can i use this for spearfishing?
It might not be sharp enough mate.
i was hoping to stun them with the brightness
You want something that will produce a more intense hotspot (which will also be a tighter beam). A friend of mine spearfishes in rivers with an Armytek Predator Pro and he says it works well.
Not legally
400 Lumen/3 hour
3.7V 800mAhBullshit. Thats 400 lumen/watt including driver losses.
4500 Li-ion
14500, so very sloppy specs, to be polite. If I wanted grossly inflated claims for LEDs, I'd go to ebay.
If memory serves, ANSI runtime is measured as the time until output dims to 10% of the initial brightness. Which is ridiculous, but it's what the standard says.
It's why certain brands (Led Lenser etc) can advertise impossibly long runtimes. They aren't regulated and so the brightness starts dropping immediately.
Can anyone comment on whether this is a good buy or not? I've been looking at the $65/$80 black diamond models on anaconda.
New to headlamps so not sure what to look for.
I'm super happy with my Led Lenser SEO5, and just last week I went shopping for the inlaws birthday. Looked at the Black Diamonds and while they're super comfy on the head, I didn't like the layout at all compared to mine, so just about another LL! The adjustable beam is a feature that was a clincher for it, though you should go in and try them to see what features are important to you.
Buy it once mate. Look at something like Armytek Tiara or Armytek Wizard Pro
From my experience weakest problem with headlamps are adjustable screws and joints… sometimes get lose and its impossible to set it in right position.
Consider that before buying one…
This one comes with aluminium body and very simple design and that is only reason why i consider this as a bargain.
Of course you can find it a bit cheaper on ebay or maybe in a local cheap store..
Armytek Tiara A1 Pro warm. Buy direct from them and it should be under $80. Buy once, cry once. If you already have 18650 cells, the Wizard Pro would be something else to consider. Trust me. And trust @Flyerone. Pop over to reddit.com/r/flashlight of you have more questions. We are super friendly and love to help.
Found this at BCF with 850 lumens for $48. Thoughts on this torch from anyone? cheers
http://www.bcf.com.au/Product/Korr-10W-Cree-LED-Zoom-Headlam…Maybe it's just me, but I always steer clear of anything with an inbuilt rechargeable battery when it comes to camping.
This one seems to have a removable AA_sized battery.
Similar-looking models will also accept a NiMH or alkaline battery. Maybe this?
I do a lot of crawling through roof cavities, under cars, under houses etc and find that cap lights are much better than strap lights. The straps on most headlights catch on things and pull the torch off your head, and get clogged up with dust, dirt and cobwebs quickly. If they are heavy they tend to droop unless tightened uncomfortably.
As Hinee said, rechargeable batteries aren't always wise. I want to be able to swap batteries easily and not have to wait hours to recharge them. Also if I don't use the torch for a few months I don't want to come back to completely dead Li-ion cells which have discharged to the point they are now landfill.
I bought a few of these and attached them to the brim of cheap hats. The hat keeps dust and debris out of my hair, the cap won't get caught on things, my head is partially protected from sharp objects, and the lamp can be aimed very easily without shifting straps. Use rechargeable AAA batteries if you wish:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/400lm-CREE-Q5-LED-Fishing-Outdoor…The idea of a hat light isn't a bad one, but used heavily those lights you linked won't last nearly as long as something like an olight S1. Also, a good lithium cell won't discharge to the point of failure for many years, but I agree that proprietary rechargeable cells are the work of the devil and should be avoided at all costs.
I treat them more as disposables. I could buy five of those crap ones for the price of one good quality lamp. It really depends on what you're doing. I sure as heck wouldn't go caving with something cheap and nasty, as my life might literally depend on it.
I just mentioned the cap lights as not many people are aware of them. I've seen so many people struggling with the straps on normal head torches, having their hair get tangled in it, having them sag and droop when you get a sweaty forehead etc, but I just whack on my cap and away I go. Cap lights are really easy to aim also. Strap-lights sometimes shift on your head when you try to adjust their angle.
One time I was under a mate's house looking for a plumbing leak I stuck two of these cap lights onto the brim so I could have one long-distance and one for close-up. My mate who wore a strap-light had to have a shower after because his hair was all matted full of cop-webs, but I just brushed off my hat and put it back in my bag. Easy as!
Is the charger included?
