  • Pity it's only an M3-6Y30 (by the looks of it, being 0.9MHz).

I have played with one of these before. I quite like it. The hinge allows you to bend the laptop backwards and let you use like a standing tablet. Although it is a Core M chip, the advantage is that there is no fan so the overall weight is very light and the laptop is silent. The screen is a glossy screen. Some people might not like but I prefer that over a matte screen. I got the UX305 (i5 6200U) and the battery life is super (7 to 8 hours 60% brightness light surfing/youtube and word application). I would assume this is at least better or similar in this sense given that it is a Core M chip. If you are in the market for an Ultrabook but dont require all fancy stuff like a Dell XPS, Lenovo Yoga, HP Spectre (the one with the super sexy hinge), I think this laptop is real good value for money, light and has a good battery.

    • There are different Core-M chips. I think this is a M3-6Y30. That makes it a fair bit less powerful than an i5. But yes, for basic applications it would be fine.

      • This is definitely an M3-6Y30, it can boost up to 2.2ghz so not really an issue. But due to its fanless nature, you will probably get thermal throttle often and operate at a low speed in general. It is for the consumer to decide what is important. Core M = Fanless, Silent, Light, just basic usage. i5 has fan and could be noisy, but still shit for gaming. i7 if you need video rendering (that being said, the mobile i7 is a dual core so still quite pointless).

Even a weak core m would be fine for most non-intense CPU operations (think corporate or uni type uses). The rest of the specs look really good for the price. I'm also pleasantly surprised with the quality of my Asus ultrabook (UX303LA, non-touch screen) that I've used every day for just under two years… Would buy again.

  • Do any of you guys use this for Lightroom for selective photo editing on the fly (as opposed to bulk editing)? Looking to get something light for travel.

Was considering As New Dell XPS 13 i5 for $1180 after TRS.

  • Cheaper than an apple screen replacement…. :p
