Part of their birthday sale. Seems like a good price!
Alloy frame, full carbon forks, great Shimano 105 groupset.
For under $1000 it doesnt seem bad at all!

Not many top end bikes come with pedals, this is usually to do with specific pedals/cleats/shoes that the rider would usually purchase separately!
Yeah they should at least provide cheap pedals for test rides or to ride home.
Its money. Bikes in Australia, unlike Europe, tend to come bare bones, no accessories.
This enables the shops to up-sell high-margin extras. Customers may shop around for the best price on bikes, so those are low margin.
A shop can double its profit with a few extras.
Even Reid charges $55 for the popular Shimano M520 Pedals, vs $30 online.
…jv coming in with the predictable cliche bike jokes right on schedule!
it has none because pedals at this level of bike (entry / mid level) are very much based on a rider's preference because of the many different style of shoes / cleats/ pedals available and what the rider prefers to use…
this is totally normal and not worth commenting on…it just shows you know not much about the product being discussed & have made another useless comment, hence all the negs on your post ;)
@franco cozzo: jv knows that this level of bike does not come with pedals. The comment is aimed at trolling
@kwydjibo: yeh but what the point? its just dumb/pathetic/lame… :P

@jv: jv….give up. youre just cluttering this thread and adding nothing

I just purchased this bike in store and without me even asking for it they threw in some free plastic pedals :-) But as others have said I'll be swapping them for my pedals of choice anyway.
without me even asking for it they threw in some free plastic pedals
they should mention that on their website. they'd get a lot more sales.
yeh cause you get a lot of bike riders who want cheap nasty flats on a 1K+ roadbike…?!?? :D
youre clearly clueless when it comes to all things bike….so why keep going on and on about the lack of pedals when they have no bearing on the bikes quality or even relevance to the type of rider who would want to buy this?
even relevance to the type of rider who would want to buy this?
wasn't aware this offer was only for certain 'types' of riders… Do they do DNA tests instore?
Back on topic… Will you change your user name if your store sells ?
A Shimano 105 for sub $1000 is hard to find, but so are any reviews, I would like to know more about the brakes (TRP Spyre Mechanical Disc Brakes (160mm rotors)) and the Wheels (Novatec Sealed Bearing Thru Axle Hubs with Alex ADT470 Double Wall Alloy Race Rims) has anyone had any experience?
Cheers
The sealed bearing Novatec hubs offer quality well beyond the price point.
That is from bikeexchange when they reviewed the Vantage comp, but the rims and brakes are different so can't comment.
Novatec Sealed Bearing Thru Axle Hubs with Alex ADT470 Double Wall Alloy Race Rims
I think I'm starting to understand why my parents put on a blank face whenever I try to explain anything that is PC related (processors, graphic cards, memory, etc).
And the exact same price v performance debates occur within cycling.
I had the Spyres on my cyclo-cross/commuting bike for about 2 years and they did the job but wouldn't rate them much better than regular non-disc road calipers. I left them clogged up with mud for a while and they were totalled (poor seals) so replaced them with Avid BB7s instead and the difference is night and day.
As for the wheels, novatec are a good budget hub and Alex make a good, but heavy, rim.
If I had the option of this and an otherwise equivalent non-disc brake bike I'd take this one, whole budgeting in around $100 to replace the brakes.
Thanks for the feedback.
http://road.cc/content/review/90569-trp-spyre-mechanical-dis… , looks like the brakes my be OK for the price point.
the aldi roadbike was the a truly awesome deal (especially for those people who scored one at reduced price)
I like the comment…

JV - it even comes with pedals!
explains jv's lame joke above
Most people actually use them, unless going downhill.
picked up mine for $204 :D
it has its limitations and desperately needs a decent crankset/bb but apart from that a good buy once you throw on a good saddle/pedals to suit your preferences
in a northa Melbourne or footisgrey?
I'm after an entry level bike, I saw that Aldi one last year and didn't buy it. Kicking myself now.
Keep an eye out on eBay & Gumtree, you will score an even better deal second hand eventually.
Keep an eye out on eBay & Gumtree
or garage sales…
I got a Giant bike for $80 that is selling used on ebay and gumtree for around $600. (pedals included)
I've been looking through the Facebook marketplace and there's been a few, but just out of reach $$ wise.
@skegger: I scored an extremely decent road bike off ebay. forget the brand but it's a reasonable one and appeared to be barely used -though 6 years old when bought. aluminium frame&fork, shimano 105 groupset, (forget the rest of the specs - hubs, etc, but they are all mid range. paid $135 for it - was/still am extremely stoked with that purchase even 2 years on.. Bought some clipless pedals off ebay for $19 delivered (some stupidly cheap bike shop sale combined with voucher).
@altomic:
Really good bargain on 105 groupset at $135.
I saw the Aldi Road Bike reduced from 399 to 199 to 149 when I was away in Cessnock a few weeks ago.
I nearly bought it even though I already have a full carbon bike.
Looks like a further $24.50 off via pricepal 2.5% cashback too.
For those interested; I've had a Reid Falco as a daily commuter for a few years now - I've chalked up around 7000 KM on it.
At one point the frame started to crack; I took it in, they replaced it, no questions asked - in fact I got everything new except wheels, chain, crank and cassette.
The falco for 820ish after cashback looks a decent buy?
I'm pretty happy with it, but I'm no hardcore cyclist - it was literally a way to avoid public transport, save money and keep fit (all of which it's been very effective at; it's paid for itself at least 2 times over already!)
That said, they upsold me on Mavic rims, which are now out-of-round and unrepairable; their comment on this was "these aren't commuter wheels" - which begs the question of why they were sold as such!
For this price, wouldn't a Chappelli NuVinci be a better purchase?
NuVinci is for a different type of rider. It seems more for a commuter with an internal 10 speed gear hub and little maintenance.
It's hard to compare the 2 with such different focuses.
Rohloff speed hub for the win. Best 1.5k I ever spent.
I've had this bike for 4 months now. Pretty happy with it.
Couldn't find anything to beat it for the price.
The Cell Brunswick, which is a similar spec bike is $1,199 on special, so still $220 more expensive.
Most big name bikes with 105 and disc go for at least $500 more.
Only small sizes available. ANNOYED
No rainchecks :(
Hey, there's something suss with this bike for sure! It doesn't come with feet cranks
Be aware that they did not have enough bike to honour the orders placed, I have just had to accept a refund!!!!
Is it a run-out model? I would have thought they would have just made more…
But no pedals…
I guess it makes them harder to steal…
