They never have cheap flight from au to guangzhou…

    • +2

because there is no incentive for them to do so. There is no competition on direction flights.

    • I purchased Sydney to Guangzhou return in last Virgin Sale. $280 return.

      • Where and how many transfer?

        • +1

Singapore transfer, a couple of hours. Sydney, SG, Guangzhou, and back. August in my case, but were plenty of tickets in that deal.

        • @tomokaicho:

          geez that was dirt cheap.

          wish i had purchased that.

  • Gee so cheap wish I am beijingnese

    • -1

      Or Pekingese ;)

      • actually i prefer pomeranian.

        • -1

Me too, if it's a choice between the two.

      • -1

        Or Peking Duck ?

  • +1

As this flight transit at Guangzhou, may I get off/on at Guangzhou? I think for the outbound leg, it will be ok, but I don't know whether I can do that with the return leg.

    • +2

on the website you can change the booking to be a multi-stop so you can pick when and for how long to stay.

it does bump the price to $431, but still a very good price.

Does anybody know the overall process/price for obtaining a VISA if you're an Australian citizen? Thanks in advance!

Heaps of trade shows in Beijing if you want to add this to your trip: http://www.eventseye.com/fairs/cy1_trade-shows-beijing.html

    • +2

When I went there a few years ago, I think it was around $130ish AUD for a double entry visa.

      • Looks like I found my answer: https://www.travelchinaguide.com/embassy/australia/visa-appl…
        Single-Entry with 3-month Validity AUD 60
        Double-Entry with 6-month Validity AUD 90

        • Note that theres also a $30 processing fee regardless of which type of visa you get.

        • u need to add the handling service fee, totalling $109.5 for single entry

        • +3

Those prices are correct, but they exclude the $49.50 application fee. So the prices are $109.50 and $139.50 respectively.

If you go in to the visa centre, you can have just one person go (provided all forms are filled out completely and correctly). But allow 4-5 hours to do with the queue time and the time it takes staff to double check your application is completed (before they accept it).

They need to hang on to your passport and then next week all going well, you get your approval back the following week along with your passports.

          That's for Melbourne

          @foundit:

Sydney is much more efficient in my experience (even though some have warned of long waiting times).

Ive applied twice in the last 2 years and never waited more then 15 minutes to submit (5mins for the staff to check) and even less for collection. The standard processing time is 4 business days in Sydney.

Is the 4-5hours wait when you have a prebooked time for submission via the webpage?

        • @ash2000:
Ah no, I did not have a pre-booked time … is that free in Sydney?

      • +8

        $130 for a double entry ….. giggle…..

    • +3

Before getting a Visa for China, check and see if you're eligible for the APEC card: https://www.border.gov.au/Busi/Trav/APEC

      $200, lasts 5 years, handy!

Hey Rep, do you have any specials to Shanghai or Hong Kong around April?

    • also interested in HK deals

    • Interested in specials to Shanghai from brissy too please! :)

  • Hey Rep, do you have any specials around September,October?

  • +1

You'd think that getting to China would be cheaper from Sydney than from Melbourne.
(Let's see who volunteers to explain to me basic economics - demand/supply etc)

    • -1

Based on your logic the price for trans-Tasman flight should be less than 150 return? :)

  • +4

$110 to enter the country?! that's a bit of a rort.

    • +1

Yep, Imagine if Australia charged the Chinese that much. There'd be no deficit.

      • +12

They already imagined it, and a little bit more. We charge all Chinese tourists $135. (unless they're transiting)

        http://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa/Fees

        • +9

Ok well that makes us just as bad as them. I propose a visa truce.

        • +2

@Tasmaniac: no fkn way. we do shitloads better out of it. Truckloads of Chinese tourists come here and spend up big.

        • +2

They already imagined it, and a little bit more. We charge most tourists $135. (unless they're transiting)

          http://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa/Fees

and also charge ~7000$ for spouse visa

Worst of all charge .98% credit card processing fee

        • +3

hahah well my opinion just changed like 5 times during this thread :P

      • +2

You wish.. Australia has a $135 visa application fee for Chinese

    • $110 to enter the country?! that's a bit of a rort.

Unfortunately it's the same in other countries requiring a visa ….. Vietnam is AUD $95 and India is US$60 (just for VoA electronic verification ).

Even you can take off in Australia, you may not land in Bejing. The smog is too thick to blow you away.

  • +1

Be sure to get your application for your property purchase in early with the Chinese Foreign Investment Review Board to avoid disappointment.

  • +1

How many masks do I need to bring on the trip?

    • 3 per day. breakfast lunch and dinner

  • +1

It's a good price but consider the pollution… Sure it's probably worse in winter than spring but it's really no joke. I was in Xi'an (Beijing is generally worse than Xi'an) just last week and the air quality index was mid 200s (very unhealthy) and my lungs were feeling it, my chest felt a bit heavy. I'm not asthmatic.

    • +1

That's quite high….. Considering Sydney sits about 20 on the same index. But it's the luck of the draw and the season you go. I've been to Beijing when the index was around 40 (Perfect blue clear skies), and again when it was well over 200 (dark and miserable ).

    • 200 is very normal. 500 is not rare now.

    • Nice price. After 2 winters in Ulaanbaatar, all I was doing was dreaming of breathing Beijing air! Haha!

  • +2

    comes with free smog

    • +1

Not quite free, you have to contribute to it by flying in.

  • All I can say is you get what you pay for with China Southern,
you can read a review here
    http://volanti.com.au/reviews/china-southern/hong-kong-to-be…

    • I'm yet to fly China Southern but a quick search shows they are a 4 star airline according to Skytrax.

  • as a chinese, i dont even want to go back to china….the air is polluted badly……

  • +1

Thanks IWTF! For those complaining about the pollution just head to the smaller cities as soon as you arrive in Beijing and you'll be fine.

  • as a Chinese, if you want to taste the purest smog, then go to north China in the winter

  • are these legit now?
