Saw these tonight, about 15 on the shelf - looks very similar to the ones Masters were selling, good for general purpose cleaning and a great price.

Thanks. Been thinking of getting something like that but didn't want to put in the extra moolah.

Please note though for comparison that the 1650 version has been as low as $35 about 10.5 months ago.

they also have the corded power tools for $15 now.

edit: oops haddn't seen this thread yet.

  • Can this be used to clean tiled roof?

    • for $35 why not give it a shot

    • Yes but depending on how hard the stuff is to get off, you will be needing to use a needle stream which means you will be there forever.

  • What was the 'before' price? I wonder if this is good for washing car?

    • It depends on what model car you have.

      • +1

You mean these are good for washing model cars????

        • too powerful for Hot Wheels

        • Depends if you care whether you blast all the grit INTO the paint, trim, etc or not.

They do some pretty savage damage to your clearcoat if you have any suss areas, and the pressurised water can get under the edge of topcoats and lift it.

If you use them on the windows, the pressure causes leakage around the seals.

I own 3 pressure washers of various sizes, however I'd never use one to wash my cars.

No - I lie… I had an old car in the from yard that hade flaking clearcoat (common with that age vehicle). I used a small Karcher to peel off all the flaky stuff that looked unsightly. It pretty much stripped off the non-flaking clearcoat as well, but that didn't really matter on THAT car.

Some people say "good for rinsing" but that is far too much noise and effort for me… it's easier rinsing as you go using a normal garden hose.

Perhaps if you had a 4WD that you didn't care about, they might be good for that.

        • @llama: damn. Was thinking of getting this to clean my car like those ones you see on TV. Is this model more powerful than things like spit water and other pressurized water shooting products?
Could you dial it down a bit for cars?

        • +1

For variable pressure take either 1, 2, 3 or 4 steps away from the target vehicle!

Was thinking of getting this to clean my car like those ones you see on TV

They all work equally well in that context. Brand new car, hired for the photo shoot… no problem!

Is this model more powerful than things like spit water and other pressurized water shooting products?

They are all about the same pressure - the difference between them is the volume of water that they shoot at that pressure (1200 to 1800psi). Anyway, assuming a fan or needle nozzle, all of them will cut your skin if you put your finder in front.

You cannot dial it down - the water pressure is set by the distance from nozzle to surface. It's really easy to accidentally get too close and ooops….

If you are too far away, then it doesn't really do anything, and there is bugger all water volume so it won't rinse off like a normal hose floods the surface.

So you find yourself trying to use it while carefully maintaining a (say) 100mm distance to the surface. The shape of a car makes that difficult - get the angle slightly wrong, or accidentally direct towards a corner and you are peppered with water or dirt. The dirt always goes up the sleeves, or in your mouth like a magnet.

But I love pressure washers, which is why I have 3 of them. They are awesome to clean paving, concrete, etc! Never use them on household paint (strips it), or wood (causes a fuzzy texture). Everyone should own one - just be careful around surfaces that you care about.

        • @llama:
Never thought about pressure washers like that before.
What about going to the local car wash and using their spray? I'm assuming the same concept?
I've always wanted a spray to have at home to clean cars since I prefer the bucket and sponge wash over the car wash brush.

        • @danielh: why not just step back a couple of metres?

        • @Hello Stranger:

Only in that it is a nozzle on a hose. The car wash ones aren't high pressure,

I've always wanted a spray to have at home to clean cars since I prefer the bucket and sponge wash over the car wash brush

That doesn't make sense. The spray is only used to rinse off the suds, the same way that you use a garden hose.

You cannot effectively "clean" a car using a pressure sprayer. At best, they are used to rinse off afterwards.

Watch this video b Karcher about how to do it. Watch carefully at the tools used for each area…. and you will see what I mean.

        • @Skimpywallet:

why not just step back a couple of metres?

And do what? Apply a fine mist of droplets of water onto the paintwork?

They are only "high pressure" for about 100mm distance, far less on the cheapies like this one. Farther away, and it's just like a spray nozzle on your garden hose, when you first twist it open a tiny bit.

        • @llama:
Ah Ok. Thanks for that. Always thought they were high pressure.

        • +1

          @Hello Stranger:

They are high pressure like a garden hose with a nozzle on it is high pressure. But the car wash certainly aren't 1000psi like this Kmart (or much higher with large Karchers). The carwash lance is used to apply suds then rinse off, perhaps with the detergent having enough surfactants to lift the majority of contaminants.

The pressure cleaners really push out a high pressure (incredible, truly) but it's concentrated in a very small area. When cleaning a driveway you would maintain a close distance to the driveway and sweep side to side carefully to clean it using passes maybe 20 to 40mm wide. You cannot pull the nozzle too far, or it doesn't clean, and putting it closer makes the cleaning area narrower.

A pressure jet that is capable of removing concrete and can be used for stripping paint off wood is not the kind of thing you want to be shooting at your car. Note that some pressure washers have lances and accessories for car cleaning, but in this case you are not using the high pressure water to clean the car.

I'm not saying not to get a Pressure Washer anyway.,. They are fantastically handy toys, and once you start one up you will have extreme difficulty not to wander off cleaning all manner of things around your house. It's addictive and makes an extremely pleasant cooling mist during summer - you just can't stop LOL

        • @llama:
Yeah I get that feeling. I recently got a blower and I've been using it for everything outdoors, I don't even pick up the broom anymore - even use it for blowing dust out of the garage.
I did still go have a look at my local KMart but they are out of stock :(

  • Are theses stocked and same price at other Kmart stores? Any one confirm?

    • +1

Yeah just picked one up at another store, same price. Should be great for cleaning vegemite off my toddler.

      • Thanks for confirming. I'll go and have a look my local store then.

    • Picked one up from Northland Vic

  • +1

Just tried it, 3"-4" spread works great cleaning concrete. Took mold spots off outdoor furniture at similar distance. Cleaned wheelie bin like a champ. Seems comparable to the $200 Karcher I owned that only lasted 2 years anyway. Haven't tried the detergent mixer yet. Happy with it for the price as I wasn't going to spend $200 on a Karcher/Gerni and couldn't justify the price of a chinese petrol unit of unknown quality either. Thanks OP.

  • Picked one up from Burwood East VIC

  • Same price over here at Kmart North Rocks,NSW. They have had about 10 on the shelf.

    • Hey - I often go to that one.

      Hate the new store layout!

WTF were they thinking when they put the cash registers in the middle of the store, then employ people to stand at the door and check the bag of everyone leaving. DOH.

      • The easiest way to create more job I guess :)

  • None left at Kipparing Qld

  • I know this sounds like a silly question, but how do you connect the water inwards? I've tried a hose and it doesn't seem to fit the hole

    • +1

There's a black adapter thing that you need to screw on first onto the back of the unit.

  • 3 left at Victoria Gardens/Richmond in Melb, as of about 5pm today

    None at Northcote though

  • Thanks OP.

Got one at about 9:30pm at Burwood NSW, two left.
There were none at Ashfield, NSW.

Also on clearance was some power tools.
115mm 500W angle grinder for $15, six pack metal grinding discs was $3
Palm sander, Jigsaw, cordless drill $15-20.

    • There were five at Ashfield NSW tonight for $35.

  • Thank you! KMart Campbellfield have sold out, but I was lucky to pick up 2 at Kmart Reservoir - Summerhill Shopping Centre. I can't wait to use one AND clean EVERYTHING outside! That's going to be tomorrow for sure!
