It will come with spamware pre installed.

Get ready to spend half an hour disabling it all or uninstalling what you can. Shame.

      • +1

You can't really uninstall its dialer and contacts. Only disable it.

Third party memory optimization is another spam.

Why spend over 800 for such a phone? Only for its hardware specs that don't have software to take full advantage

      • is this due to it being kogan stock?

        • No it's due to ASUS living in 2013 and not getting the memo that we don't want all their crap ware. And that's it. Can get a Lenovo Zuk z2 or a Xiaomi Mi 5 or a OnePlus 3 for like half to almost a third of the price.

          @adrianhughes1998:

yeah i wasn't planning on getting it but was curious where the bloat was coming from incase i bought a phone from kogan in future

        • @jmac: Kogan are just a reseller they're not like Chinese ones that have possibility of installing their own ROMs etc.

    "Bottom Line
The ZenFone 3 Deluxe is a gorgeous phone with an eye-poppingly vibrant display and a UI to match. It's $500 price seems like a bargain when you compare this phone to similarly sized flagships that go for hundreds more, but budget-conscious users may prefer the $399 OnePlus 3, which has nearly identical performance, storage and screen quality.
Those who are willing to spend another $270 should purchase a Google Pixel XL, which has one of the best cameras on the market and lasts 3 hours longer on a charge. If you want an unlocked device with a strong sense of style, plenty of performance and great selfie capabilities, the ZenFone 3 Deluxe is a good choice, but the camera could be better."

Just to add to that.. Asus have always had battery issues with the Zenfone series on release, but I found with the 1 and 2 that updates down the track really helped address that point. When I retired my Zenfone 1, it had gone from a battery hog to outlasting my partners Samsung.

I concur. Have the Zenfone 2 and it was buggy and battery life sucked. But they update the hell out of their phones even if it is to an excessive level.

wait for Xiaomi Mi Note 2 launch today…..

  • Odd.. OZB didnt let me post a link to a cheaper version

You can check out DWI (dwidigitalcameras) for the gold variant for $759 plus delivery or eGlobal for $733 + delivery

The chipset is a snapdragon 820

Mod: Cleaned up and re-added link above, it was automatically removed by the system as it contained affiliation

    • Not really same same phone. OP linked to the 'special edition' with 821 chipset.

so $859+ for Zen UI loaded device … hmmmm the Aus $ going down is making us go back to pre-2009 prices for laptops and now on phones too :(

    Resolution 1080 x 1920
Isnt that poor for 5.7 inch and $859?

    • Good for battery I guess. Screen is not that bad at 1080 x 1920.
I would go for battery usage.

    • 1080 is good for every day usage.

You would need to think about going to higher resolution if you want to use VR headsets though.

"invisible antenna design"?? As opposed to all the other modern smartphones that have a little antenna poking out the top like the early mobile phones had?

    • +1

I was such a legend when I whipped my antenna out!

      • Every time I did that I got arrested. Every. Damn. Time.

    • It's not that crazy, lots of phones have visible antennas.

      iPhones for example.

      • Can you please elaborate on that, I don't think I have ever noticed an antenna on any of the iPhones.

        • Just google a picture of the back of an iphone 6. There's two horizontal lines across the back about 1cm from top and bottom respectively. Those are antenna lines, not a design feature.

The iphone 7 still has them, but they're tucked away a bit more along the top and bottom.

Lots of phones have those lines on the back.

yet another huge phablet, no more decent 4.5" 300+dpi dual-sim phones :(

    • Some market research have totally convinced ALL PHONE MAKERS in Asia that there is NO MARKET for devices smaller than 5". And there is no phone maker not from Asia now.

      • Xiaomi released the Redmi 3S with a five inch screen couple of months back and it's sold well in India so there is a bit of market left I suppose. But yes I agree it's all generic 5.5inch phablets. No innovation at the high end either.

        • And I suppose 5" is not smaller than 5"???

        • @claud0902: 4" to 4.5" was considered 'big' about 3 years ago. Personally I don't like carrying anything bigger than 5".

        • @claud0902: my bad. Read it as 5.5 inch. Would win at fastest finger for all the wrong reasons.

        • +1

actually even 4.5" is quite big, I liked 4" (like Nokia N9) even better…

  • is the screen IPS or AMOLED?
For this price range I'd want the later

    • AMOLED

  • Buy one and then Asus will release a zillion different models tagged as ZenFone 3
