The Intel Core i7-8550U is a mobile processor with 4 cores, launched in August 2017.

I don't think this CPU is good enough to run Windows 11

Lol it works well tbh for basic shit.

Yeah, it's above the minimum requirements, and win11 is mostly more efficient than 10 in my corporate deployment experience.

  • Picture shows backlit keyboard but no mention in specs, please confirm?

    • +1

Hi, can confirm it has backlit keyboard.

    8+ years old… closer to 199$, maybe 249$ higher grading 🤔

    • Good call - $249 I'd pull the trigger.

@Skymstr - Can you do any better?

Hi need to pass this to may boss with an exmple of similar laptop with similar condition, specs and stock. Can you please help me with that.

        • +1

Yep 299 in 2024… this is 2025… you can keep holding them till 2026 then sell at 200 or sell now 249 hehe

    • +1

Crazy ain't it. Places get them for free, give them a wipe down and then charge a bundle for them.

      • Where can i get a freebie?

        • +2

Be a computer recycling company - we have to actually pay them to take the junk away.

    Does Toshiba even exist anymore?

    • +1

their business crumbled due to accounting scandal
      https://www.bbc.com/news/business-67757333

    • they sold the laptop business AFAIK

      • +1

Yes, Toshiba laptops are currently marketed as Dynabook (the name they used in Japan since 1989) & now owned by Sharp Corporation:
        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynabook_Inc.

"dynabook, is a Japanese personal computer manufacturer based in Kōtō, Tokyo, owned by Sharp Corporation; it was previously part of, and branded overseas as, Toshiba, until 2018. The Dynabook name had already been used by Toshiba in the Japanese market since 1989 for laptop products."

As per the last thread, I would consider white spots on the screen as damage.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/897762

The hydrogel/matte coating gets separated from the digitizer screen because the keypad creates friction with it when the cover is closed. Sure, you can't physically feel the separation when you run your finger over it and it becomes almost invisible at night, but during the day when sunlight shines on it the white spots greatly impacts screen visibility.

  • Too much for 8th gen when 11th gen laptops have been similar prices many times in the past. Plus seems like their grading is really bad based off of this previous post https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/897762

Thanks for your feedback. If you are making a generic statement based on feedback from just one customer, dont you think its a bit unfair?

      • Even ignoring the condition, don't you think $299 for an 8550u laptop is too much in 2025?

  • Sorry cant make a statement about that as I dont set the price. To pass it to my boss, I need an example of similar/better laptop with similar condition, specs and stock. Can you please help me with that and I hope he considers.

  • Meh!
This was pretty good according to ppl

Gen 11 processor, like new really

    • -1

Thanks for that? How can this be compareable when the listed price at the moment is $429? The condition also clearly says there may be screen scratches. Are you ok with that?

      • Well, it started at $399 and you could apply OFF15/OFF20 to it. After that, there was a day where Shopback gave 12% cb on ebay orders which would bring the total down to under $300 for an 11th gen i5 which can utilise the new Iris XE graphics.
