Will this be a recurring discount? (at the end of the 12 month prepaid period)

    • No it is not a recurring discount. At the end of the 12 month period, you will be moved to the respective month to month plan. For full T&Cs on the promo, you can check out this link https://www.vaya.net.au/?option=Promo%20Terms%20and%20Condit…

Why existing customers can't get this deal ? I have been with you and Live connect for over 5 years or longer. I am sure you can take care of us.
If not we can go to other telco and may never come back ;) I am sure everyone here feels the same as me ? hit like if you agree guys.

        • +2

yeah seems most company forget the existing customers are MUCH MORE important than new customers. unless its newly opened company, say vaya has 100,000 existing customers and by excluding them from this deal they now have 100,000 UNhappy customers and probably 20,000 new customers joining.

        • @dragonindespair: To the point we do not need to explain that to Vaya. see what they are doing to get new customers and trying to lock them in 12 month plan. so they don't leave !!! Doh !!!!!!!!!! helloooooo we are with you even if we finished contract years ago.
so dear Vaya so suddenly we are not pretty enough is it ? so now your are louring new kid's on the block …

        • @dragonindespair: I'll be moving Telcos after this stunt. Screw Vaya

        • +1

          Port out.

        • +1

          @morgs640: No you won't.

        • +1

Vaya treated me poorly. I ported out this year and will never look back.

        • @dragonindespair:

But that 100,000 while unhappy would likely stay with them regardless.

Even then, if they did have 100k customers, only a small percentage would even know about the new deal.

        • This questions seems to come around every time and pretty sure by now everyone knows the answer.

Existing customers liked the offer when they first joined and are still happy with it(or else they would have ported out). Limiting it to new customers saves them money.

EDIT: Lol forgot this thread is over a month old.

      • Hi Ian, I have 3 phone sims under one account, if I ported them over to Vaya would I be eligible for the xmas deal for all 3 phone numbers? Your advice would be greatly appreciated.Regards.

      • That link is slightly ambiguous.

Can you clarify what it means?

I think it is saying that after 12 months the price remains at $22/m but the data drops back to 2 GB instead of 8 GB?

This will make the difference in whether I sign up or not.

If it stays at $22 @ 8 GB perpetually then I'm going to switch over, if it drops back to 2 GB after 12 months then I'm not switching.

        • I'm pretty sure they'll keep you on 8GB but the discount will go away, so you'll be paying $36

(and note that the initial discount price is now $33, not $22)

        • @abb: when you put the code in at checkout it'll adjust to $22

        • @djyoshii: Ah, thanks. It's almost tempting enough to port back to Vaya. Almost.

        • @abb: just signed up yesterday to get it delivered by Christmas, hoping it'll come on Thurs as I finish up then.

  • Any 1300 or 13 phone call will be included? Any overseas phone call will be included? Do these unlimited talks include mobile and home phone lines ?

    • Those numbers weren't included in the past

      • Hi there, 1300 and 13 numbers are included, you can also call home phone lines and mobiles. As for international calls, these are not included - feel free to check out our international rates here https://www.vaya.net.au/?option=International%20Call%20Rates. If you are looking to make overseas calls then it may be worthwhile looking into amaysim plans www.amaysim.com.au as Vaya mobile plans are more suited for domestic use only.

  • I would like to know the reviews of my fellow ozbargainers on Vaya. Frankly, I have not had any experience but a friend said that the service and reception is not the best (he used the word 'pathetic').

    How have you found it?

    • Im on it and it works fine. They use Optus network so if that suits you, it will be fine.

    • Been with Vaya for ~4 months. Haven't had a single issue. Porting across was pain free (except my previous telco was slow). Would recommend. Dont forget to use the referral system to get an oz member $25 credit by using their referral link.

      • isn't it $15 referral ? or did I missed something?

    • +4

They pulled a swifty on users earlier last year. Charged a $20 security deposit on ALL customers after giving out free SIM cards with a free month of service. Even the customers who had perfect payment records. I got out of the contract as soon as that happened as the agreement had changed and haven't looked back. They also were billing in MB but I'm not sure if you have to pay extra for KB or not anymore.

      • They bill in KB from some time now. Also the $20 deposit was so ppl didn't leave after a month and not pay the last bill. Probably should of been handle better though.

        • +1

Except they were also charging the deposit to people who were on prepaid as far as I recall.

      • +1

It is worth noting this was under a previous owner. They have since changed owners, and I got my security deposit back with a simple email.

        • +1

Hi Mccarthyp64, sorry to hear about your experience. If you have not got your $20 deposit back then please shoot us an email and we will look into refunding you https://www.vaya.net.au/?option=Contact%20Us. To clear things up, we do bill in KB and no longer have a $20 security deposit.

          Cheers, Ian

        • That's good to know. I've been with Vaya for years and have three numbers with them and got charged $60 so will need to ask about getting that back before it gets lost in the system! I have had a relatively good experience with them and if you don't need international calls or data pooling they are as cheap as you'll find, and I have found the Optus coverage to be fine although I rarely go out of Metro areas.

        • @Vaya Ian Fagan: Hi Ian, I just emailed and your colleague Jade said I need to wait until I cancel my service to get the $20 back. I have 2 services. But what you're saying is I can get it back now as it was reverted this rule.

        • +2

@Dnkei: Hi, can you PM me please and I will look into this as this should not be the case - you do not have to cancel your service to get the $20 back.

          Cheers, Ian

        • @Vaya Ian Fagan:

I got the same reply when I emailed Vaya today. Pathetic.

        • @Vaya Ian Fagan: Uh oh, I just wizzed an email off and hoping not to get same response!

        • @Vaya Ian Fagan: I cancelled it when you first introduced it - via email a few days before it was suddenly due. Never paid that deposit.

        • +2

          @JHoliday:

Happy to report that Ian has refunded the $20 security deposit.

He must be the only competent person there at Vaya.

          Thank you Ian.

        • @Vaya Ian Fagan:

Ian this is the reply I got when I tried to get the $20 back:

          Thanks for your email.
The proper reimbursement of your $20 Prepayment will be performed once your service is disconnected and the final invoice has been generate on the next month. If we are going to release the $20.00 it will only be adjusted on your latest bill. $20.00 minus the $18.00=$2.00

Should you have any further queries please feel free to call us on 1300 008 292. You can also contact us by visiting our website at www.vaya.net.au, Facebook, or simply email us again.

          Many thanks,
          Lizel

        • @Thenarrator: Hi there, thanks for sending this through. Given I am not aware of the full context here, do you mind sending me a PM and I will sort this. I can confirm that you do not have to disconnect your service to get your security deposit back.

          Cheers, Ian

    • Ditched these people six months ago, poor customer service and no reception at home on Optus. Gone with Telechoice/4G Telstra and couldn't be happier .. :-) .. !!

      • Did Telechoice improve their service since a year ago? It was a horrible customer service which took me an hour to be able to talk.

        • Hard to say, I haven't had any real problems and what I have have been resolved quickly by logged support requests .. :-) .. !!

    • Overall they were OK, but the $20 stunt was disappointing and they do not look after existing customers. Once you're in, you will never be able to move to a better deal with them, they slowly push you higher. For this reason I am switching to Kogan today.

  • +5

    What about existing customers op?

    • +2

i chat to one of their online customer service rep and they said only new customer.

  • +1

What are you offering for long term customers who are not on a fixed contract any more?

Can I sign up for this offer if I am no longer in my contract period?

    • +3

@weebok.. Port out and port in will be quicker than getting a response from them..!!

    • +1

+1 I was about to change to Kogan but seems like these prices match/beat Kogan. Don't forget the $5 fee for changing plans with Vaya..

      • Me too, I've been on Vaya before and didn't have any issues as long as you read the terms and conditions, might go back to them instead of Kogan

        • Same here I ordered my kogan sim card last week.

As I see it I can get 3gig for $17.30 on kogan (Vodafone)

Or $15 using vaya (optus) but I only really get about 1.8 gig and I have to watch my data.

I like the idea of having my data cut off when I go over (I can get a bolt on if I need to). But I'm worried about coverage with kogan (Vodafone).

Hi there, this promotion is available for new services only. So, as an existing customer you can add a service and still receive the discount. You can also change your current service over to one of our 12-month plans at anytime, however, you won't be able to get the promo rate.

      • +4

        Hi Op,

Thanks for the reply. So really there is no incentive to stay with Vaya as there is no appreciation to reward existing customers.

Sounds like any other company who neglect their customers. Time to look elsewhere!

      • IF I add a NEW service.. Can I change over my current mobile number to this new services and get a new number for my existing one?

        • Apparently you cannot use your old number for the new service according to one of the staff on live chat

        • +1

@sarah965: would it be possible to port out the number and port back in? or would that take too long since we've paid that month already.

why would they do this to existing customers :(

        • @Dnkei:
He told me the two options were to port out and port in with amayasim and then come back to vaya as a new customer. Or
          2. To open a new account along with existing account and once the new service is activated the old service will be terminated .. however downside is you can't get your old number

Honestly I'm not sure how long the porting in and out .. it seems like such a hassle :/

  • +2

I'm with Vaya :( Doesn't look like I can get this…Been thinking to leave recently. Maybe a port out and in might be worth it.

    • just port to the kogan plan.

  • just signed up four phones a few weeks ago! damn..

  • This means we need to pay the whole year ahead at sign up?

    • Hi, that is correct. You prepay for the full year.

  • And if they go out of business, you lose your money

    • They're at least owned by Amaysim aren't they?

      • +2

Yeah they're owned by Amaysim so I don't think they're likely to go out of business within the next 12 months.

The main "downside" of signing up with these 12 month plans is that they're designed to slow down industry churn.

From an individual POV the value is great (with the caveat of having to deal with Vaya).

From a market POV slower churn means less price competition longer term.

Just think of all price cuts that the market has seen over the past 12-18 months. The discounted 3, 6, now 12 month plans are designed to slow that down so if too many of us take up these deals we're hurting everyone (including ourselves) in the longer term.

But I don't see that stopping anyone from saving money today. :)

  • Hi Rep, if I buy the Unlimited L can I activate it on the 1st of February 2017? I'm still on Kogan Mobile till January 2017.

    • +1

Hi there, you sure can. You can purchase the 12 month plan now and activate it at a later date. Your 12 months will only commence when you activate the plan :)

    • +2

Hi rockytauhid, just to clear things up on this - if you are porting you can activate at a later date, however, if you are getting a new number then your SIM will automatically activate after 7 days from when your SIM has been dispatched.

  • When does this deal expire?

    • before 24 December, 11:59pm. New orders only. T&Cs apply

  • +1

Hi Rep, will customers that sign up for this 12 month promotional plan be notified when the 12 months is about to end?

    • +1

Hi Jezster, absolutely. We will let you know when your plan is coming to the end of the 12 months.

  • and what's the rate after 12 months?

  • @OP would be interested if you gave the answers for the above questions :) thanks!

    • +2

Answering them as quickly as I can :) did you have anything specific you wanted answered?

  • good deal. reckon they're worth another shot after being bought out by amaysim

  • +16

Negging because of major problem with this company - they decided to introduce a cash grab $20 security deposit, then did not refund the deposit when I ported out. Had to go to the TIO to get my money back. Also there was evidence of systematic over-billing & random dishonour fees - not sure if these have been fixed - avoid.

    • I had that same problem with TPG! Now I just go with amaysim, no plan. So much better.

    • +1

Yup, I got hit with all of the things that you just mentioned and it took the usual hoop jumping to get things fixed, probably not as bad as Vodafone, but thats like comparing Hilary to Trump. I have found reception to be fine/good, they are pretty cheap, but customer service and backend administration have been abysmal. Vaya are a bit of a double edged sword

    • I had same issues with them…..

    • Those random dishonour fees were really bad… happened to me at least twice when I had plenty of funds in my account (I think I was paying via a Debit Card). But it is under new management now.

    • I had the same issue - like 4 years ago.. dude get over it.. lol

    • +1

I am negging your comment because it is based on a previous owner of the company.

Amaysim bought Vaya in January 2016, and the method of operation has changed since. The $20 security deposit (which wasn't implemented exclusively by Vaya) was ruled against in December 2015.

I'm unaware of any evidence regarding systematic over-billing and random dishonor fees.

Under the new ownership, these things may no longer be happening, and peoples experiences seem to suggest that.

    • -1

i agree that vaya is never a bargain.

    • I got the security deposit back. So if you are an existing customer contact them via chat or phone or click call me back to get it back.
Other than that, I have seen the support sorting out most of my issues via chat, which is a big plus. So I think you can remove your neg.

  • Are the data amounts you stated above per month?
E.g. If I get Unlimited M - Unlimited Std Talk/Text + 2GB for $180 upfront ($15/month), I will get a fresh 2GB at the start of each billing cycle? Or is it every 30 days?
    Thanks.

    • Hey concento, you will get 2GB every month.

  • +7

Stay Away from them!! Horrible customer experience and they direct debit from your account without informing you.

    • +1

Its the same with every provider DUH! Amaysim, Spintel, Lyca etc etc etc.

If you don't like Vaya service, then go to Amaysim… oh wait .. they are the SAME company..

      • +2

I moved to Optus & the service provided is a markd difference!

        • +2

well done.. however Vaya is like 40% cheaper than Optus so if paying 40% more is worth the extra service u get uve made the right decision. For others being a tight ass and paying next to nothing is more important. each to their own!

  • +10

Worst customer experience of my life with multiple occurances over 3yrs.

For four continuous months they disconnected my service because my bolt ons were not being activated. Constantly changing reasons why.
Contact us section - Tried for 2 days to phone them (as had no sim) but line never rung & was just dead. Email query took 8 days to reply & with nothing of help. So zero way to contact them!
Replacement sim - Lied about sending it, which was confirmed by Aust Post. Subequent 2nd delivery never arrived.
    Incorrect billing on two occasions.

I would not use this company if it was even free. Save your sanity… I nearly lost mine!

    • -1

Now they have chat option and I have sorted my issues over chat. I see you have one valid reason and other neggs are following with no base. They have some pretty good plans and after dealing with Optus, TPG and other small providers, they are not great. But at the same time not worst.

  • +1

    Hi Ian,

I think I speak for all here when I say this. Firstly they are amazing deals there is no doubt about it. I was a Vaya customer in the past but ported out due to service and this $20 deposit.

So perhaps for the benefit of the OzB community do you have anything that could alleviate concerns that people have regarding these 2 problem points? You'll have me join back for sure if you do…

    • +3

      Hi bemybubble,

Appreciate the feedback. Firstly, please do shoot through an email to get your $20 deposit refunded if you haven't already https://www.vaya.net.au/?option=Contact%20Us. We know we still have work to do but improving the customer experience here at Vaya is something we are certainly working hard on. Some of the changes we have made recently include:

Removal of the $10 setup fee
      Introduced a free delivery option
Removal of the $30 disconnection fee
Removal of the $20 security deposit
Introduced a Price Beat Guarantee that applies to new and existing customers

      Cheers, Ian

      • Dear Vaya - sounds like you guys are moving in the right direction - keep up the good work - I am a Live Connected customer (now owned by Vaya) and will likely take up this offer.

      • +1

Has Vaya automatically refunded the $20 security deposit for existing customers, or do they have to request this manually?
