FREE Lynda.com Access for QLD, SA, Melbourne + Other Libraries

600

Register for a temporary New York library account (https://www.nypl.org/library-card - "Researchers Visiting the Library from Outside of New York State") and get free access to lynda.com tutorials (perfect for comparing notes with Udemy entrepreneurs). The steps are outlined in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PG7STIDWnGo

Note: So as not to ruin it for everybody or make Microsoft bankrupt, please only create an account if you are planning to visit New York Library in the near future. Perfect for when you're busting (http://www.eurocheapo.com/blog/flushed-in-new-york-tips-for-…), or ghostbusting (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYjFKsJjCP0).

Moreover, many libraries (SA, Melb, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbXz3MXx2DU) and probably most universities already give free access to lynda.com.

Seems like it's been available in every city except Sydney?

As has already been alluded to, many public libraries offer free Lynda access - so, as an FYI for those who aren't aware,
South Australian public library cardholders can access lyndaLibrary for free here: http://www.libraries.sa.gov.au/page.aspx?u=1602 :)

All the instructions are on the page…

Thanks to peterpeterpumpkin and his 'New York Lynda Deal' for jogging my memory about the QLD deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/285930

Do we need one for each state etc? :/

    • Tony555 have you got this working through the lynda.com app? I can log in no problem through browser, but I can't get a by of the 4 login options in the app to work. Cheers.

      • Sorry for my late reply…only just saw your msg. When I use Lynda on the computer, it won't let me login if I go directly to lynda.com. I have to go through the library login every time. I reckon this has something to do with your issue with the app

        • Yeah there are organisation login options in the app but none work :( oh well can't complain too much for free, but means it's pretty unusable on the go - would be awesome to have the off-line capabilities for the car, gym etc.

  • Good, going to New York in less than 2 weeks.

  • Will the content be different if compared with the VIC library membership?

  • Looks like my old Melbourne City Library account is still active after all these years and lets me log into Lynda.com without any trouble. Thanks for the reminder OP!

Thank you so much for this. I joined up via the Queensland State Library. I had no idea this resource was available. Was a big fan of Lynda.com whilst I was learning photography and photoshop.

  • Any WA state Library links for Lynda account sign up

  • I'm assuming this is only temporary access to Lynda.com, because when the temporary library account expires so will access to Lynda?

    • Yes, for NYPL the access is temporary. The author of the video believes that temporary access last 30 days.

Temporary library members will have to reapply as necessary.

  • No access for NSW?

  • Weren't they just robbed of all their user details?

  • I've got this after trying to log in into lynda.com using instructions provided here with my newly registred temporary library card number:
    http://www.libraries.sa.gov.au/page.aspx?u=1602

    "Permission denied
Your authentication was successful. However, you do not have access to this resource. If you believe you have arrived on this page in error, please contact your organization or school's IT or help desk for further assistance."

Apparently temporary card numbers can't be used to access lynda.com

    • NYPL has recently updated their systems as well to disallow temporary card holders.

  • Is there a way to watch these videos on the phone? I tried through the Web browser and it doesn't seem to be built for it (everything was plain text)..

    • They have an app don't they?

  • is there a way to have a free online library card (without resident-ship ) other than NYPL

    • I don't know of any.

Most uni students get it for free though.

  • My NYPL subscription is still working more than 30 days later. For now…

    • Annnnd it just stopped working after 44 days…

  • New York Library has now cancelled access to Lynda.com with temporary accounts.
