Could be useful for a quick US Netflix movie (vpn) or testing a website.
Sign into that site with your github account, and within 5 clicks you have a server running

Looks good to use with a throwaway account.
Mostly due to this reason:
This application will be able to list and see private details for your public SSH keys. Public keys provide SSH access to repository content.
…
Oh I figured out why they need it, but it's a bit iffy. They could just let you copy and paste the SSH Keys that you want to put instead of linking to github.
Got it to work.
I just created a throwaway github account for mine, and generated my own keypair with openssl
How is this different to someone creating a Dropbox account/iCloud account/OneDrive account?
Well this is a private server with root access, you can do anything you want on it (except send emails, looks like he's blocked smtp, with good reason).
You could host a website on it for example. Or if you're slightly dodgy, you could really slowly mine some crypto or seed some torrents.
I'll be using this to test my apps once my digital ocean credit expires (if this service still exists).
Dropbox, etc are built ontop of servers like this*
*That's not entirely true anymore
https://dply.co/help/faq:
You can find DigitalOcean coupons on the net that give you 2 months of free VPS. Besides, it is only $0.0007 per hour for a 512MB/20GB server, so the value of this deal is actually less than 1 cent.
