Stay away from Elephone - bought an S3 (directly from them, no reseller involved) and it was laden with adware from the launcher that you couldn't get rid of. As in ads every 5 mins that overlay on top of Whatsapp, Skype etc… No response from their support email or forum either. Shame, as actually like their near-vanilla interface and the hardware for the money.

    • Which site? elephone.hk?

      • Yes, from there. I wish I visited the forums before buying, so many problems reported and no answers from the company.

And it seems no response to what you've just posted…

@sillywalks: Only checking if it was a legitimate source.

        • There's only two possibilities…

          1. the rom is actually clean and the store puts on the adware (store is obviously at fault) - do a phone wipe/reset

          2. manufacturer puts on the adware (elephone at fault) - do a root/new rom

either way, startlingly common on many china phones now, in fact i'm surprised when there's no adware!

        • @Clear:

          And is it?

          @tonyjzx:

The store in this case is the manufacturer - I bought direct from the Elephone website (for exactly this reason to avoid man-in-the-middle adware)

The ads are generated by the EleLauncher which can't be uninstalled (even if you switch to Google launcher etc the ads still show) as well as their other EleBeauty selfie editing app. Reset won't help, only option is to root, but good luck finding something that works properly (including fingerprint scanner etc)

I've had a good experience with One Plus before, next time probably go back to the more reputable of the Chinese brands…

Stubborn Trojan Killer might give you a good report.

What normally happens is that they have a few apps that cant be deleted…. I suspect you are right. There is NO clean rom so far so until someone comes up with a Cyanogen like build then these phones are forever infected and you cannot buy them unless its for curiousity.

You dont know what stuff is being sent back to China servers. That's the worst case.

          Best case is interminable ads.

None of that is worth the money.

    • nearly bought this phone, very happy I didn't after reading this

ZTE Nubia My Prague Elite Specs looks good
    Until this: 2200mAh Battery / QC 2.0

  • Neither has LTE band 28 (700 MHz) for Telstra and Optus or LTE band 5 (850 MHz) for Vodafone network. Yes, those will work on band 3 in Australia but not as fast as in band 28 (Telstra/Optus) or band 5 (Vodafone).

  • elephone S7 lmao more like samsung galaxy s7 edge (alot shitter version) that most likely has the most infected rom installed

No adware (or other) problems with my Elephone P6000 Pro bought from JD in late 2005.

Things may have changed since then, but I generally take with a pinch of salt unqualified comments such as:

    Stay away from Elephone

Thanks for the link. I won't post Elephone again. They're going to be launching their own fork of Android. It'll be interesting to see how loaded that will be.
