I thought thinkpad was praised for easy to customise designs? Daaarn it Lenovo.

      • They are, just need to exercise due care, as with any laptop.

    • You playing with fire!

My E470 with the same specs suffers from screen bleed, a cheap-feeling keyboard and generally underwhelming performance in terms of battery life, gaming (compared to my previous, cheaper laptop) and the touch pad. On the plus side, it is pretty light and has a great screen…

    • +1

How could it have a great screen if it also has screen bleed?

      • +1

Good point. I should say the screen is great when you can't notice the bleed…otherwise? Not so much.

    • Lenovo are always terrible at screens.

  • If you pay the extra $150 for an SSD do you also get the old HDD as you have already paid for it in the original price?

  • Is it difficult to replace the HDD with an SSD? Will it ruin warranty if we replace it?

    • Dunno about difficulty, but it wouldn't ruin warranty.

    • +2

It's not really difficult but as I mentioned in my post a few up from here, the way the HDD connects to the motherboard is not like anything else I've encountered - instead of the SATA connectors being physically attached to the motherboard, they're on a metallic thing that covers the hard drive with a ribbon running to the motherboard. here's a pic: https://scontent.fmel2-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t35.0-12/14808943_1…

the black plastic thing is supposed to sit on top of the blue part of that ribbon connector - when I removed the HDD to install the SSD, the black plastic thing came out and would not go back in.

I'll find out next week how much it's going to hurt to get that 1cm x 1mm piece of black plastic replaced.

      • If the black plastic thing was not part of any circuit then couldn't you have just taped it down? Lol

        • +1

Yes, I could have, but laptops are notorious for getting hot - then the tape might have melted onto the motherboard and caused some kind of other problem which would be denied by warranty in the future.

      • You'd be up for a new motherboard (2-300 dollars)

The way the cable is run, it's basically impossible to come out but I would tape it (won't affect cooling, there's tape over most long runs anyway)

        • I'll let you know what the cost is then.

        • Just received the laptop back today.

They replaced the motherboard for nothing, even though I requested they quote for me to pay for it since I broke it.

      • It's called a ZIF connector (zero insertion force).

You might be able to angle the retaining lever back into the sockets (unless the lugs have been snapped off)

        • Cool, thanks for telling me. Fingers crossed it doesn't cost too much to replace the retaining lever.

Tightarse, I don't want to be difficult but can we get a deal on the yoga book? I want the gadget but so much more expensive then US Price. Especially windows version.

    Thanks buddy.

P.s. I know it isn't officially available yet.

Next to dishwashing tablets Lenovo laptops would have to be a permanent fixture on this site.

    • +1

I keep the dishwashing tablets under the sink, not next to my laptop.

  • Hi TA, I don't really need an i7 or a discrete GPU…just wish there was a deal for the i3 or i5 version E470 for around $500…

    • +1

The i5 was for $599 nearly 2 weeks ago. You honestly cannot expect the i5 to be lower than that.

    • E550 w/ i3-5005 is $499 right now.

  • Want one with a bigger screen and Numpad, is this any good? http://www.dell.com/au/p/inspiron-15-5567-laptop/pd?oc=smz51…

  • Does Referrer mean tightass is making money off this deal?

Nice price though, put in a SSD and more ram and good to go.

    • Referrer usually means there is some form of commission agreement between both parties.

Does Referrer mean tightass is making money off this deal

He probably gets commission as part of his package with cashrewards

    • +10

Let me clear this up for you, KaTst3R, and easternculture.

The reason I come up as a Referrer is simply because I've linked to Cashrewards in the OP. I'm employed by Cashrewards on a full time basis. I don't work on any commissions, and I certainly don't get kickbacks from any merchants. This has been done to death across plenty of my deals. Any issues, please report them to the moderators.

      • Thanks for clearing that up tightass! I didn't see a referral link so that's why I asked.

        • The wording can be confusing, however if you highlight the grey referrer box it will display 'Posted by a referrer or third party website operator'.

The cashrewards.com.au link triggers the 'referrer' tag for posting a third party website the OP is associated with. Another example of this on the front page atm, fashionlane.

Guidelines for third party website operators are here. It explains everything in more detail and how the posting limits work.

        • @hamza23: Ah I thought it meant something like commission junction (no idea if they still operate)

        • @fruit:

Ah yeah affiliate websites, we don't allow direct affiliate links on OzBargain at all. Referral or third party links only (in certain circumstances).

      • oh ok TA. Referrer tag usually means you get some kind of benefit from the deal.

Maybe mods should change it into another tag to avoid confusion

  • What's the difference between:

    8GB(4+4) DDR4 2400MHz SODIMM

    and

    8GB DDR4 2400MHz SODIMM

Is the second one with one (1) x SODIMM (8+0) compared to (4+4)? Why would you pick 4+4?

    • 2x4gb vs 1x8gb

    • Dual channels, so faster.

You'd pick 1x8 if you were going to buy another 8gb stick.

  • What do you guys think about this vs the E570 deal posted the other day.

  • Hi, Im wondering if this laptop is touchscreen because I can't see it anywhere on the website. unless (multitouch) means touchscreen. sorry im not so good with laptops. thanks

    • +1

      not touchscreen

  • The look is so budgety. It looks like a Dell Inspiron, but is more expensive.

Does Lenovo make a premium range that can rival the XPS?

    • +1

      Yeah, the X carbon series.

There's also the Y series that is light and pretty powerful. Cheap too. The y710s is great at $1200, and the 710s plus is coming soon to update that ddr4 ram and finger print sensor.

  • +1

Got my Inspiron 7000 FHD I7 4720HQ with 850m 2 years ago for $750 new from dell.

Havent seen a better deal than that yet!

  • How long will this take to deliver?

  • I'd jump right on this. Purchased the E460 at the beginning of the year for about $1100 maxed out. Brilliant little device for uni or business! This is an even better deal for a more powerful machine!

    • -1

little device? 1.9kg? compared to what? a brick?

      • Maybe the thinkpad 13 or asus ux30* is more suited to you. They're lighter but more expensive.

        there's a thinkpad 13 with i5-6200 / 4gb / 256gb / fhd for $949 right now. I think that's a pretty good price for the weight.

        • Yes, I have a TP 13 … quite good for the price.

  • These are great deals, but how many people are actually buying one of these?

    • Majority of people are usually guests to the site and a lot of them would be buying it. I've had deals with 100 votes, 4000+ clicks and 1000 sales.

  • I was thinking about buying this , but keeping in view the hardware build quality issues I will rather wait for macbook air and pay additional $500 for it

  • Anyone know how this would go running Battlefield One?

  • Any chance for deals on T or X series?

  • Anyone could check if this Thinkpad E470 has m.2 ssd slot?

    • It does not.
