Kirkland Signature 7-Piece Golf Iron Set $599.98 (Was $849.99) In Store Only @ Costco (Membership Required)

630

Absolute bargain at this price.

Deal was at Costco Crossroads, 4-PW both stiff and regular flex available.

Was waiting over 2 years for these to land in Oz, bought a much more expensive set of Pings just before they arrived.

        • Ok JV

  • Hanging out for the Driver to come to Aus

    • apparently they did have a Kirkland whole set in the US.

      • Nah, didn't include the woods.

    • Moorrabbin had driver in store with lots of availability -$320 from memory. Was tempted.

    Kirkland Signature is Costco

    • +11

Uh… yeah, is this a surprise?

      • -7

        For some, yes.

        • +7

All of Costco's stuff from food to sporting goods is branded Kirkland. That's like saying saying Anko = Kmart or Ozito = Bunnings. What other hidden knowledge do you have for us?

  • -2

Anyone know what irons these are? 3-9?

    • +4

In the description mate, 4 iron to Pitching Wedge as is usually the case

  • +1

Saw these and the Callaways, but both sets are RH only so I kept walking.

      No love for lefties

    • +1

Its okay , Lefties get discounts and second hand clubs 50% off when RH second hand are $50 off

  • Some Youtube golfer did a review of these irons - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyMD8HUsDUE

Calling him a youtube golfer is hilarious

      • +2

I audibly laughed, not sure if OP was serious or leaning into the joke

  • Only downside would be resale

  • +3

    I see a golf bargain, I upvote ⛳

  • +1

these better than the Callaway Edge?

    • in general yes. but if you are 100% new to golf maybe not as this is only an iron set and less forgiving than the edge.

  • -5

Good luck if u guys are beginners u have no chance using this club.

    • Anythings going to be better than the clubs i picked up off the verge

    • why?

      • +1

It's difficult to hit and the face is tiny.

Has nothing to do with quality more like smaller club head and less forgiving.

        • Thanks,
Watched this and seems not too bad ?

          • @MrBillions: These are a Taylormade P790 replica and suited to golf handicaps below 18. These clubs have a small club face and little offset.

Definitely not a golf club for a newbie.

          • +1

@MrBillions: Pick two: Distance, accuracy or "feel" (how much it hurts your hands, arms, shoulders, back and legs).

For a beginner, choose whatever. Your swing is inconsistent and you can't hit the broad side of a barn. Everyone loves you, the club is really supporting and its a really nice walk followed by a cold drink at the club house.

Specifics: this club is designed to hit an extra 2-5% further than a normal club. Downside: you lose accuracy. A lot. That's bad for a beginner.

It's got a heavier shaft and lighter head. That's more weight your arms, shoulders, back and legs have to push. You're going to be tensing your core and legs. Similar to wearing steel cap boots, sure, you can kick harder and faster but you will get tired much faster. It's going to hurt you more.

Normal advice for a newbie is get a wide faced club with the lightest shaft you can afford. Stiff or flex are the exercises you do to earn up, not relevant to the type of stick yet. Work on control and aim. It's more fun when the ball goes where you are aiming. You won't hit as far but that's good because that means less walking into the woods to find your lost ball.

        • I use a Wilson Tour set I got from Big W about 10 years ago ($250ish). I also play field hockey so think I've got a fairly consistent strike. I'm about handicap 18 and heading down since I play once a week. Reckon they'll suit? I haven't used blades before

          • @haydent: These are NOT blades, its hollow club head. THe trend in the last few years, they look like blades but they are players irons ie. Those whole like more compact and less offset irons vs oversize super offset models…
I compare to my titleist Oversize model from 2005, this one has Far less offsets and head is much much smaller.

So if you using an oversize model right now, you will be quite shock. But if you prefer less offset this is definitely the one to get.

            • @ttt888: Thanks for the intel. This is the exact club set I have. So that's oversize and I'll need to adapt to the much smaller hitting zone? But worth it for a far superior/advanced club?

              • +1

@haydent: Yup the costco irons will be way smaller clubhead and less offset than the photo you shared above..

If you are not a good ball striker than the wilson will be superior.
If you are a good ball striker, costco irons will be superior.

That's my take. I'm sure when you go to costco someone would have ripped upon a box, at least my costco did.. and you can check it out yourself.
The box is not seal if you gently open on don't think staff will get angry.

              • @haydent: If you compared 7i blade length, kirkland might be about 5mm shorter. It isnt a huge amount and you get used to it pretty quick. I went from an old oversided wilson set to Srixon ZX5 which similar to these with 78.5mm length. P790 blade length is 79mm and kirkland should be similar. Some irons are less than 75mm and some game improvement irons like mizuno jpx925 hot metal are 85mm and wilson prob similar to that.
Off centre shots with zx5 are better than off centre strike with old wilson due to newer tech.

    • They even look like blades in the picture

  • -1

The Callaway Edge set is only a bit more and you get a full set. Why buy this Costco home brand?

    • If full on beginner and want a set to start go the Callaway

For the dollar these are very decent and will last several years and beyond while getting nto golf, better than callaway iron in that set. Then grab an older driver, 3 wood and putter second hand Older but better tect

  • Thanks OP. Just in time for my next PGA tournament.

  • -3

Better value on the side of the road during council cleanup

  • Shaft is too heavy for beginners or oldies.

115g for the regular flex. Unlike most beginners clubs 90g to 105g steel shafts.

Go watch the reviews on YT.

    So brcareful.

racist against the people with the skin colour of the left hand?

available at other costco eg docklands?

    • I’m at Bundamba and they have a decent amount here probably like 30 sets in stiff and regular

  • Heaps of stock at Docklands stiff and reg shaft, just picked up a discounted set

    • +1

Nice!! Value is unreal considering how close they are performance wise to the P790s… For a full set of those your looking over 2 grand.

  • Anyone seen the wedges set in a Costco yet?

    • I got the wedges about 12 months ago, no complaints. They stopped stocking them about 6 months ago.

  • any deals on the callaway set itself? the addition of a driver and putter would help out a full beginner like myself as well.

  • Thank you for posting OP, I had been waiting for these to turn up as I really liked the look and the reviews seemed good.

But am now thinking I should have held out for a fitting and some similarly priced custom Takomo clubs.

Can anyone recommend a club fitting service in Sydney?
Does Costco accept returns for items that have been used or do they need to be as purchased? It would be nice to give the set a go if i have 90 days to make up my mind, but don't want to get locked out of returning.

    • +1

Takoma is 200++ more, delivery would be $90.00.

That's assuming u go for the most forgiving and plenty offset model ie. 101

If u want less offset and smaller head would be 101t or 201 that's like $950 before delivery.

At the end takoma 101 is not the same range as Costco irons.

    • +1

What shafts do you currently have?
Dont have a recommendation but avoid Club Champion. They'll try to say you need some expensive shafts. If you want to DIY estimate, for length, there are charts you can look up with your measurements. If you want to know lie angles, go to a driving range/simulator that has trackman and hit some shots and it will show your lie. If you are hitting toe down, you need more upright lie and heel down means flatter lie. You could even video yourself front on and see if the toe or heel is down at impact. Wont be accurate enough to know how many deg adjustment you need but it will give you an idea of whether you need adjustments or not. Your technique can also affect lie so may benefit more from swing changes too so even if you do buy customised takomos, may be better to see a coach.
There's positives and negatives to these and Takomo. The equivalent to these would be 101T which is in the same players distance category as these and P790. While 101 looks similar, its a game improvement iron.
      Takomo prices are significantly more.
      101 - $786 +77 shipping to Syd = $863 (44% more)
      101T - $947 +77 shipping = $1024 (71% more)
Then add the cost of the fitting you want to get so its even bigger difference
Takomo have limited shaft options that may not suit you anyway. With the price difference, you could get grips changed if you need a bigger size, lie changes or shaft shortening done. Apparently the Lamkin grips Takomo use are B grade ones and some people have been changing them out anyway.
If you need a longer shaft, than obviously better to get it already with longer shaft than add extensions to kirklands.
Takomo 101 dont spin much either from Todays golfer test and 101T lacks a bit of distance.

      • Excellent information and suggestions, thank you for the detailed response!

I didnt realise trackman measures lie angle and that this could be changed after the club was manufactured, though both things make sense.

I've been using Taylormade RAC MB irons from around 2003 with a stiff shaft, but in recent lessons the coach was insistent they were outdated and wrong for me.

        • +1

Trackman can show dynamic lie. You may need to change the screen settings to show it though. Foresight launch monitors can also do it but need dots added to club to track so doesnt work if you bring your own clubs. Any decent shop should be able to adjust loft and lie.

Yes, they are outdated and there could be many reasons why coach said they were wrong for you so impossible for us to guess. Could just be that you dont hit the ball well enough to play them, could be the shaft weight is too heavy or too stiff, something else or all of it.
Google suggest those stiff shafts are 127g which is quite heavy and im guessing you would never be fitted into anything that heavy if you got a fit. Going too light can be bad as well and can affect timing and cause early extension.
The shaft flex is varies depending on the weight. What i mean is that a lightweight shaft, say a 100g KBS tour lite stiff shaft might suit swing speeds from 75-80mph but if you go for the heavier KBS tour, then you'd only need a regular flex which is 110g if you swing 7i at say 77mph.
KBS have a shaft selector. Takomo also have a fitting tool but didnt find it accurate for lie angles and they suggest different shafts to what KBS does but thats probably because Takomo dont supply some flexes.

  • How many at Crossroads? Pic doesn't show bottom of the stack. Cheers OP

    • Asking as I live an hour ago and would prefer to go next weekend

      • There was a lot on Friday. At least 20.

        • Thanks

          • @haydent: Costco has now dropped their online prices if you can't be bothered to drive there , But they are charging 50.00 for delivery . ie. 649 vs 599.
