but the lockpicking community are very fond of them.

      I've heard.

      From a friend.

      • Lock picking as in tiny amounts of pressure and 30 grams is laughable. You can get better light duty vices for those kinds of games, in fact I have a plastic Dremel vice for ultra light duty jobs like thst.

    • Pretty weak, good for holding electronics while soldering or cutting thin aluminium or plastic pipes/bars.

  • +7

    thanks for posting the pages!)

  • +3

How is the soldering iron? Any good in terms of quality / decent tips provided?

  • +4

Looks like Bunnings has already price matched some of these things in the catalogue including the two in the title: ozito hammer drill $89.99 & craftright digital caliper $19.89.
Also spirit level, air compressor etc.

    • +4

      That ozito is NiCad batt

    • +3

the comparable one is this https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-power-x-change-18v-compact…

with li-ion batt, but only 1 batt.

      • That one looks much nicer. Bunnings was hoping we didn't notice it was ni-cad!
The other stuff might be comparable in quality, I notice their door hardware was reduced also eg this

      • I haven't seen this particular ALDI drill but have some other ALDI tools as well as some ozito power-x-change tools, the power-x-change stuff is certainly better quality than the ALDI tools.

      • There's also this one from Ozito - https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-18v-li-ion-drill-driver_p6…. Different line to the Power Xchange but does come with 2 batteries.

        • 10mm chuck - er no

        • @hoxygt: don't most cordless drills at this sort of price point have 10mm chucks?

        • [@tryagain](/comment/4457473/redir:

Oh quite likely but if this one does I won't be buying it!

    • Thanks - bought the caliper.

  • +2

Noticed this on price hipster $20 price drop on soldering iron undercutting aldi by 0.10c. https://www.bunnings.com.au/tradeflame-10-in-1-micro-solderi… Not sure how they would compare. Interesting article here about Bunnings being aware of Aldi special deals, may have been posted here previously.

Excellent posting of extracts from the ALDI catalogue. I could get used to this, if OP feels like doing it regularly.

  • +2

    Love the portable workstation/bench :)

  • The door lock from the picture appears to be this one from Honeywell selling for $119 (with the big hint of Honeywell logo on the box)
    Amazon

Seems good value. Can Anyone comment?

    • It's quite a good product, easy to install and use. keep in mind though that it is a deadbolt, not a deadlock. This means it doesn't have the security of a deadlock as the door can be opened from the inside without a key, just by turning the knob.

      • +6

        a deadbolt, not a deadlock.

Same thing, depending on who you ask. The terms are used inconsistently.
"dead" should mean no spring - you need a key to lock it.

All bolt locks are dead. Other latches vary.

        deadbolt
        ˈdɛdbəʊlt/
        noun
a bolt engaged by turning a knob or key, rather than by spring action.

If you wish to be unambiguous, use the term "double cylinder deadbolt".

    • Don't think it is that particular model, the Amazon one has a different button lay out. Still, agreed, looks good.

  • +1

Keter make some decent stuff. So that workbench could be handy

  • I would be cautious with the drill. Despite being lithium and 24v, it's hard to know if the drill is any good when they don't tell you the torque (twisting force).
My previous aldi 24v cordless drill had plenty of power but would quickly stall in hard timber. Returned after the chuck screw snapped.

  • Any views on the accuracy of the caliper?

I have two cheapies and on the external readings I get a disagreement of about 0.6mm. The internals also disagree but only by about one tenth… so it's hard to know whether one is correct or they are both wrong. Given their price I suspect the latter.

    • +2

I'm using the Bunnings Craftright unit which is probably identical to this. For auto body work, fabrication, general measuring it has been perfect. It wanders off zero now and then but is easily reset. Also it eats batteries if you leave them in so I pop them out when finished with it. For $20 it's been one of the best tools in my toolbox.

    • +2

If you need something that accurate you wouldn't buy $20 aldi ones though.

So I'm guessing they are probably like the ones you have. Which in reality is good for almost everything around the house.

Before anyone jumps in giving examples of where it needs to super accurate around the house, I won't reply haha.

  • just built a freaking workbench from wood lol….portable would have been handy :(

  • +1

Anyone know the chuck size on the drill 10mm or 13mm etc?

    • -2

My guess is 95% chance it will be 10mm, 5% chance it is 13mm.

    • +2

Like it would have killed ALDI to put that information in the catalogue.

    • Its 13mm, but the drill is really cheapie quality. Can't detach the battery, looks like it stuck. Might refund it later.

      • Cheers! No fancy German release button at the back etc? 3 years warranty (+ 1 year more with AMEX- but Aldi will charge for the AMEX).. tempted

  • Caliper plastic or metal?

  • This might be a dumb question but would the calipers be okay for doing body fat measurements?

    • A $20 digital vernier gauge for doing body fat measurements? Only if you have up to 150 mm of body fat…
Otherwise, these items from aliexpress would be a better choice. 74 cents, delivered from China.

    • Mate I bought it to measure myself down there…

      • +3

Be careful with the magnifying glass and tweezers.

    • Get this:
      http://tiny.cc/ofyajy

I don't know you but normal ones won't cut it for me!

  • Is this a good price for digital calipers?
I want one but don't really need one.

  • +3

Great price. Bought one 5 years ago; still waiting to use it but very comfortable with the fact that come time, I probably won't be able to find it amongst all the other crap in the garage, and when I do, the battery will be flat…

Originally bought it because my wife likes the cucumber precisely sized for the salad, but I can't seem to get the courage to whip it out at the supermarket and gauge the fresh produce.
