Wasnt even aware that an ULTRA version existed.
So it lights flares and posts homophobic messages against smurfs on Facebook?
Seeing as Google double the price almost, I am hoping we can still get Chromecast standard for less just for those who dont have 4k?
I read only diff between models is 4k.
And it also has ethernet capabilities, even though the whole point of this is wireless streaming …
I think the second gen also had Ethernet capabilities. I think it's attached to the power plug from memory or maybe you need to buy a separate adaptor.
Why does goodguys not have this $25 code come in handy or even the chromecast audio why don't they have that, they are owned by jb hifi now and jb has the chromecast audio.
i tried the chromecast but found it sucked not having a remote. assuming i'm in the minority as they are bloody popular but for me, having to find a phone, unlock it, open the app, connect to the cast to get access to pause/fwd/rwd etc was a pain in the ass.
It supports HDMI-CEC, so you can use your TV remote control to interact with Chromecast (assuming your TV supports CEC, and most do)
well shit that woulda been good :/
But isn't it not fully remote compatible/limited in function via HDMI-CEC meaning that it can only do basic things from the remote like play, pause, rewind etc? Can you navigate the menus etc?
What menus?
Correct that's all you can do but you can switch inputs eyc.
I think you're missing the point entirely, as you need a phone in the first place to cast the content.
im not missing any point. for us - the home theatre experience is crap when you need to take out your phone for any reason.
a remote and a big screen interface is the only way to go in my opinion (and why we have a roku 4)
Yes but you can't use the Chromecast at ALL without pulling out a phone.
That's the point of Chromecast, if you don't like the idea of using your phone to control the experience I have no idea why you'd even have one.
I completely understand your point otherwise.
The Chromecast Ultra makes no logical sense to buy. If your tv supports 4k then you most certainly already have the usual apps installed on your tv (Netflix, youtube) that you can use to watch 4k content. If you are using this on a tv that isn't a smart tv or doesn't support streaming apps nativley then your tv will most likely not support 4k making this useless. Save $50 and buy the regular Chromecast
That's incorrect. My 4k TV isn't smart and many can't support 4k YouTube or Netflix from their apps
Yes that's true. I have a Seiki 4k tv that's a dumb tv and this would be useful for my bedroom. And I also have 2014 Panasonic 4k tv and YouTube app only does 1080p but Netflix does 4k.
What about those of us who bought the Bauhn 65" 4K tv for $800 from Aldi this year? The thing has a POS UI and remote so having an easy way to stream 4K content to the panel via hdmi 2.0 is actually really useful.
This. Will be getting a Chromecast Ultra for this TV as well.
Also the fact that the majority of people don't have an internet connection capable of streaming 4K content makes this a pretty stupid purchase at this point in time
TV Apps are rubbish in my experience, I don't see why you'd bother when you can do it all remotely with an intuitive ui on your phone.
You obviously come from 2010.
Using anything but a Chromecast is 2010 to me.
ArsTechnica have slammed this product and rightly so. Saying you have to have a pretty dumb 4K tV to even contemplate this.
At least it's made Officeworks lower the price on the Chromecast 2. Now listed at $47.
the Mi tv box, looks like a better deal, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/277438 as media player that is.
Why isnt the technology there for the chrome-cast to get all its power requirements straight from the HDMI port?

Do they sell anime?
