Hey TA, just checking that these laptops still come with 2 Years Australian warranty due to the value being >$1000?

    • Hi yojabbajabba,
You mean the laptops bought from Lenovo website http://www3.lenovo.com/au/en will have 2 year warranty in Australia, even their warranty is only 1 year according to Lenovo website? Is it correct :D?

  • +5

Comparing to the T460 deal from yesterday, T460S is a good buy

    • For a similar sized package that's almost 0.5kg lighter. It's poor-man's X1 Carbon with 14" FHD at 1.36kg.
    • Magnesium all around + carbon fibre lid (instead of magnesium rollcage)
    • 256GB SSD vs 128GB in T460.
    • Only $80 more expensive.
    • However only one DIMM slot and no extended battery option
    • Not sure why they are not future proofing with a USB-C port , if this was included , it would have been a killer business laptop offering

      • +2

Not even the latest gen of X1 Carbon has USB Type C. I think the only ThinkPad that has USB C at the moment is ThinkPad 13. Hopefully the new T/X series with kaby lake would have USB C or Thunderbolt 2.

        • Yeah I will hold out until the USB C offering is on board , I'm just hoping there will be a universal GPU dock that connects to any USB-C in the future for a makeshift gaming session away from my PS4 :)

      • USB-C is just the plug type. You can get adapter cable for it. What's important is it's USB 3.0 (SS).

        • Not really mate , can you charge the laptop using usb-A , can you connect a monitor using usb-A and adaptor setup , could you connect a gpu dock etc … USB c with Thunderbolt is fat superior and future proof

    • Notebookcheck.net rates the T460s very high - has lead the top ten in "Premium Office / Business Notebooks" for a while.

      http://www.notebookcheck.net/Notebookcheck-s-Top-10-Premium-…

    • here's a write up comparing the two:

      https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/4d31u2/t460_vs_t4…

he ends up recommending the t460. I'm torn :/ can anyone comment on the feel of the t460s keyboard?

    • If I may add, cheapest I've seen it too. Purchased mine for ~ $1400 with only 4gb RAM and 125GB SSD. It was even on the education discount! What a difference 3 months makes!

  • Do they ever discount 15" Thinkpads?

  • Impressed by the T460s and X260 deals. I like that 4G is now being offered inbuilt. Before you get any ideas, I don't think the wwan slot supports being used for an nvme ssd.

Make sure you update BIOS on both of these models, there's a known bug in early versions of BIOS that causes the internal battery to drain in preference to the external.

  • Have the X1 Yoga, really impressed with it. Running the OLED model though.

    • +1

how do you get the oled version in OZ though?

      • +1

        Contacted Lenovo directly.

        • Do you know how much extra the OLED option was?

        • +2

          @Jarr0d:

          An extra 500, unfortunately =/

        • @Wally Simmonds: hmm, probably worth it i think. I was just told a 6-8week wait to get one…

        • @Jarr0d:

I didn't see the other models screens, but very impressed with OLED. The rest of the laptop is pretty good too, and imo better than the 2014 XPS (with the Sharp Igzo screen) it replaced.

  • so the SSD in the T460s is M.2, not SATA?

    • for some reason i can't edit my post, but it seems that the t460s is fully NVMe compatible

  • Hey TA, Any upcoming deals on Lenovo Desktops?

  • -2

    big price,cheap brand, maybe not

  • Eyeing the T460s. Not sure if it is a Good deal.
I want it, but don't need it.

Hey guys, I'm looking for a cheap laptop for web surfing, downloading, streaming to chrome cast.

I know the E450 is pretty low spec, but will it do the job without any trouble and is it decent for its price point?

Would you also spend $50 more to upgrade to 8GB RAM?

    Thanks.

    • yeah thoughts on this E450 too? Is it the best value sub $500 laptop?

Would you also spend $50 more to upgrade to 8GB RAM?

nah, you can buy a single 8gb ddr3l DIMM at other shops for around $50. That way you get to keep the 4GB as well and have 12GB all up (or sell the 4gb and get another 8gb for dual channel 16gb - not that it would make much difference on this laptop anyway)

    • I reckon $399 for a 14inch ThinkPad is very good price and its "low" spec is more than capable enough for the applications you mentioned. I have been using a Atom-based laptop when travelling and that is good enough for web surfing and video playback. So i3 with 4GB RAM will be fine. I would just upgrade the HDD to a SSD.

  • Wouldn't touch the T460s.

    From notebookcheck

"The display backlight flickers at 220 Hz (Likely utilizing PWM) Flickering detected at a brightness setting of 90 % and below. There should be no flickering or PWM above this brightness setting.

The frequency of 220 Hz is relatively low, so sensitive users will likely notice flickering and experience eyestrain at the stated brightness setting and below."

    • No PWM on the i5, it's just on the i7. The trouble is that they use different panel brands so it's a lottery which one you get.

  • damn no 3 year warranty option

    • +1

Which model? T460s and t560 have it after you add it to the cart.

      • thanks for that, didn't see that part.
        bought the X1 Yoga

  • +1

Anyone considering Yoga 260/460 there is a major Hardware flaw. If you drain the battery and plug in the computer it will lag so much that it becomes unusable. When the computer battery charges over 30% then the issue goes away and the computer starts working normally.

Before someone suggests that its a settings issue I have checked everything and spent hours with lenovo on the phone. The reason it is a hardware issue is because if you run diagnostics when the lag starts (sub 30% battery level and pluged in) it shows motherboard failure.
You can read more about this on this post that I found on Lenovos website.

    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga…

    • +1

If you are sure it is a hardware issue could you update the forum thread you mentioned with that info? I am following this issue and was looking forward to a driver update. If it is indeed a hardware issue then this would be valuable info for other owners.

      • Feel free to post on the Lenovo fourm. I am not a member and since I am returning my computer I don't want to become one. You can try it on your computer too.

        Here are my diagnostics results.

Battery below 30% pluged in- MB Failure
Battery below 30% unpluged - All good
Battery above 30% pluged in- All good
Battery above 30% unpluged - All good

You should do it on support.lenovo.com so you can take a screenshot and email lenovo the results. They will change your motherboard but it won't go away. Finally they will refund you.

I purchased onsite warranty with my computer and have had 2 MB replacements.

Here is a temporary fix posted by a Yoga 14 owner that has the same issue.
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iTk-vRyLGY

Anyone knows if Yoga X1 has this issue? I might get that instead or XPS 13 as suggested on youtube video above.

        • Thanks for the info. Will do.

  • 45W and 65W power adapters are the same price, for the T460s.

65W should be better right? Why would anyone take the 45W?

    • +2

Because it's smaller in size, easier for travellers. 65W would be mandatory for models with dedicated graphics, but optional for integrated ones.

      • Ah I see, thanks for the answer!

Also was wondering, does anyone know how long shipping takes? It says "Ships within 1-2 weeks", but does that refer to the total shipping time (time til arrival), or just time it takes to prepare for shipping (i.e. dispatch time)?
I believe Lenovo don't include the tax invoice with the laptop itself - does it usually arrive much later? (going overseas at the end of November, so need to make sure it all arrives before then)

        • +2

Dispatched in 1-2 weeks. The whole delivery process is rather a pain with Lenovo. Slow and unpredictable.

        • Ah, I see, thanks!

Yeah, looks like their guide says something similar: http://www3.lenovo.com/au/en/delivery/

They claim ~1 week delivery time, so around 2-3 weeks total.

  • Just wondering how will be the E560 with FHD screen and 8gb ram for $819?

  • +2

I was a big fan of the ThinkPads, but their discounted/clearance prices are not what they used to be. I currently use an X230i which I picked up from Lenovo around $600 almost 2 years ago. I've moved over to Asus Refurbs - purchased a $639 model below for the wife and have been very happy with it - only issue was touchscreen not operating after resume from sleep (well documented).

Lack of touchscreen on this X1 Carbon is a deal breaker.

X1 Yoga is tempting, but the Asus refurbs from Centralfield are much more appealing, it's hard to justify the additional cost:

Asus UX305CA-DQ060T $639 (out of stock but similar models next week)

    • Asus looks enticing over the E series.
Wondering about the Black Friday sales vs these deals.
I can't find any real convincing information yay or no for mail redirection services. They all seem seriously expensive and only semi reliable to make it feasible to buy a laptop in the sales in the US.

    • Back in the X230 days AUD was much stronger

    • How about the T460s that people have mentioned above? It seems to have a touchscreen. The new product can't compete on price alone against the refurbs mentioned though.

      • Touch is +$150 so $1429, not bad.

    • Thanks for the info about Asus refurbs. I'm quite interested in the UX303UB-C4032T - do you happen to know if I'd be able to upgrade the SSD from the stock one to my current SATA Samsung 840 PRO 512gb?

      • +1

Not sure but they do have higher res 512GB version arriving next week:

For QHD, we will have ASUS ZenBook UX305UA-FB021T i7 /8G/512 G SSD $1199.

        • Do you work there, or are you a stalker? Lol

        • @jassep: Neither, a happy owner of a refurbished. I emailed them a few days ago and they gave a heads up on models arriving next week.

        • @fatty: awesome. I shall keep an eye on the site. Cheers!

Went to order the E450 and it shows as $599 instead of the $399.

Tried adding the code DEALS but still doesn't work.

    Any ideas?

Edit: I have since spoken with Lenovo. Although the E450 is still available, they have ended the sale early on that model.

  • Same here, the E450 is now $599. I chatted with their staff and they wouldn't offer any discount. False advertising as their Cyber Sales doesn't end until 9pm 21/10!!!

    • Yeah I was told they were sold out of that model and I could only order the model on the website at $599.

Thinking it might have been a better laptop, I asked what the difference was. They eventually said it was exactly the same but they were no longer honouring the discounted price.

  • Baulked on the E450 and am regretting it, although Lenovo did only have it on sale for 1 day - seems like there is a bunch of people in the market for a sub $500 laptop, keep the deals flowing!
