    Ram?

    • +29

Can't afford to discount on the RAM

      • How about some memory?

    • +38

cant you just download them from the net?

      • +8

he's not going to do that because he's sheepish

As much as I love MSY, is 10% off really all that interesting considering all the recent eBay and Amex deals we have been using? For example I recently bought a NUC from eBay last week and will get the $100 eBay voucher next month (according to shopbot I could have gotten it cheaper so let's say effectively $70 back for the $350 item). With Amex I got my wireless razor mouse for $130 and got $40 back.

I'll be using my eBay coupon to get my Ram for the NUC and I'm kind of glad it is not on sale here at MSY.

Whatever the case I'm still going to download the good old parts.pdf as I die every few weeks and hope to find a bargain. 😄

      • the ebay deals were bit stacked price wise and it was just good if are happy with a $100 voucher. some people rather the cash in the wallet so the msy deal isn't bad as they are in the static ice lowerst pricing grouping anyway.

    • RAM is already cheap :)

  • Just bought a cpu cooler last Sunday from MSY. Damn.

    • Just bought a cpu cooler last Sunday 2 hours ago from MSY. Damn.

      • +1

whats the best CPU cooler @MSY? i was going to get a cryorig from PCCG, but this 10% has me wanting to consider something else.

        what you get and why?

        • +2

Noctua dh 15, but anything noctua really.

        • @Dingus: i'd be too terrified that thing would break off the motherboard. it's huge and heavy. meanwhile i can't find a quiet and lighter alternative that's OK in performance (not for oc).

        • @insular:

It doesn't ever have a chance to break off the motherboard and i took mine Interstate on Flight luggage.
This was before i switched it onto LGA-2011 that uses the CPU socket and not the stronger mounting that Noctua
          has for LGA 1155-1150

        • @Beerforkids: pricey though, i'm looking at Coolermaster Hyper-212X for 49 now, but ill see if its worth it.

        • @insular:

Its pricey because the build Quality and performance of the NH-D15 is equal but generally
better than most 240-280mm RAD AIO's. I only did better with a full custom water loop.

CM Hyper212's are great and my second choice if you can't afford a NH-D15 or previously NH-D14.

        • @insular:

I have the 212 on an i5-2500k and it is an excellent cooler. I can very easily OC to 4.8GHz and the highest i've seen my temps at full load are 68 degrees. Also using Deepcool Z5 paste from MSY and it is good and cheap.

        • @StuBalls: well i bought the NH-D15. i almost just went with the 14, but i figure the fans are better. lower temps is always a good thing for reliability, and the 10% off helped.

just need to decide on a new kb and mouse.

        • I bought a Deepcool Gammax 300 for $24 however it's only to rid myself of the stock cooler's noise levels. Cooler is quiet but not standout good or bad.

        • Coolermaster V8, might be pricey but it looks awesome and cools very well.

        • Noctua DH15 :)

  • What does maximum 2 per item mean? I can only purchase 2 max of the one item?

    • That's probably it, maybe two items per checkout but that would just kill their sales

    • You can buy multiple items but maximum quantity for each item is 2.

  • +3

Do we get 10% off on clearance items on the list?

    • +5

      yes

  • +59

I buy most of my PC parts from MSY but damn, for a company that sells computer parts your website is atrocious. The website itself is bad enough but a PDF price list is just crazy.

    • +94

It's always been that way, I think it's part of the "charm" ;)

      • +4

I know and considering how well they are doing (expansion wise), imagine if they had a function website that anyone could use? Prices could only go down further.

        • +16

          Yep. Never change MSY.

There's a reason why so many pc stores go out of business and MSY is still around.

        • @tonyjzx: I bet PCCG kills them

        • @nick nick: Seriously? MSY have gone from two or three stores to twenty eight, IMO PCCG have gone downhill the last couple of years, they do stock some of the more obscure parts though.

      • Agree. Spend some time in Taiwan/HK and price lists (pdf and in store) are part of the charm. Damn I miss those days…

      • +4

I reckon they do it on purpose (the bad website design). If they had a real flashy site, you'd get clueless people who shop at Harvey Norman lining up and being like "what's a RAM?" lol

        • +3

Totally hate these. Time wasters these lot. I say know what you are after. Research it.

Usually the queue is because someone is holding up the queue asking a million and one questions. These people are eating away the time and into the turn over of stock that msy needs to make money.

Their margins cant possibly be that high per item so the quicker you can get your items the sooner they can serve the next person.

      • I agree, it is quite a nice charm haha, I quite enjoy going through the pdf sometimes :)

        • +1

Sometimes it makes me feel like a little kid browsing through a Christmas toy catalogue :)

    • +52

I actually like the pdf price list so that I can scan all items and easily compare prices for different brands and/or specs.

      • +15

Next will be an excel file so you can pivot table the whole website yourself…

      • I second this. If you were eyeing a certain item, you can definitely make a comparison of similar items that are slightly cheaper/more expensive. I love how it's it gives you a good range of what your other options are.

That being said though, a good website wouldn't hurt either! But as someone who likes the big picture, I'll still use the PDF price list if given the option.

      • +3

Agreed. I actually enjoy reading the parts pdf file. Simple and easy to scan through products quickly.

      • Couldn't agree more.

      • +2

I actually like the pdf price list so that I can scan all items and easily compare prices for different brands and/or specs.

But that's because it's small, simple text on just a couple of pages, not because it's a PDF.

They could still do that while making their price list in searchable, mobile-friendly HTML.

    • +1

Agreed, first time I went on I still couldn't believe they were a pc store lol…

    • +30

The best thing about MSY is its PDF pricelist. It's funny how the ozbargainers respond to the pdf pricelist compared to those who know a thing or two about computers.

MSY is there to offer you good prices. They're not known for their customer service or excellent website. Either know what you want or go elsewhere.

      • +8

        No soup for you

        • +5

Haha, MSY is pretty much that.

        • +3

          @Capone:

          Exactly

          I love MSY prices…

Parts.PDF has been my lifeline for 15 years.

      • +5

I don't mind the lack of customer service, it's the not following the law that annoys me. A guy ahead of me at MSY Ultimo had a completely broken monitor less than 12 months old, purchased from that store, had the receipt, and was trying to return it for repair or replacement or refund, and they kept telling him he had to go to the manufacturer, and they could not or would not do anything. I said no, the ACL is clear, return to the manufacturer OR the place of purchase. They refused to budge. And that is not okay.

    • +33

      PARTS.pdf is an institution!

As someone that does a heap of IT ordering for my work, it's so refreshing having everything listed in one single document for easy comparison.

      • Everything isn't listed though unless I'm mistaken …

    • +1

I personally like MSY's website design and parts PDF. Simple, easy to find what you want. Only thing that annoys me is the speed as it's hosted off a private Dodo home internet service (unless it's changed lately).

    • +1

do you prefer it to follow a windows 8 sort of interface? lol
it shows you the item category, name and price
      dont need no animations

10 years ago I wanted to build a budget pc and a friend from uni told me about MSY. I thought he was trolling since their website was no different from those phishing sites. Until he showed the mighty parts.pdf to me…

      • Told one of my friends about msy and she thought it was a scam too considering target bought a gaming mouse for $180 at eBgames, the same mouse can be bought for $79.

Needless to say she refunded the eBgames mouse and got the same one from msy instead.

    • +1

the pdf list prints well , even in sections. and you can search on pdfs if you wanted to.

      i like the pdf list,

    • they can have cheap prices due to the low overheads, IE non-flashy website to maintain.

    • The only downside of the parts list is you cannot see stock count - that is where their website is actually useful.

    • Do you remember fluidtek's website?

    • Would it kill them to do a reasonable easy to read PDF price list?

Instead of 5 pages - make it 10 pages??

use some tables? and proper indentation?

Pretty sure I could come up with something in about a week if MSY are willing to pay me for the time.

    • The PDF pricelist is ACE. It's my first stop when I want to find the cheapest price on PC parts and quickly compare them.

  • Looks like a good time to get local stock of the Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 or Asus GTX 1080 OC!!! Here's hoping they have stock!

  • How about wireless networking cards?

    • +2

We will have them on sale really soon :)

  • +1

How about 15% or 20% off TP-Link product ? I missed on that deal :(.

    • +6

      Coming in Dec :)

  • ahhh excellent, and fyshwick is OOS for the graphics card SKU that I was chasing (yet was in stock yesterday)

  • +1

Is the ASUS IPS 27" VC279H still gonna be $259 when this sale starts?

    • Pretty devo having bought one for the missus 2 days before the sale at $320 elsewhere.

    • $259 !

      • -1

You fail to mention it's not actually eligible for the 10% off.
        Misleading.

  • Damn, no CPU?

  • I really want a new graphics card. Tempted since I am still running me 2 power hungry GTX 660's and just rather a single power efficient beast.

  • Are you getting the G910 Orion Spectrum and will you beat Scorptec $209?

  • +1

Fantastic, discounted cheap prices…..beats those 20% off eBay deals where the items are already overpriced by 15%

    • To be fair they have to add on price because of the eBay fees.

      • yeah ebay fees are shocking and you'd know if you ever sold stuff on ebay, so i can handle them marking up 10-15% ……. option is buy direct from store and places like warehouse1 are cheaper on their website than ebay.

but ebay is good for those that don't live near a store, australia is a big country and mail delivery is the lifeline for stuff unless they want to drive 4-5 hours to an msy store.

  • +1

Great news if you love queues!

    • my store has a VIP queue but they charge extra for the speedier service and call you "sir" , always seems empty and people line up in the cheaper queue.

people seem to swallow their dignity where prices are concerned.

i use it as punishment for my son " we are going to MSY on saturday morning" " but dad can't i stay at home" ….. seems to be similar experience as the vacuum cleaner and cats and dogs from a pleasure perspective.

  • +2

I can't remember MSY having such a sale. I'm surprised.

    • +21

Apparently it only happens once in 20 years. It's their 20 year anniversary sale.

      • Really??!! :p

      • I KNEW! I knew that was coming… yet I still said my comment.

        • I knew their prices are higher than they used to be. How else could they afford this?

  • Is that all stores?

    • Yes all stores

      • Shame you don't have a store in Indonesia.

I almost want to fly back just for the sale.

        MSY, you guys are awesome.

Didn't realise how badly I was getting ripped off for so many years.

        • MSY also sells pork, Indonesia doesn't allow it.

Just kidding. Get someone in Australia to buy for you.

        • @edfoo:

I don't have any friends to do that for me…

Anyone know of a good deal on buying friends?

I've had the MSY parts list pdf thing open for the past 20 minutes picking parts for a new PC and just saw this. Definitely makes my plans cheaper!

  • Rep, any mini ITX motherboards? Website says none :/
