    • Nitecore Mh20 is so much lighter and smaller but needs one 18650
I used ea4 before and they are thick and heavy due to 4x as eneloop

      • What is the advantage for using 18650? Didn't know what they are and so have always stuck with the AA ones so far. Can I charge them using normal AA chargers? La Crosse BC700.

        • Its higher voltage, and more current (amps). Not as in mAh, but actual amps to drive higher current devices. But in single cell format, they are dangerous and not really consumer friendly, although they are now becoming more mainstream.

They arent forgiving like AA if treated poorly. The old way people would mix old and new AA, might cause a leak with alkalines etc or ruin/shorten life of a good Eneloop. With li ion (18650s etc), it can cause a 1300+ degree C fire and in a torch thats water tight, it becomes a little pipe bomb, with a nasty gas that ruins your lungs as a parting gift. They need to be stored right, never allowed to go below 3, or 2.5 if you know what youre doing. Should never be stored long term fully charged, and never allowed to go flat which over time they will. They require maintenance, and storage at around 3.6v, and checked to keep them over 3v as they will self discharge. Its not advisable to leave them in hot cars. Like I said, they require care. People will argue that its all good, theyve done this, theyve done that which is true enough, until it goes bad. Its not every time, but when it does, its not like a AA or Eneloop is the point.

        • @Tuba:
Thank you for the thorough explanation! Sounds like a lot of fun to use though I might just be too lazy to carry out the maintenance properly.

One thing that comes to mind is whether car insurance would cover the fire if I left one on the car during the hot Australian summer? Even if it's not intentional…

        • @smiley-k: Doesnt burn the car down, well I havent seen one do it, but one sure made a mess of a dash and glovebox. Id be getting new insurance if mine didnt cover such things. Its just a torch and I would play dumb re risks.

You need 3 amps to drive an XML to near 1000 lumens, and 4 AA Eneloops can do that too. Using an 18650 gains no brightness. If you put 4 Energiser Lithiums (disposable or properly named primary lithiums from say Woolies) in it, it will be good to go in the car, and store for as much as 20 yrs and still run hard. Just not cheap, 4 are usually around $20.

    • D40A is an awesome choice, very nice light. AA is a simpler more friendly battery, and 4 helps to keep the LED in regulation longer, which is a restriction with AA Cree XML based lights.

If you havent alredy go Eneloops, get some Ikea LAdda as they are high output Japanese Eneloop Pros anyway, under $10 for 4.

      • Yes getting this to replace a dying Nitecore EA4. So the eneloops should carry over. Haven't tried the IKEA ones but will keep it in mind. Thank you.

The only time I have used FastTech was a nightmare - got PayPal to refund after waiting over 10 weeks, and FastTech's customer service response was that I should have waited another 8 weeks to see if the charger arrived - seriously, wait over 20 weeks for a charger from China !!!

I will never deal with them again - not even if the discount was 75%

    • Average wait time for me is 3 weeks, only time I've had to wait is when the item is on back-order. Have used them many many times, typically for vape gear and sometimes led torches.

      • I bought a Convoy S2 from them and it took 2.5 weeks. Ordered some 18650 batteries and opted for the Australian shipping option (didn't want them to get confiscated by customs) and they arrived in a week. Both orders went well and I'll probably order another Convoy S2 (which are amazing btw) and 18650 batteries this time around.

    • Been ordering for months, had no issues.

  • I had about a dozen odd things in my cart, waiting for this sale… I was surprised I found every single item cheaper on ebay, (even after the 15% off)… Seems they've gone the same way as DX…

Still good for odd ecig gear though…

  • I buy all my e-cig gear at this site from batteries to liquid to chargers etc…
