I disagree… telstra is best if you are traveling around Australia or anything like that. Telstra still have the best mobile network in Australia and seeing as this is primarily a mobile based device this is a good deal IMO. Cheapest price I have seen it.
Davo, you don't have to be in a "remote" town to not have signal or decent coverage from other providers.
There are plenty of towns within 2 hours of Brisbane that fall into this category and I wouldn't call them remote.
fair call. yep, i stand corrected, people outside major Australian cities.
Not to mention other mobile networks pale in comparison to Telstra's coverage and speeds.
@ShortyX: Like meeeee
@ShortyX: I guess if you're Mr. Money Bags, Telstra is fine…
@jv: well i live in surfers paradise and am with three, and could not get a poorer mobile internet connection if i tried. telstra is blazingly fast and the coverage is ridiculously good. if only they were a few dollars cheaper :(
also this is the old model that telstra are phasing out in favour of the new one with the rotating connector
Looks like it's becoming cheaper to buy a dongle for each network than it is to pay to unlock.
You don't really want to use Telstra dongle in Optus network anyway, is it most likely won't support Optus' 900MHz 3G frequency. And vice versa, Optus dongle won't support Telstra's 850MHz.
nice price, id get one if i didnt have one already
used to have 3 and optus for use in gold coast (southport), worst speed and coverage ever; using Next G now, and am getting awesome reception, 130KB/sec+ on the train :)
As mentioned above, this modem is being cleared out for the new $89 Turbo Model that includes 2GB of data.
That said I have this modem and cannot fault it, I find it alot faster than the Virgin/Voda modems.
What model is the modem you have?
The modem I have is the ZTE MF626, the one in this offer
Do not confuse this with the ZTE MF626i that is the new model
With telstra its always a balance between great coverage and poor data allowance… the later means its not worth it for me.
Check the rates yourself
http://www.telstra.com.au/bigpond-internet/prepaid-mobile-br…also optus network sucks most of the time what with all of the network congestion in the cities
can you do the "credit to you" from your prepaid phone account onto this?
Yes you can :)
thanx Jordan!
Is anyone using this on a mac? Are they compatible? Also, do you know if you need to activate it within a certain period? (need mobile broadband for when I travel interstate, not going to need it again until October, so would like to be able to use the included data then).
Yes this works on a Mac (I can confirm with Leopard/Snow Leopard).
brilliant, thanks for the reply.
With prepaid wireless how/when do they start your 30 day period? Do you need to contact them to activate it or is there something that triggers when the unit is marked as having been sold?
you need to call to activate the sim
Does that mean you can wait as long as you want before you activate the SIM or is there a finite time frame in which you need to do it?
You must Activate the SIM within 2 years of its creation by Telstra. The "Use By" date is printed on the back of the Starter Pack.
You can only Activate by telephone - you need to speak English to a human being, based in India.
You must use the credit within 30 days of Activation.
Not sure how long it is but yeah there is an expiry

i dont think its that great deal tbh (unless you live in a remote town where the other companies dont give signal)
