yeh why not…? roadbikes and cx bikes employ disc brakes these days. its been proven tech in mtb for ages and clearly has useful applications on other types of bikes
Because of weight and air resistance, discs are not normally used on road bikes. The advantages they bring to MTB do not apply.
I can see it being useful on touring bikes, where rims can overheat on braked mountain descents. Not something likely to happen in Australia :)
are you sure…?

…lots of advantages from what ive read….
Oh dear, I stand corrected. Is it a fad, or are they actually better than calipers now?
@manic: well i only have my mtb experience to speak of…my roadbike has calipers, if i had my way id grab a cx bike with disc brakes without hesitation.
but generally speaking braking at the hub/disc is far superior than rim based braking… better functionality in most conditions, lower maintenance, you dont wear out rims & braking performance is not effected by wheel trueness or rim condition, better control & modulation etc.
some weight penalty but disc brakes are getting lighter all the time …
Any bargains?
