    I agree this is the best music player out there and well worth the money. Bass output with the right phone beats the total shit out of your eardrums.

  • Well, I have been using Android phone for more than 3 years and that is the 1st app I paid, simply because I want a better player than Google Music.

    BTW where I can find the list of supported formats?
    Nvm, I found it. http://powerampapp.com/

    • Same. It's the best among all the music players I used..

  • Purchased using my google reward credits. Thanks OP.

    An amazing price for an amazing music player, Great find op!

  • Is there any way of using my Google music sub with this?

    • No, unfortunately. The developers of the app said that they are working on an update to support streaming services, but that was ages ago.

  • Can take a bit to get used to using. But once set up correctly, is awesome! Best purchase I've made. Totally worth the 20c.

    Shuttle wasn't really doing it for me. Happy to take a punt on this. Thanks OP.

    • +1

      Shuttle was awesome until I found PowerAmp haha.

    • Try BlackPlayer, free version is tops.

  • Thanks OP

  • For those with a well setup iTunes library, does the app sync playlists and other metadata at all?

  • Can someone tell me why it needs access to my call information?

    • +5

      According to faq, call information or READ_PHONE_STATE - to be able to pause (and then resume playing) when phone is ringing/call is in progress

      Link

      • Hey thanks. :)

        • Its funny… you would think this is something that should be done at the OS level.
          But no, Android gives you much finer-grade control over what Apps do, and what they can do.

          Ofcourse this leads to a clusterphuck 6/10 times due to lazy development and Google's carefree curation.
          Unless your "superphone" is running vanilla stock/dumb feature phone.
          Or you customise every inch of it, to get it to run the way you want to.

          I can see the appeal of an iPhone after this.
          Even though I'm rocking a Nexus.

  • thanks, bought

  • Does the full version apply to your entire Google account or is it limited to the device it is installed on?

    • +1

      Not limited to the device.

      • Thanks, I'm in. Cheers

    • all paid apps apply to your google account

      • I've had some apps that seem to only unlock sections on a device before.

  • thanks, just bought. very nice app

  • $5.99 for NZ :(

    • -1

      So post it on n bargain eh?

  • Bought, I will enjoy setting this up so I can get decent sound out of my phone, thanks OP.

  • +1

    This app is great, the only thing I'd love for this is a decent car skin with enlarged controls and song readout - all the skins on the Play store unfortunately use the same format which prioritises the album art.

  • +2

    Just a heads up for anyone unaware - as great as the app is, there's still no support for streaming services, including music stored locally for offline use.

    • -1

      That's what ES file explorer is for. :)

      • I have ES Explorer, and no idea how it will make Poweramp recognise my stored Google Music offline music?

        • It may not but it can access your locally stored files (PC, NAS etc) and play them with it's own music player. If that's what you wanted to do?

        • @EightImmortals: lol, no. My comment was about Poweramp and streaming services support, not any other app.

    • Thank you. I'll stick with Media Monkey for now.

  • would this make the music louder on my headphones? some reason my phones volume doesnt seemt to be very loud.

    • Do you mean audio output from the phone's speakers or through headphones/earphones?

    • +1

      You can increase/decrease the preamp volume (usually sits at 0). This would give you a volume bump but it would not be overwhelming I guess.

    I paid full for this app a few years ago, great app. Highly recommended for anyone who is serious about the quality of the sound. If you want to get a bit adventurous I would suggest you try the v3 Alpha build which is pretty stable. I have been using it for a while and loving it.

    The only problem with this app is that it does not support Android Auto. The only decent music app that supports local files that works with Android Auto is "jetAudio HD Music Player". I use the free version for now, which is pretty annoying with adds covering the whole screen but the quality is really good. Free version got the 13 band EQ with output profiles.

    • What sort of features does the alpha build have that the normal build doesn't have?

      • +1

        For me, sound output profiles is the main feature that I use a lot. You can have different EQ profiles for Headphones, Bluetooth…etc.

        Major features, tho I am not a huge fan, is the new visualization engine. New 64 bit audio engine.

        Full feature list:
        * new audio engine
        * Poweramp now uses 32-bit float sample representation
        * Poweramp core DSP now uses 64-bit float internal math, helps a lot for accurate high amplification of basses
        * Reverb with presets, improved StereoX effects
        * Tempo control
        * mp3, aac, ogg vorbis, opus and other lossy formats now decoded directly to 32-bit float representaion (no intermediate conversions)
        * opus, tak, mka, dsf, dff formats support
        * Poweramp now always properly fades in/out and ramps volume changes to avoid clicks and pops during any transitions (resume/pause/seek/etc.)
        * Poweramp now applies gapless smoothing between gapless tracks
        * Poweramp now always uses own resampler
        * optional SoX very high quality resampler
        * output Dithering options
        * OpenSL optimized output
        * support for 3rd party plugins (DSP/Decoder/Output)
        * visualizations
        * full support for milkdrop presets
        * v1 and v2 (with shaders) presets supported. Support for v2 presets is best on OpenGL ES 3.0 enabled devices
        * milkdrop presets can be loaded from sdcard and downloaded as APKs from Play
        * support for 3rd party preset APKs
        * spectrum visualizations
        * main player right drawer for fast Equ/DSP/Visualizations access
        * many other changes, more changes are planned

        • Would this be a free upgrade when it is completed?

        • +1

          @EightImmortals: One of the moderators of the forum says:

          You can install it over your existing v2 installation (your purchase and settings will be carried over).

          Tho it doesn't clearly say the new release will be free for everyone who got v2.

  • +7

    I dont know if I need it or not but I bought it because 20 cents.

    • Says every ozbargainer ever.

  • Does it do gapless properly with opus files yet? It didn't last time I used it.

  • I wish they would introduce bookmarking to the app so I could resume from where I left off when last listening to an album. By that I mean resume from the album even if I have listened to 4 or 5 others in between.

  • Is there any method that could apply the sound profile made by this app to other music player? After listening to this, my google play music now sounds like crap :(

    • I know, it is tough to go back to other music players such as Google music which doesn't have a proper EQ. You can use an EQ app instead and run it in the background.

      Best option is to install a system level app such as "AudioFX" or "Viper", but you need root access to install. Trust me, nothing beats Viper.

  • Some people say this is the best player, some people say black player is the best player. Since it's only 20 cents and black player free version is already good, I'll have both. Thanks to OP

  • How does this compare to PlayerPro? (Both rated 4.5 on Google Play)

  • aww, just bought it last night at $3.99 :(

  • Bought this a while back. It's even worth it @ full price.

  • Thanks Op. I bought it and tried it against the PlayerPro and this one is much much better.

    • I use PlayerPro which I really like. What makes Poweramp better? Never know, I could be convinced to switch.

      • +1

        It Sounds much better. you can try the trial and see the difference. PlayerPro is too flat.

    this is on sale every other day..

  • It comes up as $3.99 for me

    Whoops, probably gone now.
