two months isn't that long to wait. If you really needed a mp3 player you wouldn't need to ask that question, so yes wait the two months and see what happens, the worst is the new ones come out at a ridiculous price, but the old ones would be way cheaper with stores trying to get rid of them and u buy what you would now but cheaper.

Yep. If you can hold out for a month it would be better. Double the memory, being able to take still pictures (and maybe even more features) for the same price as this generations iPod is a no brainer. However, if you truly need an iPod and can't live without it for a month then is obviously a bargain.
how are you going to get double memory? if they release a new one - then the current one is going to be selling around this price after september - but still 8gb model though.
Or you could just spend the extra $40 and get the new version.
got one from HN today, they have the same deal for nano 8gb version, $228 for 8gb touch bundle with $29.95 belkin wall charger..as itouch itself, + for me!thanks man.
Hey guys.. this is my 1st time posting but just thought u guys should know.. at melbourne duty free store (swanston street), an ipod touch 8gb costs 199 including tax, if u can get ur friend to bring it along while hes travelling u could get it 181. not sure if the other duty free stores has it tho.
Last time I went o/s the minimum purchase to claim back GST was $300. And you don't have to buy things from a "duty free store" to claim GST, any purchase from any store with a tax invoice over that $300 threshold will do.

Don't think there's an internal microphone on the iPod touch and therefore you can't make calls on it like the iPhone. You can make calls if you have an external mic or otherwise use for typing conversations.
what sockts are on the ipod touch besides the usual ipod jack for audio?

Yeah they usually bring out a new ipod range in september that includes ipod touches and nanos so it will probably be better waiting if you can.
They usally bring out a new touch to reflect the upgrades in the iphone.
I reckon it's gonna have a new design like the iphone and a camera. It should be thinner than the iphone… hopefully.
Most likely this one will be given the boot when the new one comes out because by then, this one will be two generations old. :o
