Swift Key - All Themes Free

3520

Hey guys, 1st time posting. But all themes on swift key are now completely free for the holiday season. Not to sure when it ends but most likely until the end of the month?

To make it easier like millzy said Buy all Packs first and when buying the individual themes, press purchase on 3-5 different themes as quickly as quick as you can. They usually go through, saves some time.
and Thanks OP!

Sounds like they'll always be free now.

  • +2

    COOL
make sure you register so those free themes will be saved on your account just incase you change mobile phone or reformat..

  • +5

    Check out the Ninja Pro!

    • Just had a look at the themes and found "Purchased" against Ninja Pro. Must have been another freebie never used

      • +1

Same here, not that I used it..
There is a Ninja Trainer as well, to train you to use the label-less keyboard.

  • Berry is still my favourite theme

  • +1

Excellent find! Just downloading every theme for the future.

    • +5

      The OZB way.

  • Is there an easy way to add them all?

    • You can get the "packs" but Im not sure if that covers all the themes.

      • Nah unfortunately they don't. That's the first thing I did.

  • nice one op

  • Is it just visual gimmicks or makes a functional difference as well?

    • +1

Visual gimmicks, but some colours are more pleasing to the eye than others which in turn might make you type faster? thus making a functional difference as well.

  • Cheers OP :D

I can't imagine life without Swiftkey. Cheers OP

Until you try Swype and/or you try Microsoft WordFlow

      • +3

You say it like I haven't. I don't really do swipe gesture typing but love SK's predictive and learning abilities.

        • +2

+1 I seem to struggle with gesture typing for some reason, but the freakishly good prediction from SwiftKey makes up for it.

        • I use it bilingual and I cannot agree more with the freakishness of the prediction, accented characters included.
          Invaluable for me.

    • I tried 'Swiftkey' for a day yesterday, and i found i can't live without 'Swype', Swype is so much better - I found Swiftkey to be terrible it never guessed the right work i swiped (even simple words) and its much harder to correct.
I might be free but do yourselves a favor and try Swype imo it leaves Swiftkey for dead.

      • +2

The question is did you type that with Swype or Swiftkey? I'm not sure it picked all the right works and are you free?

I also prefer Swype or Google keyboard but I tried Swiftkey a while ago and maybe did not give it much chance.

  • -2

They are about 15 themes priced 0 dollars.. I did not find ninja pro.. In that case I am guessing not all themes are free

    • Maybe part of the "We're also offering you an exclusive theme only available to people who have purchased a theme in the past – and you're one of them! Tap here on your mobile device to get the sleek, one-of-a-kind theme"?

  • +1

Damn, Apple only has like 10 themes..

    • +1

I count 13 themes for Apple at least on that web page supplied in the thread deal. Not surprising though that Android has far more themes available, Android is far more popular than Apple.

      • No, it's because android has been around fro much longer. All themes that have come out since iOS supported custom keyboards have been available on both.

        • -1

Actually the other way around. The first Apple iPhone was released in 2007. The first commercially available Android phone (HTC Dream) was released in 2008.

        • @hollykryten: Custom keyboard support was only introduced in 2014

iOS has actually been around for longer then android.

  • Thanks OP, great first post. Long time user of Swiftkey and downloaded a stack of themes.

  • +5

There's also an additional theme available with the promo code 'SURPRISE'.

    • This is the one mentioned as an 'exclusive' theme in the full email (see first comment).
Looks a bit (okay, a lot) like what's shown here.

  • I love Switfkey this is a great find OP. Does anyone know how to change the crappy android emojis to the iOS ones?

  • Great post! I paid for SwiftKey before it become free like 5yrs ago. Great program. Also have swype free too.

There are a fair few themes.

    Which are the best ones?!

    • +1

      Ninja PRO :D

      • Lol yep using it now. Making heaps of errors but swift key auto corrects them for me!

  • +2

It's bizarre, I feel SwiftKey is better but the majority of reddit prefer google keyboard to it mostly be a use it chooses and corrects your words better.

    • +1

Swiftkey's swiping ability is very sub par compared to Swype. I also dislike that you only have 3 options per word.

Entering URLs with swiftkey is not good. It keeps auto correcting your dots by adding a space and capitalising the next letter. Swype can at least tell when you're entering a URL and not touch it.

I have not used Google keyboard so I can't comment. But I like swype and my only gripe is the lack of ability to add a row of numbers, which you can do in Swiftkey.

      • You're probably basing that on a much older version of SwiftKey… it has had URL mode (no spaces after dots when sentence starts with a www) since July 2014.

        • You might be right.

You still might have problems with email addresses though, or websites without www in them.

I remember switching back to it a year ago for a while and I couldn't stand it so I went back to swype. The auto correct was not good when swiping. I don't check word for word as I type, so I don't notice that the sentence is completely borked until I read over all of it at the end. This rarely happens with swype. It has a much higher accuracy in guessing what you meant. With swiftkey, I sometimes do it slowly to make sure it is 100% accurate swiping, and it still chooses the wrong word.

        • @lostn: I find it's a personal thing. The predictions from SwiftKey are much better than the predictions from Swype from my experience. I'd imagine the different algorithms fit different people better.

Although more recently, I think my typing habits have changed and SwiftKey still thinks I hit buttons incorrectly that I don't anymore, so that can be annoying :( I need to figure out if I can reset all the adaptive keyboard stuff so the keys reset to their proper positions.

        • @Domingo: Hmm, that's interesting.

Do you type by touch or swiping? I find swiftkey very good at auto correct when touching, but when swiping, it's horrendous. By horrendous I mean maybe 80% accuracy as opposed to 99%.

When I first learned to swipe, I was actually using swiftkey not swype, and I was very impressed with how accurate it was. Then I switched to Swype for no reason other than to try it out and see what it's like on the other side. Didn't notice any difference. It wasn't until I switched back to Swiftkey that I noticed how much worse it was. I thought the two were equivalent. Swiftkey wasn't as accurate as I remembered it. The amount of errors I had to correct was quite bad. Maybe it was always this way and I just remembered wrong. I doubt I started typing worse, because when I switched to swype, the accuracy went back up. I don't need to correct words near as often. With swiftkey I would correct their "correction", and it would still be wrong, so I'd have to correct it again, after 3 or 4 times I'd get frustrated, give up and resort to typing that word letter by letter if it doesn't appear in one of the 3 choices you get.

Also, you get a lot more word choices with swype.

        • how do you enable url mode?

      • In Swype, numbers can typed using the Qwerty row of keys, e.g. Typing "ert" will bring up "345" among the suggestions. Just tap to select.

Sometimes you might need to swipe for more suggestions to see the number. Doing this is still easier than switching between alphabet and number keys. If you type the same number often, Swype will bring it towards the first suggestions.

This works on both Android and iOS, though it appears the Android version has better implementation.

        • It does appear on selections, but I think it's quicker to long press. If there's a lot of numbers to type, it would be quicker to switch to numpad.

        • @lostn:

Actually, if there are many numbers to type, using the Qwerty row is faster.

E.g. You can type 6400 in 5 taps: yrpp (tap to select)

Switching to the number keys to type it would be 6 taps + context switching.

Long press will be even slower because of the wait on every single number.

        • @OzBen: Wouldn't switching to numpad take the same amount of time (if not less) than searching for the selection and needing to swipe through the list to find it? You still need that extra tap when you select the number from the word selection menu.

For long press I set the delay to the shortest, which I think is 200 ms.

The difference either way shouldn't be big, but an extra row for numbers is the best solution. Swype has been resistant to this suggestion though so it will probably never happen (officially).

        • @OzBen: You should learn the gestures: use numpad is swipe from Swipe key to 5 (ie. T) key. Or you can long tap the mode switch key. All the gestures are listed in the in-built side menu/help. But I still wish they had an option to display a number row too.

        • @lostn:

Sorry, I should add, for the numbers I type, they tend to be right there on the first suggestions, requiring only 1 tap to select, no swiping.

A number row would be most ideal no doubt. It looks like Swype is trying to avoid that by design.

Just explaining the options available, in case someone finds it useful.

        • +1

          @MiniMoo:

          Yes, Swype gestures are superb!

"Swype > 5" for the numeric keypad is my next preference after Qwerty number entry.

I often use "Swype > Shift" for changing the case of a word.

I also use "Swype to Symbols key" for the arrow keys a bit.

These are Android only, I believe.

    • +1

I prefer Google Keyboard. It's predictions and usability is much better in my opinion. It also doesn't bog down my 6P.

All SwiftKey has going for it are themes.

  • Interesting. Because I spent a lot of Telstra Billing credit buying them all when I couldn't think of what else to buy. Guess I didn't have to.

  • Purchasing all these themes is such a slow process. You can't just add them all to cart and then purchase in one go. You have to do them individually and there is a painfully long load every time. You can buy packs to save time, but that only covers half the themes.

    • +2

It did take some time but I got them in lots of 3-5.

      1. Buy all Packs first.
      2. When buying the individual themes, press purchase on 3-5 different themes as quickly as quick as you can. They usually go through, saves some time.

      and Thanks OP!

      • +1

This tip was immensely helpful and I think it should be edited into the post listing.

  • Thanks OP.

  • Yay, all the themes.

  • Thanks, OP. Just reinstalled to take advantage of this deal

Uninstalled originally because it was slowing down my 6P something shocking.

  • Good find.

  • When I was trying to install a theme, I got a message saying that the keyboard theme will collect all the text you type, like personal data and credit card data info etc (the only exception was passwords). Is that the norm, did everyone get that message? I never used this app before so I don't know anything about it.

    • It is the norm with 3rd party keyboards. You have to trust them, I'm afraid!

But once you've used a swipe keyboard for a day or two, it will be hard to go back! I love being able to type quickly with my left hand while lying in bed half submerged in the pillow, peering at my phone with one eye.

Surely that's worth giving away your credit card details for, haha ;)

(See my note recommending Gboard, though. Surely you can trust Google!)

      • +1

        Ta.

There were a number of other apps that I passed on for similar reasons. They're probably harmless, but I am that paranoid, so I will do some more research before I fully install this. I don't type/text that much on my phone anyway so, yeah.

        • +2

According to this, re Gboard, "Right Now, Google Isn’t Logging Your Keystrokes"…

          http://www.iphonehacks.com/2016/05/10-cool-things-gboard.htm…

        • And also, re Swiftkey (which is now owned by Microsoft), this interesting post at https://zeltser.com/third-party-keyboards-security/ writes:

"SwiftKey states that the data transferred to SwiftKey Cloud is transmitted to their servers “over encrypted channels” and is stored in a “fully encrypted” manner".

Which , unless they're lying, should ease our minds.

        • @dccardwell: My phone is Android, with Google keyboard, so I hope they aren't logging Android keystrokes. Lol

        • @AussieDaddy: In that case, you're probably already used to swipe typing. And not much point switching to Swiftkey unless there's something about it that I don't know. Which is quite possible!

        • +1

@dccardwell: I would rather have any of my data not stored anywhere else than in my phone. They should at least give people the option to opt out, and still download the app. Now if you don't agree to the privacy invasion, then you can't get it. No, thanks.

        • +1

@dccardwell: Yeah, the one I am using isn't bad, and I really prefer using my PC more than my phone and laptop most of the time anyway, so I would stick to my Google keyboard for now.

        • @AussieDaddy: I think some of the predictive work is done in the cloud, so to speak, as it would suck up too much of your phone's CPU, or perhaps use too much memory, to do the work in-phone. As it says here, slightly more clearly:

"A legitimate keyboard app might send keystrokes to its server to perform intelligent analysis that is best conducted in the “cloud,” such as predict upcoming letters, store user typing patterns or perform large-scale lexicon analytics. Some third-party keyboards will function without their users granting them “full access;” however this will disable some of the features that might have drawn the users to the app in the first place."

Another reason is more obvious - the Google built-in search in Gboard.

If the data is encrypted during transmission, it would at least prevent keystroke harvesting software from picking it up. Unless such software is already on your device as malware, in which case it you're already screwed in that regard.

        • @dccardwell:

Some third-party keyboards will function without their users granting them “full access".

Yup! That's one of the reasons I am often paranoid about these free third-party apps and software. Nothing comes without a catch. There's always a catch somewhere.

        • +1

          @AussieDaddy: Install Afwall.

  • +1

Nice deal, but since I switched to Gboard (on iOS) there's no going back to Swiftkey, which I used to love, but which was always buggy on my iPhone 6.

Gboard has been 100% reliable for me and just runs silently without getting in the way. And better (it seems to me) at doing what it does.

  • Thanks OP, great find.

  • As soon as I go to theme packs, SwiftKey crashes unfortunately stopped….

  • Sidenote.. my stock Galaxy keyboard did weird things with the Lastpass browser. SwiftKey was fine.

  • Ninja pro is so damn good

  • +1

350 upvotes, Holy smoke. Do you even need one of these?
I never changed the theme, am I smokingly missing something? Can someone please tell me why is it so popular? Why is it worth the time catching these themes one by one?

    • Well its free.. but people do like to change themes sometimes after one gets boring? You also don't need to download one theme at a time, try to press download on several different ones as quickly as you can to download several at a time.

  • BUBBLE THEME IS SO COOL

  • Just found out clear cache app and database if your SwiftKey is playing up on the store. Managed to download all the themes without crashing. Shipping on this is worse than swype

  • Got excited….until realised I have swype and not swiftkey ugh
