Really good price for the Dyson Pure Cool Link. Desk 'fan' with HEPA filtration system :)

Just picked up one - hopefully can save some OzB's some $!

(Yes I know its a little bit ridiculous for a fan but the HEPA filtration may suit allergy sufferers and $299 is competitive with air purifiers)

No, it's just a fan without visible blades.

    • Some people care about the way things look

  • +2

If anybody is after an air purifier I recommend Daikin MC70LPVM.

    • Thanks, being lazy can you advise if it dehumidifies too?

      • +1

I wish it did especially yesterday in Melbourne! But no..

    • +1

      Daikin MC70LPVM

Agreed. That's the best air purifier on the market. It's probably 3x more powerful than this Dyson model.

      • Yes, very happy with it. 7 years worth of filters are also great.

    • +1

Was curious so I looked, but only 1 year warranty??? The Blueair units are similar in costs but have 5 yr warranty once rego card is sent back. Furthermore it has HEPA filtering. No mention of this on the Daikin?? I have multiple Blueair units that run 24/7 for the past 6 years and still working smoothly.

      • +1 to this, if Dyson doesn't have a premium warranty in line with the premium price (a price that may or may not be justified, I have no idea) then I can draw only one conclusion.

  • +1

    thanks op, grab one!

    • no problem!

  • +1

Ordered one from DavidJones pickup for Cashrewards. Hope I did it correctly as the Chrome extension didn't work & I had to use the site instead.

The only bad thing I've read about this (besides the filter replacement cost after 4300hrs) is that you have to take the filter off if you only want to use the fan which seems dumb imo for times when you don't need a filter. Almost got the AM06 last week for $50 less from BingLee ebay but I wanted a stylish fan that offered a little more value

Heard that the AM06 lacks a night mode too so with this model the onscreen display will actually dim instead of lighting up the entire room at night

edit: cashback confirmed! that's $18 I'll get in a few months :) makes me feel slightly less ripped off

  • +5

Oh when one looks at specifications, there is no wattage or noise levels listed on the website. That's a huge failing. Rep please advise these parameters and update your website.

    • +2

They are relatively noticeable when you set the speed to 6 or more.
My Pure hot and cool sounds like it is raining outside when I set it to full blast (10).

But definitely much quieter than those floor fans that is used to dry carpets :)

    • Once again I just work for the company, I just echo what information I have been trained on. I personally think the website is very poor as well in terms of updating the website, if I had control to add information I would lol.

  • I recently purchased this for $15. It blows a good breeze even on the lowest setting. https://www.target.com.au/p/essentials-4-cm-pedestal-fan/579…

For the price of one of these "bargain" Dysons I could purchase 20 of the fans from Target. This is just a very overpriced product which looks nice and gives people hope that somehow it will work much better than a normal fan however will disappoint. Save your money folks.

    • +3

But then you're not getting the HEPA filtration system. That's the biggest selling point for me and makes it attractive at 299. This may have also been an error as the the rep indicated above, although I agree with your sentiment, the RRP is insane and paying 299 for a fan is also insane the added features I think justify the price.

      • +5

My mentality is - if you're going to spend 299 on a fan, you might aswell spend a little bit more and get an air con unit.

Sleeping with the air con on is one of life's best experiences

        • Exactly the opposite for me! Can't get a proper nights sleep with aircon, but I think I'm weird that way.

        • @911r:
Some ppl actually have some issues when they keep A/C on. Not me though XD

      • For HEPA / Air purification purpose, I would say get one that does for that purpose.

Again, if you are happy to spend $100 / 2 year than that's another story i guess.

The real benefit of this fan is when you have young children whom may get hurt from the blade.

      • Does the HEPA filtration remove dust off my furniture too?

        • Not sure if serious or sarcastic but no it doesn't, it hasn't sucked the dust off my black tempered glass cabinet.

    • +1

I bought the exact same one 2 weeks ago and although the quality of the material is terrible. Like really really terrible it still does its job.
If I'm going to be completely honest I don't think this thing is even worth $15, I would say maybe $10 at most haha.
But as I said, it does the job as intended.

  • I'm not sure the rep should really be claiming to be the rep… the ludicrous price of these fans (and hairdryers) is just silly.

    • Well, I don't make the products so I don't make the prices, I just work for the company.

I am still a consumer just like everyone else on here and everyone has their preferred products, I can say the same thing for the cost of Apple products and comparing them to its competitors.

  • Look these aren't FANS so it shouldn't be judged as such. These are items you place in the house much like a painting or some other artwork (subjective). If you want a FAN that does the same job then get one from Bunnings, if you want something that looks good and blows a bit of air then get this. It's still a 'bargain' for the intended purpose as (some) people do pay twice as much normally. I don't think we need to get into the 'technical' argument as we're not comparing apples.

    • +7

Ahh you're right. If I think of these as a mass-produced, plastic artwork, all of a sudden the grossly inflated price make far more sense…

    • And increase your income status?;)

    • I have a Dyson tower fan sitting on the side of the room and not used often. However the small hot n cool fan gets used a lot during winter, it is not so great in summer but need it to blow out heat during extremely hot days. I think the hot n cool fan was worth it but the tower fan was a complete waste. It depends!

      • I really want to replace my portable heater which currently blows more dust than heat but another $300+ puts me off. I'd probably use the fan + heat equally though

        • The heater works well for my small apartment, it has a thermostat so it turns off and on at night if the temp varies. It is fairly noisy but I am used to noise as I've always lived in the city. I think it was a good buy after more than two years of use.

  • i was never sold on idea of desktop usb fans but this $27 is absolutely brill https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/gva-15cm-usb-5v-desk-fan-g15u… it's super quiet with two settings so can actually do conference calls and has good surface area and just plain works.. only accidental purchase as $10 ones were sold out! but it has me hooked…

  • +2

These things are noisy AF.. co-workers hate him, find out why

  • How much more energy efficient is this than a split system aircon. Been running it most nights lately.

    • +3

you cannot compare it as this is not an aircon.
      Its just a fan.

      • I was mislead by their ad/ I misinterpreted into thinking the same when I bought the tower. Their fan is a waste of money.

  • +1

    Hmm… this, 59 avocados or a house…

  • +2

find vornados alot better personally. would never go back after getting a vornado

    • which one do you have? Is it loud?

      • +1

got the 633. on level 1 it runs pretty much silent, level 2 is decent you can sleep with it easy enough. Level 3 can be quite loud but you rarely need it on level 3.

we're trying to get hold of one of the pedestal Vornados so we can have some height to it as wel but noone seems to sell them in Oz :(

        • Can I ask where you got your Vornado?

        • @sky152:

          Harvey norman mate!

        • Ah darn it….should have looked into this when Amex had the offer for HN. Thanks dude!

  • Despite those impulse buys, those who buy Dyson products are mainly after (1) the wow factor / design at home (2) has a higher budget for toys and lastly (3) got talked into the superior health/energy benefit a Dyson can deliver over other products.

Someone may also be risking to buy low and sell high in the secondary market and good luck for those.

My point is, know your budget and keep an eye on your credit card debt.

  • +4

I didn't want this, but now it's nearly got 100 votes and I do

    • Don't let the FOMO get you! If it wasn't for the need of the filtration, this is one expensive fan.

  • +1

The Good Guys has this at the same price as of today $299 for those interested.

    • prefer dj's customer services over tgg~

      • Agreed, but for some TGG is closer, plus most of the DJ's are out of stock now (at least thats what it shows online). Myer had it same price too but all sold out.

  • +2

These do look nice, but are hella noisy, if you want to throw that many dollars around, you could look at the vornado

  • The only reason you would buy one of this…is Child Safety they can't stick their fingers to the blades.

I had a very old fan made in Japan, full steel and that blows Dyson away with its blowing power. This is from the 80s you can't but it anymore

    • I was thinking of that when this popped up, but I found instead of getting fingers stuck in a blade. Now you have a leaning tower of Pisa hazard.

  • +1

I got one, it's air purification is enough to warrant the extra dollars over frankly ugly fan.

  • +1

I'd jump in if it was the hot-cold version….I'm interested in the purifier but being in Melbourne I would think it would be a bit annoying running it during most of the cold months….

    • Got 1 for 20% off the good guys ebay store around Nov last yr, have only used the heater once cause its been hot ever since.
I'm using it for my bedroom but I don't why I want 1 of these for my pc/lounge room…
If it were this alone id probably buy it but when I add them both up, it's nearly $1000…

  • +6

The price is probably close to being below what 99% of the population would think is outrageously priced.

I have an appreciation for how the dyson fans look, so place some value on that. but, let's be honest, no matter how quiet they are, how much power they save, they do not stack up from a function (per dollar) perspective. it is mainly about the form.

having said that, i had been looking at those fans for a while.

when the recent harvey norman amex cashback deal came up (spend $300, get $100 back), i went in to get a dyson v6 cordless vac($349 before cashback), they had a $299 AM06 fan deal for cordless vac buyers. while i still couldn't get my head around spending that much on a fan, i bit the bullet. split the vac/fan purchase across 2 amex cards, and effectively got the AM06 for $199. the AM06 seems to be the same as this one, but without the "purifier".

the fan sat there for a while in the family room, which screamed "wasted money" every time i looked at it.

with the new baby, i have been sleeping in the spare non-aircon'd room lately. with the recent hot weather, the fan found itself in that room, switched on most nights. gotta say, the $$ seem worth it now. on those nights which barely dipped below 30, i had it turned up to 8 or 9. yeah, it isn't totally silent, but is far from annoying. i sleep well with it set like that, even when that hot. most other nights this summer i have it on about 5, which is almost inaudible. yeah, at the distance i have it sitting (about 1.5m away), it isn't that powerful, but enough for that purpose. the gentle breeze does the trick.

even though i am now happy with the purchase, i still don't reckon i'd pay any more than i did. i don't have allergies (and, thus far, the kids don't seem to either), so don't really see the extra value in the filtered model, which is the subject of this thread. some others might value the "purifying" capability though, and that price could seem like a good deal.

as for those that think these fans are a good idea because they are kid-proof, i reckon that would only apply to the bigger heavier tower fans. i reckon, if given the chance, my toddler would easily knock over one of these desk fans, possibly damaging it.

    • I reckon for your purpose, your story would read almost the same with a $29 pedestal or box fan tbh.

    • +3

seriously who brings a fan overseas and back…

      • +1

just saying incase someone don't know there is 2 dollar parts on dyson store……..

    • LOL, love this.

  • I'm not gonna lie, the only reason I'd buy this over another fan is because it looks cool as shit.

  • Jeez, a lot pf Dyson fanboys here

    • +4

      Don't you mean anti-Dyson lol

      • +2

It was a joke….fan boy Dyson fan??

To be honest, I wouldn't have thought of buying one of these, but the comment by “Tech and cars” on the previous page makes a lot of sense.

A lot of people pay $300+ for a vase or something decorative in their house. In the same way, this has some what decorative value as well. Imagine you have a lounge setup, with a few couches, and a really nice TV, speaker system - and right next to the $1000 Yamaha bookshelf speaker, is a $10 K-mart fan? It just doesn't work.

A lot of people here get their knickers in a knot over different products where quality and aesthetics are important. They cannot understand that everyone has different priorities in life and that they may appreciate something that looks nice and is also functional. Apple products are a typical example.
If I was living in a nice place I would definitely consider this (actually I still am)

        • +1

          Haha, got you now.

Exactly. Everyone has different preferences where they will spend more in certain areas over others. Yeah I try to use apple products as an analogy (since people like to compare the two brands despite their businesses running differently) you see the negative votes lol

    • Someone has already said that joke.

      • +2

Yes that was me…you didn't get it then so I posted it again

Not often I come up with a joke so I have to repeat it multiple times until at least one other person gets it :-p

        • +2

          LOL
that's funnier than the joke itself.

  • +1

Bought a few and going to flog them off on gumtree

    • Let me know when and I will buy one from you

  • The Apple of wanky fans. Why would anyone buy this when the cost of installing air conditioning isn't far off the RRP?

    • Two different products and of course running cost for an air con can be expensive. End of the day everyone has their preferences.

      • My parents love Dyson products. Half the fans in our house are Dyson and the other half are industrial fans that can knock a small child over. For the cost of all the Dyson fans alone in the house, we could've installed reverse cycle air conditioners again in all the rooms.

        • Very true, they are only expensive because the technology in the products are exclusive to them and therefore not mass produced like industrial fans are. If the Dyson fans were then, of course, they would be far cheaper than they currently are. Not everyone can justify buying a Dyson product of course but at least they try to improve on currently existing technology, whether the improvement is worth it in a consumer's eyes, it is just unfortunate it isn't cheap to make at the current time with the technology we have.

        • @cortex21: the vacuum cleaners are worth it. Everything else is just overpriced crap. What is the point of a fan? If it moves air, it is a good fan.

        • +2

@niggard: That is what I am trying to say people are only off put by the price. The same can be said for say cars if it takes you from point A to B it's still a car and with that, we would still be driving the same style cars from the 1920's. Human's just naturally want to improve on products, appliances as the whole point of being created are to do the job it was designed to do easier for us.

I am not saying the Dyson fans even the latest are perfect, Dyson will still continue to improve just like with their vacuums, they haven't been in the fan market for long compared to the vacuum market where they had more time to improve on. Like yeah, you like their vacuums but not everyone does and at the same time their first vacuums in the market were completely different to today's ones as they continue to improve from the previous model generation.

    • Out of these would you choose
      A)https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/mitsubishi-heavy-industries-c33kw-h40kw-reverse-cycle-split-system-setdxk12zma-s
      B)https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/levante-c55kw-cooling-only-portable-air-con-lev18
      C)https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/kelvinator-c53kw-cool-only-box-air-con-kwh53cre

      and why?

They are all the same price, they are all Air Conditioners… so which one and why?

I don't know your situation but fans and air conditioning is not the same and you can't always install air conditioning

      • I'd get A. It's reverse cycle so will be useful in winter as well and will provide more cooling than a fan, albeit an expensive fan.

  • I wanted to purchase the Dyson Blow dryer for the mrs.. Until i saw the price! My jaw dropped..

    • Now that you have your mouth wide opened, you can blow dry your Mrs hair :p

  • Out of stock at Dyson and David Jones for me

  • Dyson Website Out Of Stock

  • Estimated delivery: No stock - call for assistance

  • I bought one of these to replace a first gen dyson fan i had that squeaked, only to find that this one ALSO squeaks when you put it on rotate. Be warned, ive googled trying to find out how to fix it but it seems quite a common problem with the dyson fans. Effectively you cant have it rotating during the night or it will wake you up :(

    • It has improved a lot since!

I agree with the first gen of Dyson fans, they were loud and squeaky but they have improved a lot since then.

      • Improved a lot since when? Lachlan889 is talking about the fan in this deal squeeking?

  • +3

Harvey Norman have them at this price as of today as well. $299. Woke up after a night of thinking on it and then come to it being sold out, so have had to hunt around! phew

    • +1

Thanks. The good guys have also dropped to $299

  • Thanks to the OP for posting this. I'm happy with the fan I have, and I don't need the filter, but this looks like a very good price for people who want to buy this unit. Keep posting.

  • Do you know when this is going to expire?
I have an employee (not Dyson) discount coming up and wondering if they'll overlap.

Btw are Dyson working on a portable air conditioner? ;)

    • Dude I wanted a humidifier but Dyson retails it at $750 for just blowing out steam, so I bought a $100 beurer :(

Imagine how much an air con would cost that doesn't just blow out steam~

      • That is very true lol

But just imagine for a second…if they developed a breakthrough technology where they harnessed the power of a wall mounted air-con, and packed it into the aesthetics of one of their fans. I'd pay for that :D

Of course this is assuming they have Tony Stark in their R&D department.

      • +4

It would probably have some really cool tech, like pulling cold air from a parallel universe through a wormhole. It would also look sexy af, outer shell made of obsidian and inner components made of unobtainium.

However, it would be just as effective as a normal aircon… and cost $12billion. :P

        • And only the 3 richest kings could own them

  • Does anyone know if you can tilt this particular model to direct the airflow - either at the base or the fan itself? The hot+cool purifier can…

    • +2

Yeah I've got one, you can tilt it the same way.

      • Thanks. Its extremely unclear on their product page and some of the reviews said you can't
