Free SMS all around the World

70

TXT for free on your mobile or PC. Easy to install and simple to use. No limits, no costs, no catches. Opt-in or opt-out at any time

each message has an ad attached - the test I used had "get your free sms at www.mobik.com" attached.

Worldwide coverage but each message you send is appended with an 'ad tag' from their sponsors. MobiK will not deliver a TXT message unless there is an 'ad sponsor' in your region. View their coverage page for the latest summary of 'ad sponsored' regions.

They say if you have a ported number (eg Testra number - like 043XXX) and its now with another carrier (Optus) then the message may not be delivered. In my case this was delivered ok.

Havent tried with it on my mobile as it needs a java application installed and my phone doesn't Java

  • Nice.

Gizmo has also recently released free SMS site, but I tried it to SMS my phone, and hasn't received it after 24 hours.

My number has been ported 3-4 times though. Not sure whether it is causing issues. I might give this one a try.

  • Re: Gizmo

Whirlpool has a thread. Seems like no one is receiving SMSs.

    a link

    • Yup. I was googling "Gizmo SMS" on the Internet earlier today and it appears the message not received is not just an issue with Australian carriers, but all around the world.

No wonder I haven't seen much buzz about it lately. Otherwise it would be a superior platform than Mobik posted here by ozpete, as it does not require registration and only a CAPTCHA for verification. Whereas Mobik requires so much detailed information I gave up half way during signing up…

  • Mobik

    Detailed information???

Are we talking about the same service - Logging on by the internet - using a browser, I don't recall too many questions? I know if I get to many I just walk.

Maybe if you need to set up your mobile phone to send via the java there maybe more answers required, but not via the internet??

Also Mobik is an Australian enterprise.

I tried Gizmo SMS and got no deliveries, thats when i searched and found Mobik. At least it works

    • It uses a heavy Flash-based client, and when I register, it asked me at least two page of questions. Sometimes I don't even want people to know about my residential address — they are just providing me free SMS, why do they need to know these?!

Whereas with GizmoSMS it only asks for your name, and who you want to send the SMS to.

Except it does not work :( Which makes it completely useless.

  • Fair enough, but as you said it WORKS whereas Gizmo doesn't. And each has their own preferences and likes.

Just in case others might have the same the concern about what info is required here is what they ask.

    First page:-
    First name
    Last Name
    User Name
    password / repeat
    email

    Second page:-
    Gender (M/F)
    DOB
    Country
    Nearest City
    Post/Zip Code
    Your Mobile number
Your Carrier - eg Vodafone, Telstra

I see nothing but your Mobile and email address gives you away. (plus probably your IP address - but thats with all sites). So as you ask - why do they need this? - my guess is - As they are using advertising to offset the costs - some details would be required to encourage the advertiser to market to a target group.

I think having some accountability is responsible otherwise some could use this mischieviously. - That most probably will sink Gizmo unless it can stop it being used incorrectly.

Mobik also allows you to log on and ban messages from them, so if someone tries to spam or annoy you from Mobik, you can ban all Mobik messages.

Once signed up, you just go to the site and with remember me checked, it logs in automatically.

I can't comment on the SMS from your mobile as I don't have a Java phone, maybe another ozbargain blogger can advise.

There is a user guide to check it's features. http://www.mobik.com/guide.pdf

So people - this may help you decide. While its free, there are conditions, its your choice.

( I don't work, have any equity or knowingly, know anyone, at Mobik)

  • I went on mobik and it said he person i was sending it to had to be a member.
I also cant get this site to work.
Maybe free sms to good to be true.
    Any tips finding somewhere.
