LG Ultrafine 5k Monitor(apple.com) was $1889.95 now $1416.95…showing A$756.95. Think you linked the smaller screen

    • Wasn't sure which one I wanted to include but thanks for letting me know.

    • +9

Seems these are price reductions, not increases. Unless you can link to cheaper prices, your neg is invalid.

Literally 10 seconds off my phone. The"increase" is the Apple brand that suckers happily pay.

        • +21

Not going to sing the praises of Apple or any other brand, but I doubt you can draw comparisions between genuine Apple accessories vs copies. You may pay a premium, but you can't argue with the quality.

          @tightarse:

No offence dude, but you know nothing about how these cables are made.

They're no different to 3rd party makers who use the same materials.

I've been making my own cables (USB Type C) included for many years. My cables are of similar quality to anything that Apple sells. They put their ridiculous Apple Tax on their accessories too. Microsoft also do it to many of their accessories.

        • viewed your link and then this popped up lol
          https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/cable-and-gadget-organiser/

I remember that there were these style of organisers for CD, Cassette and floppy disks and still no one used them properly. Now too much of a knotty problemn.

    • +1

The prices of these particular accessories have actually been lowered.

      • -2

        Who cares?

These accessories are available at a much cheaper price elsewhere. Thanks for the post, but USB Type C is not new.
What do you thinK Windows laptops with USB Type C have been using? Apple USB Type C adapters? No

        • +15

it seems like you cared, a lot

          @darthsparrow:

That's the typical response of someone who has nothing else to say.
Part of being 'in the know' is being aware of all the available brands out there.

        • +7

          @niner:

You asked who cares, so I answered your question. And you're welcome.

    • +14

Agree…. We've banned apple products from our household. Life is finally so much easier. No more iTunes crap, music sync crap, instant memory card swap out with camera devices etc, drag and drop any file extension to any folder in any device, even use our old galaxy note 4 as our universal remote control for all our appliances in the house. "infra red function" can even do proper gaming with the VR oculus.

      • +2

LOL, ads about Apple seems to be your fave

      • -1

I offered to move a couple's Samsung mobile's data to new iPhones they were swapping over to. Can be done nicely by putting an Apple app on the Samsungs, but they forgot their iTunes password. Almost two hours later I finally got iTunes going, (I don't know why you need such security for a phone). However, I unticked moving the photos, thinking I could just manually drop them into the iPhone. Not possible. Seems the only was to move photos on or off an iPhone is via the cloud. Someone else finished the job. Never touching an iPhone again. Took two and a half hours and I almost had a heart attack just from the frustration and sheer stupidity of Apple philosophy. It's their phone, any can't they drop one photo into the phone?

        • +2

You're doing it wrong. Plug in iPhone to a Windows machine, open Windows Explorer, browse to iPhone/DCIM folder, copy/paste pics to anywhere. Spend the next 2hrs 28mins drinking beer.

        • I'm pretty sure you can't do that, it's not one of the solutions when I google it.

  • +5

And 1.5% cashback with Cashrewards :)

    • +7

      Sorry what?

Many Windows computers have been employing USB-C for over a year.
      Same with Android phones.

They make up more than 90% of the smartphone+PC market.

You're not very aware of the market, are you?

USB Type C was developed by a number of vendors including Intel.
If anything, it's Intel who is doing all the grunt work.

        • +4

Nokia n1 tablet was the first device with usbc in 2014. The standard was initially developed without Apple appearing anywhere.

But yes, it will force peripheral makers to come out with more usbc devices, which will in turn mean more laptop makers will use them.

It just would have been nice to have at least one usb 3 port. You can't even plug in their just released flag ship phone without using an adapter

      • -3

Thank you for stating the bleeding obvious.
You're not very capable at reading between the lines are you?
Apple have just made an estimated 105% of the smartphone profits in the last financial quarter
        http://www.investors.com/news/technology/click/apple-iphone-…
Apple also makes something like 80% of the profits in the laptop market
Apple acts, industry changes. Not android, not windows.

        • Apple must've invented a time machine to release larger screen phones (remember the perfect size?) and tablets, styluses, an actual app store, 4G/LTE, notifications tray, changable keyboard among other Apple inventions then!

Save your money and get a computer (even a macbook) that has many ports if you use peripherals. If you don't mind forking out over $3000 for a 512GB SSD laptop and don't mind using multiple adapters then the new macbook is a good for you.
I've been using USB Type C laptops for a year now and they only give you a headache.

USB Type C has been around for over a year. There are plenty of cheaper adapters you can buy. APple USB Type C ports are still the same USB Type C with thunderbolt 3 found in other laptops.

  • Yes it is 'courage' to carry adapters for iPhone 7 and the recent Macbook Pro release

  • +1

I think the USB-C to USB Adapter was $29 last week I checked.

  • are these just the new regular price from Apple?

    • +1

From what I saw on reddit it's until the end of the year.

    • On the product page

Special pricing on this item for a limited time. …
      … Pricing effective 27 October to 31 December 2016.

  • Are the 2m USB C cables good? Some terrible reviews on the 2m standard USB cables - http://www.apple.com/au/shop/product/MD819AM/A/lightning-to-…

    • +1

      Belkin never lets me down.

Even Google's overpriced USB C cables are good and can be bought if you have extra Google Play credit to kill.

      • How do you use Google Play credit at Google Store?

        • I haven't used a voucher in ages, but I am pretty sure you can go to Google Wallet and add credit to your account.

If not, try going to the checkout page.

    • Not sure about the other cables, but the USB C-C cable is very new and great for charging: https://plus.google.com/102612254593917101378/posts/dcLuKzGe…

    • Their standard lightning cable is pretty terrible too. Just get a genuine Apple charger (those are great) and a premium braided USB C cable from Anker/Blitzwolf and you're set.

Based on anecdotal evidence the cable that comes with the iPhone doesn't last very long compared to premium aftermarket ones.

  • anyone know if the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adaptor will work with the Dell XPS15 TB3 port?

  • So Black Friday is coming up soon - do apple usually give a decent discount on hardware then?

  • +2

    Only here for the comments

  • Bought a USB-C to USB Adapter for my Chuwi Tablet even though I already have the google one :\

  • LOL.

LG UltraFine 5K vs Dell UltraSharp

    $1,416.95 (25%) vs $2,239 (20% off)

The LG looks uglier and cannot rotate to portrait mode but $823 difference can justify it…

With the new MBP 15", 2 of this (http://www.apple.com/au/shop/product/MMEL2/thunderbolt-3-usb…) are required to drive the Dell, which increase the difference to $913.

So the combo MBP 15" & LG 5K will costs $3,599.00 + $1,416.95 ~= $5,016. $2,000 deduction from ATO brings the cost down to $3,016 for the next 3 years.

Uhm if I can manage to sell my current perfect combo MBP 15" late 2013 + Dell UltraSharp 27" for $1,500 then the new combo will only cost $1,516.

Great bargain for a top of the line work station!

    • +2

      $2000 reduction from ATO????

      • ^^^ more info please dtrang

        • He would be referring to writing office a small business expense over a 3 year period, Dtrang probably owns his own business and would use the computer for 40% of the time for his business according to his info

  • I'm confused. On other websites it seems to be saying that the USB-C charge cable isn't being discounted, but here I'm reading that it's being cut from $45 to $29. Can anyone confirm that the original price was $45?

    • +2

Google cache on 25 Oct 2016 said it all.

JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys both are still selling it at $45.

      • +1

Just adding on to that, the model sold previously was MJWT2ZA/A, and it was not standards compliant. The one sold now is "MLL82AM/A", and it has been independently tested to be very very good (perhaps the best cable in its class). If you need a spare c-c cable to charge your type-c phone or tablet, this is probably the one you want to buy.

  • Are apple's USB-c accessories Benson approved?

  • +2

bargain for apple to make you buy new adapters, thanks apple

  • Does the USB-C to USB adapter transfer data at USB 2.0 speeds or USB 3.0 speeds?

Apple website suggests USB 3.0 speeds, (https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204360) but several reviewers state that it transfers ago USB 2.0 speeds only. I would like to connect an external USB3.0 hard drive, thanks
