    common Tiger, where is $20 deals??

  • Good to travel off-peak with Tiger.
    Lots of passengers have been stranded over Christmas/NY after Tiger cancelled flights, given the choice of waiting up to a few days for another flight home, or paying top dollar for short-notice Qantas tickets. Some of these were already on the plane when the flight was cancelled. Many thousands more had already had their flights cancelled at short notice due due a new plane not being approved, so there was no spare capacity.

      Link to this story? I've not heard of such a 'fiasco' - flown with Tiger often w' no problems.

      • MEL->PER a few days ago. I got it first hand from a unhappy customer. They were on the plane when it was cancelled, and ended up buying Qantas tickets.

        I'm surprised its not in the press. I thought they'd improved.

        The broader picture, the reason they found it so hard to get a new flight would be this:

        Tigerair flights cancelled for thousands of passengers

        So after that, you would imagine every flight is full. Other people with late-cancelled flights would have similar difficulty. If a Qantas/jetstar flight is cancelled, they are more likely to find a replacement aircraft, or put you on another flight within 24 hours.

        I'll still fly Tiger if the price is right, but beware. Unlike full service airlines, they will not find you a seat on other carriers when needed.
        And of course if you miss a connection, its your problem, but I guess we all know that already.

        • Your link is paywalled.

          So with all due respect (It would have been very inconvenient) it was a flight rather than flights

          Much Tiger Air bashing goes on but having flown them numerous times there's not been a problem that other budget carriers are guilty of too.

          @rawm:
          Sorry, as always, try googling the headline to bypass the paywall.

          recap: Many flights were cancelled due to a new aircraft not being approved in time. Lots of passengers rebooked where possible. They were sold well over capacity. So now, if there is a mechanical or staffing problem with a flight, the passengers are screwed. I have first-hand account of one such flight, and airline telling them "tough luck".

          @rawm:
          Yep, thats what I'm saying. "Good to travel off-peak with Tiger." was my first comment.

        • @rawm: I've heard similar stories from a few different people just from this Christmas period alone. I personally would avoid Tiger at all costs.

        • @theguyrules: Well you've got more dollars than sense. No risk, no reward - the OzBargain way. Time to hand in the badge ;)

        • @rawm: Time is money mate.

  • Too expensive, we want below $30 deals like they used to do

  • Price match with Jetstar..
