I received one as a gift last Christmas. Use it every day. Would highly recommend.
Works fine, good if you use a lot of soda water, the kids dont mind the flavours, personally the cola is nowhere near coke or even pepsi so I still buy cans to satisfy my cola needs, but for everything else its fine. I do find I need to put in more than the recommended amount of syrup to get the taste I want YMMV, refill canisters are around $19 and places like target often have the syrups at 3 for $10 especially over christmas/summer months
I would personally recommend it using it as a better alternative .. if you really enjoy the cokes, sprites and fantas i would probably skip on this.. Unless you have sourced the syrups from Maccas or food chain.
Terms of pricing, it is about 50c a litre of sparkling water using the soda stream. If you want to save money and the system doesn't bother you, you can actually make your own system which will end up being cheaper in the long run and the bottle attachment works on most bottles.
Negatives of Soda stream
attachments, new bottles, new gas bottles etc.. are expensive and really add up.If money doesn't bother you and you drink alot of soda, It is a good buy.
I bloody love mine. 95% of its use is just for soda water… I don't bother with most of the syrups tbh, most are pretty ordinary.
Had one about a year and use it every day. I've found a few of the cheaper models at garage sales and bought them for the cylinders so I always have a couple of spares. In my opinion these are as good as the more expensive models with the indicators (it's not hard to figure out if it's carbonated)and they are a bit easier to use than than the cheaper ones that require you to screw the bottles on.
Comes with one starter gas cylinder
One carbonating bottleIf the starter gas cyclinder is the 60L, they are worth $50, and the spare bottle is worth just under $10!
I believe the starter canister in this is 15L. This is the main reason I am probably still going to pay the extra $40 for the 'Source Element' version.
Also, unless you don't trade in the empty canisters, they're hardly worth $50. $19 with trade in.
Why would 45L be worth $40? Once the 15L is used up, wouldn't you trade it in for a 60L cannister?
The Source Element comes with 60L tank on purchase. Also has some other features like LED indication of what level of carbonation the water is at, where as on the Play it's just a guessing game. All I am saying is while there is a $40 price gap for the extra features, the gap is closed by receiving a quarter of the gas. I might end up picking this up though. We'll see.
EDIT: although this video shows it comes with a 60L canister. so not sure https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viYY4Itph6E
UPDATE: I ended up buying and the included canister is in fact 60L. A YouTube review said it was 15L, but this appears incorrect.
you can get a spare cylinder from big w for $35. I'm pretty sure i saw that in store, cant seem to find it online
I saw an EoL Sodeastream in Kmart for $39 recently. Might be worth checking what is hiding away there if you are in the market for one.
This. They basically all do the same thing, so no point spending $100s on the more spenno models.
Sodastream sucks they took away all the good flavours and replaced them with crappy ones
I tend to use cordial with mine. Lemon lime & bitters, lychee and guava etc. I think it ends up being cheaper than using the syrups and is much more interesting anyway.
been using it on apple juice for ages its great ! less that $2 for 2 litters of apple juice for Aldi etc. and it turns it into ~$4 a litter sparking apple juice :)
You just need to let the gas out slowly after carbonating the apple juice so it doesn't get in the machine.
Who has one of these? If so would you recommend one?
