i've learnt how to make my own cream liqueur.. quite easy to make

Ingredients condensed milk, whisky, vanilla, double cream, coffee and a blender.

Total cost is about $5-$10 for 1.2 litres

Just looked it up. I am going to give that a go!

      • Same. Looked at the one here. One of the criticisms though was that when the cream and whiskey are mixed, the cream separates. Also, I don't know how long it would last too.

        • 3 months in the fridge according to the recipe I found. And you can just shake up the mixture, no issues.

        • +3

The trick is to allow the separation to take place in the blender before you pulse.. the whiskey sediment is heavier than cream and will set at the bottom of the blender….Use the blender to lighten the whiskey component by pulsing for a second.. allow time for separation, pulse again and repeat. 4-5 squirts of the blender usually does it.

@theguyrules: 3 months, with cream?! but the cream would be use by quicker than that on its own…

        • @chocfrogs456:This is the one I was looking at.. I have a thermochef so I use these recipes. Anyway I'm not too worried about shelf life as it wouldn't last me too long.

        • @chocfrogs456:

The alcohol will probably preserve it?

        • @31mop: hmmm perhaps!

        • +1

@theguyrules: yeah true it will be too delicious!

I did make a batch a few years ago and I think from memory I used evaporated milk instead of fresh cream. Turned out lovely. I just kept the bottles in the fridge and no problems going off- too nice to leave it that long anyway. Was just thinking the other day to make more. I do recommend trying it and enjoy!

    • Great idea, but so much effort, and has a short shelf life. Good to keep a back up baileys for when you don't have time. And then he is there in the cupboard/fridge waiting for you whenever you need her at the last minute!

    • how much whiskey? wouldn't the whisky cost $5-10?

      • +1

I usually have some of the ingredients(if not all) in the cupboard… I have a shitload of Johnny walkers from my previous job… I guess it's closer to $10-$15 if u need to buy all the ingredients

        $2 for 300ml condensed milk
        $2.20 for 600ml double cream
        50c for Splash of Vanilla
$5-$10 for Whiskey (1/5th of 700ml bottle).. I often see Johnny Walker Red label for $30
$1 for Instant Coffee (I have a coffee machine)

        • Vanilla can be made by placing whole beans In a vodka bottle

    • -2

I'll pass on the blender. Rather inedible.

      • -2

Well don't list it as an ingredient. It isn't.

  • Just make it yourself

It's very easy to do and is much cheaper and tastes better

Thanks that is a great price. Nice find. I drive past Dan Murphy's on the way home!

  • Just quickly as I'm new to cashrewards. Once you enter your bank details in does the money automatically deposit into your bank account?

You're too eager buddy. It's gonna be a while before you accumulate enough cashback for a cash out.

      • How much are we talking about?

        • +1

          Minimum payout is $5.01

          https://www.cashrewards.com.au/faq

        • @sky blu:

I've achieved that already. So yes will be expecting some cash out

        • @nightelves:

You have to wait up to 90 days for the transaction to clear, and then you can request a payout to get the money actually transferred to you.

        • @ezzaf:
It takes a couple of months too right? So we are basically waiting for 6 months to get paid?

        • @baldur:

For payout? 5 business days only, not a couple of a months

Once your payment request has been submitted, payments will generally take 5 business days to reach your bank account. There is a minimum of $5.01 that may be requested for each payment; refer a mate and join bonuses are excluded from reaching the $5.01 minimum for redemption.

          Oh OK I knew wrong.

    • Look it up on their FAQs. No it does not, you have to request for it once you get to a certain threshold.

    How do I drink this?

    • +8

      normally with your mouth

    • On ice is nice, or make cocktails with it (Toblerone, adult's milkshake)

    • +3

If you're Old Gregg, from a shoe.

  • Most of my dan murphy's cash rewards have been rejected in the last 6 months so I wouldn't count on getting cashback.

Thanks OP! Bought the normal Bailey's for $22, Salted Caramel Bailey's for $24.90 and as it was missing out the $50 mark by a few dollars, added a cheap-ish bottle of wine. Went through Cashrewards (so hoping for the best) and paid using an AMEX registered for the Dan Murphy's online offer. WINNING!

Looks like it's online only. Full price in store.

    • Thanks, I was about to drive to my local on the way home from work, my local isn't very local so appreciate your comment.

      • If anyone else can confirm that it's more expensive in store then I will edit the title as click & collect only, cheers.

      • This is in their latest catalogue for $22.00 so I can't see how it would be a different price in store.
The catalogue sale is valid from Thu 19 Jan to Sun 29 Jan 2017. Check it out for yourself, it's on their website.

        • Ah ok, must've updated it in store now. When I was there it was full price. It was in the morning of the sale so they were probably slow to update.

  • Mmm creamy beige

  • Aldi still has the Cowboy 2L cask for $18.99, it is very similar.

  • +2

I made 1.4 Litres of homemade cream liqueur on the weekend. It was so yum it didn't last two days in the fridge.

I bought some of the ingredients from Aldi

    Cream 600ml - $2.09
    Sweetened Condensed Milk 400ml- $1.50
    Vanilla - 50c
    Coffee - $1
    Whiskey(Johnny Red at $29 a bottle) - 150ml - $6

Total Cost- $11.09 (which is 4 times the value)

    • oh nice! everyone keeps saying you have to use an Irish whiskey like Jamesons. Red label is good enough?
